You can tell that we were blown away at BabyMetal - Gimme Chocolate. The ex-record producer guy pointed out so perfectly that there was like a pop chorus in the speed metal sound. When he said that, I immediately could see that. I would have never caught that by myself. It takes someone who knows music production to see that.
Total genius in the making of this band. The entire sound is so unique on its own. There is nothing like it that I have ever heard. So cool!
Sorry for the video having bars. I uploaded this and was blocked different 5 times over the course of several months. I tried everything to dispute every single one and finally after placing a bar on the video they allowed it. The music is really what we are reacting too.

As the rest of the music industry has drowning in trash for the last 20 years Babymetal is a breath of fresh air wrapped in metal. FYI the fans of Babymetal are known as The One and no we are not cult.......or are we?

At the time this was recorded, the lead singer was 16, the other two girls 14. This is the song that put Babymetal on the map back in 2014 and it is an iconic Babymetal song. However, it barely scratches the surface of all that Babymetal is and is not really a good representation of what they are, especially at this point in their careers. This is the song that introduces the WTF factor but the further you dig, you find there really is something significantly more there. At it's foundation is that JPop/Metal fusion but the execution of it differs drastically from song to song. There are no two songs that sound the same. You'll find Nu-Metal (Onedari Daisakusen ), Prog-Metal (Tales of the Destinies), Death-metal (Sis-Anger), Djent (Karate).... mixed in crazy Latin influences (Night Night Burn - think Miami Sound Machine as a metal band), EDM influences (Ilne), Near Eastern influences (Shanti Shanti Shanti), Disco Metal (Da Da Dance), ballads (No Rain No Rainbow), 80s power ballads (The One - a tribute to their fans), power metal (Road of Resistance), Rap Metal (BxMxC), a heavy metal waltz (Rondo of Nightmare).... then songs that even us old timer classic rock guys will love (Shine). And even with that list, we are not scratching the surface. There are three albums over 10 years of songs, one of them a double album, each different than the next. Your next view should be "Road of Resistance - Live in Japan".

Incorrect. The audio track for this was recorded back in 2010. Even if the video part was recorded in 2014. Su was 12, but Moa and Yui were 10 at the time of audio recording.

