I'm a sucker for ANY vintage chainsaw. While I've known of some pretty solid Craftsman chainsaws, the rebadged Poulan 3400 Counter Vibe comes to mind, I've never seriously looked at them if I'm being honest. After picking up this saw, I may start paying more attention to them. This is an Echo CS-701SVL. At 70.7CC, she's a sweet little saw!
I hope you enjoy the video. Thanks for watching!
If you learned something or were possibly entertained, please consider subscribing, sharing the video, or maybe giving me a like. It all helps, and I sure would appreciate it!

Yes indeed! Great video! Yes My Dad and me ran this same exact model chainsaw from 1975 to 1982 and it was VERY RELIABLE. I dont know how many dozens of trees, limbing, and recutting bigger logs into smaller sizes, But it was the ONLY chainsaw we used for at least 7yrs. It is a bit on the heavier side so you will have to take a Liquid refreshment break sooner than COMPARABLE to the saws of today. I am sure they are very hard to find parts for but i would Hang onto it.

Thank you. You have some good memories and serious hours on this saw. Good stuff! I think I'm going to keep this one. Like you said, just a solid vintage chainsaw.

A couple months ago I picked up a John Deere 66SV for $40 off FB Market place. It’s a rebadged Echo 610 EVL a 60 cc twin cylinder. It too is used but not abused and was able to get it running without much effort. An antique dealer found it as a barn find and dealt in furniture not tools therefore the good buy. I live in south central Nebraska which is not chainsaw country. A very lucky find! PTL!

What a cool saw, and $40!! I've seen some of the Echo twin cylinder saws, rare, and they go for big money typically. Hang on to that one!

Cool saw. I like the old 70s echo saws I have owned a few, I still have a 750

I have two of those in good shape. One has bar stud troubles. I like how long they are keeping your hands farther apart.

You have two great saws. I'm with you, I like the feel of the saws in the hand. You may be able to pound those bars studs through and replace them.

The 4.3 stands for 4.3 cubic inch which is 70.7cc. I have one of them also. They are very nicely made by Kioritz-Echo, are a bit heavy for their size and a bit underpowered for their displacement, but still a nice find. I don't think Sears sold many of these, so a nice addition to the collection. The idle and chain oiler adjuster knobs are features other manufacturers should have copied. My friend bought it new from Sears. I maintained it for him from new, and inherited it just before he passed away.

I appreciate the information as I don't know much about them. Did you make a video on this saw? I knew sears rebadged a lot of Poulan, Homelite and Roper saws, but didn't know about Echo. I figured they must not be too common. I too like the Idle and oiler features on these saws, they just make sense. I really like my Echo 452 and 650, solid saws. As you said, they are a little underpowered for their displacement. I'm excited to get this saw up an running!

I did a video where I talked about the saw, but didn't run it. My friend who owned it from new, had over 60 acres of trees, and purchased the Craftsman 4.3 for doing heavier work on his place. It didn't have the performance he was looking for, so it got relegated to being a backup saw, and as a result is in very nice condition. My video was about 4 months ago called (Vintage Chainsaws- The Good-The So So-And The Weird.) I will do a video of it next spring out doing some cutting. Good job on your video !@@EightWheelsRollin

I'll have to go back and watch the one you mentioned again. I'll definitely be looking for the video in the spring. You really scored on that saw. I've only been able to get mine to run well in spurts. I'm having carb issues or there's an air leak somewhere. When it does run well, it seems to pull pretty hard and have a good bit of torque. Thanks for the kind words, I appreciate it!

I just got one of those but it's in really great shape but they threw the caps after draining the fuel and oil

Great saw! Bummer they threw the caps away, but at least the saw is in good shape. For the time being, I would start taking caps off of anything you have in your house and see if they'll fit. That may work while you look for some OEM caps.
