** NEW WEBSITE - NOW LIVE ** (August 2020)
If you'd like to know more about us, our plans, our boat and this adventure, then be sure to check out our new website here: www.cluelessyachties.com
In this episode we take the mast down on our old sailing boat to have her fully inspected and then plan the work we need to have carried out. The amount that needs fixing ends up being a fair amount more than we originally anticipated so we tackle as many jobs as possible ourselves as well as Dominic going to work every day whilst the project is on going, to keep the sailing fund topped up.

No worries matey, always happy to give credit where it's due, although I might skip the video if it involves polishing chin plates again, or else Carly will only give me a hard time that ours are not perfect mirrors 😂😂

Don't worry about not polishing the chain plates. Once the protective corrosion layer sets in they won't be shiny any more. I shook my head when I watched Mass do that. To each his own I reckon.

I know this is late but I'm just now watching this video. In re-installing your chainplate, I think I would have sanded and epoxied the wood you mounted it to down below. Any moisture that is in the wood will seep out and provide a source of moisture that will be in constant contact with the chainplate and it will lead to corrosion again like it was before. And any moisture that seeps down the chainplate will soak into the wood and cause it to rot.

Really enjoying the easygoing style of your channel and your enthusiasm to learn. Regarding chainplate maintenance - from my experience you can be certain that there is rotten core where the chainplates pass through the deck. It might have been a good idea to take measurements with a moisture-meter on the fiberglass underside of the deck (as the topside teak deck covering would provide misleading readings). A more general recommendation would be to buy a moisture-meter and get experience taking readings wherever possible. Core rot is the cancer that slowly destroys older sailboats. Any progressive core rot must be stopped in its tracks: (a) wet/rotten core removed/replaced, or (b) wet/rotten core dried out and then saturated with low-viscosity epoxy. Each approach is a massive amount of work, which must be done under cover. You may have taken into consideration when buying this boat that if/when you find elevated moisture in the core, due to leakage around screws penetrating the fiberglass deck upper skin, you will have to remove some/all of the teak decking to remediate this problem. I am sorry to be the bearer of bad news.

Sailing Cadoha well I’m living on one at the moment, it’s just 110m and £250,000,000 😂😂😂 amount of sailing channels I have seen that don’t have warm showers, not sure i could deal with that. Just started watching Kara and Nate as they travel in a van and they have a small solar water heater..... their fridge is far too small though! Haha I love the Delos under saloon seat freezer that’s epic! Keep doing what your doing guys 🤘🏼

Great stuff as always. 1. high anxiety over the small bit of cereal cream on D's beard in the first segment, 2. So glad to know your British History lessons took and you connected with Excalibur (very dramatic moment!), 3. And that amazing wooden vessel you are rafted to, and 4. A wonderful perspective on global anxieties...and a vision for Cadoha's future. (5. Never seen a chainplate so carefully cleaned!) Well done and Cheers, Peter

Sailing Cadoha A few suggestions: Make sure that you have a multifuel cooking capability (I am still to get an induction element as a reserve in case I run out of gas). Washing machine 100% agree, if you haven’t encountered Wago electrical connectors...get some (they are not water proof but will make connections a breeze ... you can waterproof later), as far as possible have all pumps of the Jabsco quick connect type (I am designing some slide together fittings for my machinist in Australia to produce so that I can upgrade every other liquid connection including in the engine bay), look into converting to a water chest raw water plumbing system (one below water sea cock with a good quality SS or bronze filter box and distribution manifold), I found a rotary pop rivet tool ... haven’t used it but my neighbour needed a tool after breaking his riveter.. lent him mine ...best tool ever he said ... look them up. I’m looking forward to learning what your choices are as you go.

Hey thanks for the feedback. I did actually put some butyl around the base of the chain plate (where it pops out above the deck) and also a tiny bit at the head of each screw. Perhaps I could have shown some of that, although I hesitate to get too 'how to' in my vids when there are so many great tutorials out there. But yes, so far it seems like good stuff, it's been raining hard for several days and everything inside is bone dry for the first time since we've had the boat 😁😁😁

You're almost certainly right, and we know that KZfaq even (apparently) pushes your vids harder when you have regular as clockwork uploads, but the truth is that we just don't want to make vids for the sake of making them, and instead release something when we think we have something interesting or (hopefully) funny to watch.