Great first reaction and welcome to the BABYMETAL Galaxy. I'm older than both of you and I blast this out from my sports car all the time. So their audience ... anybody and everybody. At their concerts you will see young girls dressed as the girls rocking out with their parents, teenagers, pop fans, tattooed metalheads in their battle jackets, old rockers who had not found much they liked since their favourite bands of the 70s and 80s - and anybody else you can think of .... and they will all be rocking out shoulder to shoulder having the time of their lives. Their name 'BABYMETAL' is not about their age (although when they started in 2010 they were aged 12 and 11 so it probably did play a part too). The name was chosen for two reasons: - to symbolize that they gave birth to a new genre of metal music (kawaii metal, kawaii meaning 'cute' as in adorable, not sexy). It is a fusion of metal with JPop aesthetics - because the writing (and pronunciation) in Japanese is nearly identical to the writing of "heavy metal" (and they love a pun): BABYMETAL = ベビメタル (be-bi-me-ta-ru) heavy metal = ヘビメタル (he-bi-me-ta-ru) 'Gimme Chocolate' is not a song I would normally recommend to anybody for their first experience - well, maybe a real live version with the Kami Band playing, just not the official video which has the studio audio dubbed over the footage from the live performance. This was the video that went viral and got them noticed, but a lot of that was to do with the "WTF" reactions it gets from most people. With 'Gimme Chocolate' it can go either way - some people absolutely love the contrast or clash of styles straight away, for many metalheads it is just too much and they switch off as soon as Yui and Moa come in with their "atatatatatatatata dokyun" and sadly too many just never get beyond that. This is one song where the different styles are (deliberately I think) not blended seamlessly, so it goes very noticeably from one to the other and back They have about 50 songs now and every one of them is different. Some are very metal, others (like 'Gimme Chocolate') lean more towards their pop roots and they do everything in between. They have songs in virtually every metal genre (thrash, djent, black, death, power, speed, folk, prog etc) but they will blend in other musical styles and genres with the metal (not just pop, you will find ska, reggae, Bollywood, Latin, rap, hip hop and so many more) often when you least expect it - and they make it work. BABYMETAL are Su-metal (now 24, this video was filmed at a concert the day after her 16th birthday in December 2013) and Moametal (she was 23 on July 4th, she was 14 in this video) - the third original member, Yuimetal who also just turned 23, sadly left the band in October 2018 having been absent from the stage for the previous 12 months. She had ongoing (and undisclosed) health issues and had not fully recovered so was still unable to perform, so she announced she would be leaving the band and hoped to follow her own long held dreams. From the start of the 2019 tour through 2021 Su and Moa, who had chosen to continue as a duo after Yui left, were supported by three dancers (the Avengers Kano, Riho and Momoko) who took turns to dance in the third spot (no vocals). BABYMETAL started in 2010 as a sub-unit of a school themed J-Pop Idol group called Sakura Gakuin. As members of that group they would sing songs and dance, the sub-units would have their own themed songs (tennis, cooking, science etc). BABYMETAL were the heavy music club. This was the pet project of just one man, their producer Kei Kobayashi or 'Kobametal', a lifelong metalhead, based entirely around the vocal talents of Suzuka Nakamoto or Su-metal the lead singer. He had seen her a year or two before singing with her previous J-Pop trio and was so impressed with her unusually loud (for a JPop singer) singing style and stage presence. He saw her potential to front a metal/pop fusion band. He had his chance to work with her when Sakura Gakuin was formed and he started the Heavy Music Club with Suzuka as lead vocals and, thinking he might also add another thing not usually seen in metal - choreographed dance, he added her two young friends (also very talented performers) Yui Mizuno and Moa Kikuchi supporting her as "scream and dance" - more accurately backing vocals and in charge of hyping the audience with their choreo and leading chants etc . The heavy music club, unlike the more commercially viable sub-units, had to be self-funding (they even borrowed clothes to make their costumes for their first shows with the Idol group - the other sub-units had theirs paid for) as no agency in Japan in 2010 would have invested in metal as there was virtually no market for it at that time, but under the umbrella of the Idol group there was no risk to them if it didn't take off or just failed. So they sang their songs and danced to a backing track with pre-recorded instrumentals and, against everybody's expectations, BABYMETAL started to gain their own small following. In 2013 Su would be 15 and would graduate from the Idol group (having the school theme it was for girls aged 10 to 15), but it was decided that BABYMETAL should be her (also Yui's and Moa's) vehicle as they furthered their careers as vocalists and dancers and should separate from the Idol group to go with Su as an independent band in their own right. In anticipation of the separation a little more budget was made available. They started to play their own solo shows starting off in warehouses and tiny venues with a capacity of 150-250 people, a shopping mall and they played the food hall at a metal festival. The live band (the Kami Band - some of Japan's very best session musicians) was also introduced and phased in gradually from October 2012 playing at a couple of festivals and the encores in a few shows. They became the full time backing band early in 2014. If you see musicians in a video wearing skeleton suits (as they were in this one) they were not a real band and were miming the instruments to a backing track - they were called 'Babybones' and were there for show in the early days (no pretence was made otherwise, everybody knew what they were doing). The Kami Band are the ones in traditional white burial robes and white corpse face paint (more recently in black robes and since 2019 wearing masks) In December 2013 Su-metal turned 16 and at the show celebrating her birthday (Legend 1997 where the 'Gimme Chocolate' video was filmed) the final step was taken in the transformation of BABYMETAL from sub-unit of the Idol group to independent band and the Kami Band became their full time support in all live shows early in 2014. They have been with them ever since. For the 2019 and 2020 US and European tours the Kami Band of the west (American musicians from Galactic Empire on guitars and bass, Anthony Barone once of Shadow of Intent on drums) were introduced. BABYMETAL have gone on to become one of the very best live bands on the planet (and have won international awards to prove that is not just my opinion). Their big arena shows are spectacular, but they put on great shows every time, even in smaller venues and festivals as they tour the world where they can't always have all the special effects and flames etc too. The official videos are very good, but do tend to get blocked, so as BABYMETAL are first and foremost a live performance act - that is where you will see and hear them at their best every time - I would recommend live performances, but try to avoid fan made compilations for your first time seeing a new song if possible unless there is no better alternative - there are some good ones, there are some that have been put together very poorly and it would be a shame to have your first time with a song spoiled by poor editing - once you know a song and have seen a full performance those compilations are not an issue (so much).

Babymetal is the gateway drug to metal music.... Even if you don't like metal at first, after a few listen of their VERY wide range of metal fusion music, you will find something you'd like. Their early stuff like Gimme Chocolate, Doki Doki morning, iine, etc have a strong jpop sound, because that's what the girls were more comfortable with, but as they explored other metal genres, and listend to other groups, you would notice a gradual maturing into more full on metal/rock sounds....You want trap metal? Try Bxmxc, latin metal Night Night Burn, dubstep metal Uki Uki midnight, rock metal ballads that can bring out the onion ninjas? Akatsuki Unfinished, No Rain No Rainbow.... and the list goes on for over 50songs and 10yrs of performances. Have fun exploring the metal galaxy that is babymetal! 🤘🦊🤘

Babymetal is a performance band. their live shows are better than the studio versions. cant wait to see more reactions from you.

