Was it a terrible place to live, or difficulties making ends meet? 1974 was the 3 day week electricity rationing in the midst of difficult and turbulent times for many people

I think the image of Fawdon Lane 1972 starting at 0:54 is actually Kingston Park Road, with the houses in the top left that have white roof edging lining up with the same buildings today on the junction of Windsor Way. Nothing quite lines up for Fawdon Lane taking into account the curvature of the road and the lack of pre existing buildings especially on the right hand side of the road. I think this might be backed up by the image at 1:05 which shows a detached single house and I can't find anything similar off the Lane where pretty much all the single buildings are bungalows.

I knew couple people who where in my class at kenton comprehensive school in the early 60s who lived at Dorington Road flats fadden,a lot of kids from kenton where scared to go near that place

I used to go to Kenton school but1968-75 .I had a school friend who lived in Fawdon .I really wish I could remember where & wondering what happened to her

A shame the tower block isn't featured in this as you could see it for miles around. Always looked run down even when quite new.

Yes, I've noticed local tower blocks don't often get included in photos from this era, even though they were such a new and 'modern' concept in housing. Apart from Cruddas Park, where the collection of tower blocks were photographed as it was all underway

Were you a family all in one flat? I saw a programme from the 60s where a mother in Scotswood was relocated to a flat with her very young children. She talked about how they were several floors up in the tower block and the children were too young to go out into the world alone, so they were all cooped up in the flat all day.

I lived in Witton Court, Dorrington Road, Fawdon 2017-2020. Loathed it. Area is charva central. I don't drive and would walk to Fawdon Metro. There were always gangs of feral charva kids hanging around the streets, shops and the Metro station. An awful place to live.

That's really sad. The metro and shops should make it a good place to live, but they'll disappear if residents can't feel safe walking the local streets.