Welcome to the Foxhole and BabyMetal Galaxy 🦊🤘 Good to see you already know something about the girls and collab with BMTH - Kingslayer song. Always glad to have knowledge people on this scene. Have fun and enjoy your ride because BM journey is just getting started, you even didn't even heard their live sound yet with the Kami Band. 🔥 Dance choreography and metal had never been seen before and they somehow managed to make it works creating their unique own genre called kawaii-metal, mixing Jpop and heavy metal along with many more sub genres and rhythms, you'll have so much fun going through this journey. However this isn't actually live version, is studio album version over a live performance which was partially live only on the vocals and choreography with backing track sound. They have their own band called Kami Band introduced later on that same show and after that Kami Band become regular at live performance. BabyMetal is a Japanese metal dance unit created in 2010 under another Jpop/Jrock group called Sakura Gakuin, they had 11 and 12 years old and become independent after 2013, they created their own genre called kawaii-metal, mixing Jpop with metal sound and different subgenres along with many more rhythms, They are: *SuMetal* (lead vocals). *MoaMetal* (scream and dance) *YuiMetal* (scream and dance, former member since 2018) This was in December 2013 at SuMetal 16th Birthday, the other girls had 14 yo and there was a big party you have seen nothing yet, wait for _"Babymetal Death"_ You have songs like _Catch Me If You Can_ live at Budokan 2014 (you got a safe to react version with subtitles at GuilhermeCait channel) or _Headbangeeeeerrrrr!!!!!_ live at this same live performance Legend 1997 in Makuhari Messe Japan when SuMetal is celebrating her birthday becoming a metal goddess queen and leaving her idol jpop form (you can find one at Gans Tomas channel). You have more than 50 songs and still more to come. Amuse their label is very hard to deal so if you want to avoid copyright blocked you have *Babymetal Reactor Resource* channel you'll get full original clips of their best live performance with watermarked logo safe to react, look for "Future Plans" vid, follow instructions and you'll get all of them, upload the one with the logo for us and you can watch without it, don't worry for us we already saw all of them. As many BM fans we always recommend try to dodge live compilations for many reasons and only use those if there's no any other chance. Hope you coming back with more BM songs. See you! 🦊🤘

Now you have got a very small glimpse of what BABYMETAL can do. Sadly, the audio of this video just is the CD track dubbed over a live performance to release it as an MV. But believe it or not, they are one of the best live acts out there. Half a year ago you already did a reaction to their collaboration with Bring Me the Horizon, by the way. But since you don't seem to know too much about them, let me give you a very brief introduction: BABYMETAL is around since 2010 when the three girls were 11 and 12 years old. They originally were part of the school-themed idol-project Sakura Gakuin (Cherry Blossom Academy) but parted from SG in 2013 to become an independent act. Back then the band mainly consisted of three girls: Suzuka Nakamoto (aka. SU-METAL, lead vocals), Yui Mizuno (aka. YUIMETAL, backing vocals and dance), and Moa Kikuchi (aka. MOAMETAL, backing vocals and dance) complemented by a bunch of stellar musicians called Kami-Band (Band of Gods) at their live performances. They already have three studio albums (and loads of live CDs/DVDs/BRs too) out: "BABYMETAL", rel. 2014 (studio album) "Metal Resistance", rel. 2016 (studio album) "Metal Galaxy", rel. 2019 (studio album) BABYMETAL also has several live recorded shows out on DVD/Blu-Ray which is a good thing because, believe it or not, they are one of the best live bands out there (which earned them many best-live-act-awards). They also never get boring because of their diversity in music styles. Regardless they always manage to stay recognizable. Unfortunately, Mikio Fujioka (their lead guitarist) died from an accident in January 2018 and Yui Mizuno left BABYMETAL in fall 2018 because of health reasons. But despite all that, the band is going strong and achieved, as the first Asian act ever, a number one notation on the billboard rock charts with their 2019 released album "Metal Galaxy". If you're willing to continue this journey, my recommendations for the start would be: *"Ijime, Dame, Zettai"* live at Sonisphere Festival 2014 in the UK kzfaq.info/get/bejne/iNVdksaTy8rWiXk.html *"Karate"* live at Download Festival 2016 in the UK kzfaq.info/get/bejne/p752bJeDrL-pnas.html *"Akatsuki"* live at Nippon Budokan in 2014 kzfaq.info/get/bejne/nZhjapV0mraufIE.html *"Rondo of Nightmare"* live at Nippon Budokan in 2014 kzfaq.info/get/bejne/br1yd8x9srS-k3k.html *"Syncopation"* live video compilation kzfaq.info/get/bejne/q8BhZK2Gv7OchmQ.html *"Road of Resistance"* live at Saitama Super Arena in 2015 kzfaq.info/get/bejne/sLp1jLh3zLLalY0.html *"Megitsune"* live at Makuhari Messe in 2013 kzfaq.info/get/bejne/n8WPrLuYl7zOZ4U.html *"Shanti Shanti Shanti"* live at Glastonbury Festival 2019 in the UK kzfaq.info/get/bejne/rZtxn6iS28rNoHU.html *"No Rain No Rainbow"* live at Hiroshima Green Arena in 2017 kzfaq.info/get/bejne/pqqXpNJny8nQmY0.html *"Headbangeeeeerrrrr!!!!!"* live at Nippon Budokan in 2014 kzfaq.info/get/bejne/f5imqK6A0sqVmqc.html *"BxMxC"* live in Bruxelles in 2020 (fancam) kzfaq.info/get/bejne/eNB-e6SLpqe1pZs.html

I have been WAITING for you to do an actual Babymetal reaction every since Kingslayer. I was also very nervous as to what your reaction will be. I really wanted you guys to like them. And as soon as the girls started singing, 10 seconds in, I knew you were hooked. Welcome to Babymetal. Just to let you know, I was not originally a heavy metal fan, but ever since discovering Babymetal, I've come to appreciate the genre and skills needed to perform a heavy metal song. So you mentioned what audience is this targeted for? I am coming from the pop side, and exposed to heavy metal. I have been getting bored with pop music for the past 10 or so years as the genre started to become stagnant and boring. Then Babymetal entered my life. They are my all time favorite band. I listen to them every day. I love their energy, the positive and encouraging lyrics, and their performances. And my adoration for the girls grew exponentially after delving deeper into the 'foxhole' and learned about their personalities. They are super humble, and the sisterly bond between the three transcends ego, personal ambition and gain. When I listen to their music or watch their performance videos, a smile ALWAYS comes to my face. During these difficult times for the past 2-3 years, Babymetal has helped keep my spirits up. Babymetal saved me from going crazy from being stuck at home for these past few years. Well done. And I hope your friend comes back to do more reactions with you from a producer's pov.

@@oldguyreactions I also forgot to mention that I don't understand Japanese at all. As Su-metal says, "Don't think, just feel." That's how Babymetal is. Who needs lyrics when the emotion in her singing and the great unique choreo nearly speaks for itself. And the cool thing is that the choreo is almost NEVER repeated in other songs. So every song is a treat in vocals, music, style, and choreo. Thanks for doing this reaction. Have a nice day!

@@oldguyreactions there is so much great Japanese metal. Babymetal is just the tip of the iceberg. They started in 2010. You're seeing great all female Japanese metal bands coming out now that were influenced by Babymetal like Nemophila and Hanabie. You should react to 'We Love Sweets' by Hanabie. I assume it's an homage to Gimme Chocolate. kzfaq.info/get/bejne/fZdorNyntanNhIE.html

@@oldguyreactions Here are some fun facts about this song and the group 1. Their hit song Gimme Chocolate was named one of the most important metal songs of the last 10 years 2. Dragon Force performed Gimme Chocolate with BabyMetal 3. The Red Hot Chili Pepper performed Gimme Chocolate with them. 4. They are buds with Metallica and Slipknot 5. They had a cameo in Corey Taylor's video 6. They performed Pain Killer and Breaking the Law with Rob Halford of Judas Priest 7. They are the only Asian group to ever hit #1 on Billboards Top Rock chart. 8. BabyMetal and Black Pink are the only albums by girl groups in history to enter the Top 10 of Billboard’s World Albums Year End Chart. 9. In a recent interview Corey Taylor of Slipknot was asked who he listened to at home and he said "BabyMetal" 10. In 2015 Vogue Magazine Japan named them Women of The Year. 11. When Metallica saw them for the first time they said they were astonished by their awesomeness.

First off nice reaction and thank you for returning to BM. I watched your first reaction with another gentleman over a year ago (Not Kingslayer), so no harm no foul in your memory. I don’t recall which song you previously reacted to, but it was one of their more poppy tracks like this. I even subscribed to your channel in hopes of more BM reactions. At the time you/he didn’t appear as open to the concept, so I left a number of suggestions to their heavier music. It is very common for listeners to be shocked at the first 1-3 songs, but they do suck you down the Fox Hole if you keep it up. Babymetal is the originator of Kawaii (cute) Metal. They are basically a fusion group of Metal and almost every other genre. It is extremely difficult to identify their sound by a single song. Their diversity is so wide ranging it simply beckons the listener to try another. They absolutely started 11+ years ago by mixing Jpop and Metal, but in more recent years combine: Jpop, Hiphop, Ska, Latin/Flamingo, Viking, Celtic/Eastern European, Indian, EDM and much more with all the sub-genres of Metal. I’m not trying to provide a resume, but rather entice you into more reactions. So here are just a few accolades. Nominated for over 40 International and National music awards, winning over 30 times. First Asian group (male, or female from any Asian country) to top the US Billboards Rock Album Chart. Youngest female fronted band (at the time) to headline the world famous Budokan Arena in Tokyo. The average age of the girls was around 14.3-14.6 years old. First Japanese group (perhaps women) to headline the Wembley arena. Their fan base numbers in the many millions of both men and women, ages 8 to 80. They been an opening act for Metallica, Red Hot Chili Peppers, Lady Gaga, Bring Me The Horizon (who also opened for BM). They performed with front man, Rob Halford of Judas Priest at the 2016 Alternative Press Music Awards. They played festivals with Slipknot, Guns & Roses, Korn and many more. Rob Zombie, Marty Friedman (former Megadeth guitarist) and countless other God’s of Metal are protective of these women for their talent and willingness to develop their own sound versus following some old formula. I haven’t read the other comments yet, which I know will be full of great information for you. Once again thank you for returning and please don’t let it be another year. Your great!

Babymetal started when a Japanese producer Koba saw 11 year old Suzuka Nakamoto performing. Koba was a metal fan who was a fan of X-Japan and Metallica. He was working in the children's division of Amuse. He had several ideas for his next project and one of them was a fusion of Japanese Idol music and Metal. When he saw Suzuka Nakamoto he decided to make Babymetal and that she would front it. About a year and half later Babymetal recorded their first song. They were organized together with an Idol Group called Sakura Gakuin. Babymetal started as a subunit. So all 3 girls were members of Sakura Gakuin. A lot of people say subunit like they were less important. But I don't think that is really true. They had much fewer girls so they had to be the subunit. Sakura Gakuin had between 10 and 12 girls usually. They performed at Idol shows in the beginning and the music was recorded. But their very first music video was a hit. They were always much more popular than the 'main' group. They quickly started doing their own shows even before they were officially independent in early 2013. They were doing pretty big shows before they had enough songs of their own. They did covers and different versions of the same song which were both actually really cool. But they haven't done that for a long time. They have over 50 songs now. The show in the video is pretty early. That was the first ever performance of Gimme Chocolate and it hadn't been released yet. They performed both the metal version of Headbanger and the dubstep version at that show and also Suzuka Nakamoto covered 'Tamashii No Rufuran' which was a hit anime song from 1997. The show was 'Legend of 1997' it was for Suzuka Nakamoto's 16th birthday. She was born in 1997.

In layman's terms, BABYMETAL began as school club. Amuse Talent Agency ran an Idol group called Sakura Gakuin. There were about a dozen girls in this group, and Amuse trained them in performance arts and education. As part of this "school", different clubs were formed. Some were in music, but there were also clubs for things like cooking, science and baton. The three girls you see here joined the "Heavy Music" club. This song was recorded in 2013, which means the lead singer was 15 years old, and the other two were 13. When the lead singer graduated, there was a real fear that the group would disband. However, Amuse decides to keep BABYMETAL intact, and the group became an international phenomenon. Known for their powerful and theateic live shows, the group has released three albums and toured in many counties. Currently on hiatus, the group appears to be ramping up with a new album and tour. This is pure speculation, though Amuse has recently been releasing cryptic messages alluding to this.

Great reaction! 🤘🦊🤘Thank you for giving BABYMETAL a chance. Here is a little bit of BABYMETAL info...In 2019, BABYMETAL became the first Asian artists to hit #1 on BILLBOARD's Top Rock Albums chart with their latest album, "Metal Galaxy" and in 2020 the album won the MTV Japan VMA 2020 award for BEST ALBUM OF THE YEAR. BABYMETAL has been melting faces for ELEVEN+ years. Su-metal, the lead singer, is currently 24 years old (In the video, she just turned 16). BABYMETAL have performed with, toured with, or opened for Metallica, Korn, Dragonforce, Guns N' Roses, Lady Gaga, Rob Halford of Judas Priest (there's a great youtube video of their performance with Rob at a metal award show), and Red Hot Chili Peppers (there is a youtube video of them performing Gimme Chocolate with RHCP, as well as with Korn, and DragonForce), to name a few of many. They have performed at large metal events/concerts in front of 65,000+ skeptical metalheads in Europe (Glastonbury, Download, Sonisphere, etc), US, and Asia. Plus the 20+ awards they have been given. They have 50+ songs and each one is different from the other, so I hope you give the other songs a try. By the way, they have some really great heavy songs too, and I hope you like guitar solos, as well as bass and drum solos, like I do, because they have them too.🤘🦊🤘

The genre that spawned is called "kawaii metal" from what I remember. But you guys should definitely check out their live performances. They just might surprise you. They have a wide array of songs that are very different from one another The idea of BabyMetal was to make metal appeal to even more people, even young girls. And they did it. It makes me smile seeing a crowd comprised of metal heads and then girls who don't usually listen to metal. And one of the BabyMetal trio loves encouraging this by singling out the young girls in the crowd and making eye-contact with them and smiling at them. The formula worked. You can find videos on KZfaq where kids rock out to metal because of this band. And it always makes me laugh or smile.

their audience, at least at the time when they first came out in 2012 (2014 when they started really getting noticed) was young preteen girls right up to 60 + year old hard core metalheads. one of their concerts is the equivalent of a whole summer of attending weekend metal festivals to catch the best of every genre of metal ... they are indeed one of the miracles of the Japanese music scene ... the Japanese (all Asia really of you look a bit) have taken many of the Western music genres and put a while new twist on them ... not just doing strange (but wonderful) things, but like the Japanese have done by taking rich and raw fish, or sand and rocks and turning them into sushi and rock gardens, they have taken Western music and made it even better.

Rondo of Nightmare next for Babymetal please! You'll get an opening with the band (who is literally one of the best bands in the world) and a solo by lead singer Su-Metal! and it's in 3/4 time for most of it! And also, I think of Gimme Chocolate not just as a way to ease people who like pop into the heavy metal sound, but also to ease the artists, who were J-pop idols beforehand with no concept of metal music, into singing metal. These girls were very young when this group started, all below 17, and had never listened to metal before their producer made their group!

Babymetal is a band AND a genre. The fanbase is from young kids to old people like me. Babymetal doesn't refer to the girl's age. The words Heavy Metal and Babymetal in Japanese are written very similar. It's kind of a play on words. This is very early in their career. Su, the lead singer had just turned sixteen the day before. Yui and Moa were fourteen. This concert was months before their first album was released. Their fanbase was growing quickly. So much more for you to experience. Every song is different. You're in for a treat if you enjoyed this one. Kitsune up!

Very nice reaction! I love seeing people hear BABYMETAL for the first time. Because it reminds me of the first time I heard it myself. By the way, I think BABYMETAL is a band that has a lot to admire in older people who listen to old rock and metal music. I hope you continue to react to BABYMETAL!

Obligatory "Road of Resistance - Live in Japan (Official)" incomming. Other will tell you to react to: "Rondo Of Nightmare", "Megitsune", "Karate", "The One", " Ijime dame zettai - Live in Sonisphere", "Catch me if you can", "Babymetal Death", "Headbanger", ... and each and every one if these songs is awesome. But may I suggest something that is less often reacted to. Something like "GJ", for example?

Honestly, there are sooo many great bands in Japan that grew up listening to American rock and/or pop. Japan has picked up the gauntlet and has ran with it. Please review lots more.

Welcome to Babymetal's "foxhole". Gimme Chocolate is one of BM's early, more J-pop influenced songs. It's the song that first brought them fame on KZfaq, and is often the first of their songs someone hears just because it pops up on the top of search results. But it's not really a fan favorite because it's a little gimmicky and it doesn't showcase Su's (the lead singer) voice very well. This performance is also does not have BM's backing band, The Kami Band, and is sung to a backing track. But it does give you an idea of the energy, talent and theatricality of BM. Next check out "Headbanger - Legend 1997" from the same concert and "Road of Resistance - Live in Japan".

I'm 54 and have mostly been a metal head (attending concerts wise) and have seen most major bands from A-Z in the last 40 years. I only discovered them in 2019 - saw Gimme Chocolate first (even though it's not my favourite song) I have to say they are the Real Deal - I went to see them in February 2020 here in London and it was just electric - the Kami Band are just superb musicians. I could write loads but I'll just say that at that concert the age range was from between 12 and 70 something. They have been criticised by the metal snobs but they are very narrow minded - Babymetal is a Cultural experience that really shouldn't work but delightfully does. Great reaction guys, can't wait to see more! 😃

I've been listening to metal since the 80s until I get turned off by the direction in the 90s moving toward screaming/growling as the main vocals and not just an occasional effect or accent. BABYMETAL and the genre they invented, Kawaii Metal (Cute Metal) is for me, the best thing to ever happen to Metal music. High energy metal, catchy pop singing and lyrics and the choroegraphy! It's not just 4 or 5 dudes standing around, it's a complete show! BM has pulled me back into loving metal and music in general. It makes me so happy. Check out Road of Resistance Live from Japan if you haven't already! One of the best peformances i've ever seen.

Great reaction, guys....and I am sure I cannot add much of anything that has not already been said previously. What I can say is that I am 59 years old, and have been listening to Metal since the late 70's...and this band has breathed new life into Metal, as far as I am concerned. You really need to hear more to understand, but let me say that I have never been so happy listening to a band in all those years, and I am so glad that I stumbled across them some four years ago. I do hope that you decide to listen and react to more!

BABYMETAL 101 Babymetal is a Japanese group founded in 2010 and produced by Kei “Koba” Kobayashi from the Amuse Inc. talent agency. Babymetal name comes from the birth of a new style of metal fusing j-pop with metal creating what they call Kawaii Metal (Cute-Metal). The group currently consists of Suzuka Nakamoto aka “Su-Metal” (23 years old) sometimes referred to as Vocal and Dance, and Moa Kikuchi aka "Moametal", pronounced as Moa-Metal (22 years old) sometimes referred to as Scream and Dance. With a third girl filling the third slot, in a 3-member formation. This girls is known as an Avenger her name is Momoko Okazaki (18 years old). They are supported by a rotating selection of talented male backing musicians known as the Kami Band (Kami is usually poorly translated as gods, but in truth it more closely means awe inspiring spirit, entity, or object) It is why they are dressed in white to look like ghosts or spirits, though Kami being used as God(s) is so common in translation the white outfits get lost. Past Formations. Heavy Music Club Era (2010-2012) From 2010 to 2012 Babymetal consist of a three-member formation, Suzuka Nakamoto (Age 12), Moa Kikuchi (Age 10), and Yui Mizuno aka "Yuimetal" pronounced Yui-Metal. (Age 10). First starting out as the Heavy Music Club as a subunit within the Developmental Idol Group created by Amuse in 2010 known as Sakura Gakuin. Sakura Gakuin is a group that introduces girls between the ages of 10-15 to music, dance, modeling, and acting through Japanese Pop idol music and culture. Given a school theme, all three would be a part of Sakura Gakuin until their graduation from it in the same school year they would graduate from Japanese middle school or 15 years old. Suzuka graduated in March 2013, and Moa and Yui in March of 2015. Sakura Gakuin is a fantastic group with great kawaii jpop songs in their own right. During this time there was no lore, and the girl’s costumes were more punkish in nature which they helped create. They also didn’t perform with live music, using a backing track or the “Skeleton band” people pretending to play music behind them. Music Video of this Era Doki Doki Morning Iine (Pronounced EE-NAH spelled i i n e) Headbangya Babymetal/ Metal Resistance Era (2012-2017) Starting in 2012 with the Legend I concert, Babymetal began its slow divorce from Sakura Gakuin, and was the first introduction of the Kami Band as well as the “Lore” that is still heavily involved in Babymetal but makes far less sense than it did during this time. The Lore is complex and involves a battle against other evil idol corporations, gaining powers, some time travel, running a resistance group, all at the direction of a mythical deity known as the fox god, against an all power enemy known as Akiba. The first Legend show I was the Kami Bands introduction to the end, but it also had the Skeleton Band which is seen in the wildly popular Gimmie Chocolate Music Video. This was followed by Legend D, and then Legend Z, in which it was learned that Babymetal would continue as its own entity after Suzuka’s graduation from Sakura Gakuin in March of 2013. Slowly over 2013 the Skeleton Band would be phased out of all live shows, as Babymetal came into their own. Babymetal as it is most commonly known as with Su-Metal, Moametal, Yuimetal, the Kami Band, and a somewhat understandable lore is what consisted for the majority of it’s existence. Also established beyond the 3 member formation, they had 2 other set ups, one was what fans called Su-Solos, and it would just be Su on stage with the Kami band, performing a solo, and the other is known as Black Babymetal by the band themselves, which consisted of just Moa and Yui. Music Videos of this Era Gimmie Chocolate Megitsune Rondo of Nightmare - With mischief of the Gods Intro (Su Solo and a great expedition of the Kami Band) Road of Resistance Live in Japan (Co-written by Dragonforce) Iijime, Dame, Zettai Live at Sonisphere (Name means No More Bullying Forever) Karate The Dark Times, The Chosen 7 Era (2018) In December 2017, Yui would miss the Legend-S concert for health reasons, these health problems would prosiest into 2018 and greatly affect the 2018 touring season bring the “Chosen 7” formation, consisting of Suzuka Nakamoto, Moa Kikuchi, and 2 backing dancers Minako Maruyama, and Minami Tsukui. Changes they would not tell fans and all throughout 2018 communicate extraordinarily little causing lots of pain for all involved fan and performer. This era is noted by their strange armor like costumes, sometimes referred to as Elf Armor. To make the poor communication, and Yui’s absence wasn’t bad enough, one of the more regular Kami band members, Mikio Fujioka passed away after falling off a balcony in late December 2017 while star gazing. A beloved and incredibly talented musician lost leaving behind his wife and only child. In September 2018 Yui would formally resign from Babymetal, stating her unspecified health and wishing to move on. Babymetal themselves announced that the group will move on focusing on Suzuka and Moa. (Something many idiots within the fandom refuse or are too stupid to understand) In October Babymetal had a concert called Dark Night Carnival which added dancers, Shoko Akiyama, Saya Hirai, and Kotono, placing a total of seven girls on stage. This was also done without warning to fans and was an absolute mess. Babymetal would finish off the 2018 tour season returning to the 3-member formation with just Saya Hirai joining them in southeast Asia and Australia. Ending one of the most troubling times in Babymetal’s history. Music Videos of this Era (These MVs do not feature the members in them at all) Distortion Starlight (Don’t let overzealous fans fool you, this is OFFICIALLY not a tribute to anyone. A lot of fan speculation, end of story if they claim it is they are 100% lying to you.) Metal Galaxy Era (2019- Feb 2020) The current set up was first introduced in 2019 during the Babymetal Arises concert in Yokohama, before the start, the “Avenger” support dancer concept was explained in the lore, and the concept thanks to communication and a maintaining of the 3-member formation brought Babymetal out of dark times brought about during 2018. Babymetal seemed to have returned to its roots with the Avengers, as 2 of the three (Kano and Momoko) come from Sakura Gakuin. The third Riho, went to the same performing arts school as Suzuka during the same time, Actors School Hiroshima aka ASH. Music Videos of this Era Pa Pa Ya Elevator Girl Shanti Shanti Da Da Dance (Avenger confusion) Which Avenger one sees can be confusing for those new to Babymetal. For the Music Videos, Pa Pa Ya, Elevator Girl, and Shanti Shanti Shanti, it is Kano Fujihira, who was just 14 years old at the time. Da Da Dance is a compilation of Momoko and Riho and a splicing of 2 different shows. In most fan cam videos of the American and European tour it would be either Riho or Momoko, as they toured with Babymetal in 2019. Kano had responsibilities with Sakura Gakuin as its president, a position Suzuka and Moa both held in Sakura Gakuin, and she’s never flown on a plane before. Some fans for 2019 did throw a stupid temper tantrum over the use of new Kami Band members who are from the west now known as the West Coast Kami Band, but like how the girls won over many, so did they and the payoff with the Legend Metal Galaxy concert in 2020 was well worth it. COVID Era (Mar 2020 to April 2021) COIVD-19 has messed up a lot of things for everyone, Babymetal had to cancel their Asian tour, as well their big 10th Anniversary on October 10, 2020. Forced to keep it rather tame something very unlike Babymetal as even in their failures like the entire 2018 tour they do it septically. The question for many fans is what of the Avengers, since COVID, Avenger Riho Sayashi has signed with a new agency and has move on to other projects, including starting a fan club, which appears to rule her out of ever being an Avenger again. Kano Fujihara has graduated from Sakura Gakuin on August 30, 2020, a near 4 month delay. However, she and fellow Sakura Gakuin graduates Soyoka Yoshida, Tsugumi Aritomo, and Momoe Mori in the formation of @onefive. Which leaves Momoko Okazaki as last standing Avenger with no new commitments. However, Kano was technically in Sakura Gakuin, @onefive, and Babymetal all at the same time for almost a year so it is possible she will still be an Avenger. All shows since COVID pandemic they have done in 2020 and in 2021 have had Momoko as the Avenger. Music Videos of this Era BxMxC (First music video that isn’t footage from a show and featuring Su and Moa since Karate in 2015)

Post 10 year Anniversary/ Covid Era Part 2 (May 2021-Current) The band is stepping back from live shows due to the Covid-19 Pandemic and focusing on the sale of Merch. Don't let stupid fans fool you the band is not on hiatus or ending. They are idiots and deserves to be made fun of. Momoko had a very very short stint in a Korean Idol Competition Show called Planet 99. She performed perfectly, better than most of the other girls in the show. She even got the most votes in a small side competition demolitioning all other 98 girls in the show in votes. This won her some hair dye (She is blonde currently). Ultimately be it dumb BM fans thinking the side competition was the actual competition, how the judging was heavily skewed to Korean voters, the fact that her fate was tied to 2 other girls one Korean and one Chinese, and or possibly ridged voting something the company producing the show has done in the past, Momoko was eliminated in the very first round. BM's producer Kei Kobayashi also put out a biography in early September, and all proceeds will go to the Babymetal team not for himself. Once again don't let even more idiot fans fool you the band isn't going broke... This fandom is filled with a lot of them sadly. Recently since April 2022 they've been putting out very tiny snippets of new songs in the work sadly these are just a few second instrumentals.

Their choreographer is Mikiko who was also the choreographer & stage manager for the Japanese part of the closing ceremonies of the 2016 Rio de Janeiro Olympics. The team behind Babymetal is top-notch. They have opened for Metallica, Judas Priest, Guns N' Roses, Lady Gaga, and many others. And they have outlasted many other bands having started in 2010.

Excellent reaction and welcome to BABYMETAL. I'm so glad you enjoyed watching this sone because it tends to polarize the people on their first time watching. "Gimme Chocolate" is a fun song and it's intentionally catchy, and poppy but also very heavy instrumentally on purpose. To the point it went viral in 2014 and helped a lot to them to be internationally known. As it's said before this is just the tip of the iceberg, so expect the unexpected and prepare to be surprised. Until next time!
