Really like this glider and the colour scheme is straight out of the 60s.

Hey, maybe Gordon will need a couple of seconds of sepia tone each time he features in a video. You know, just to settle him in. ;¬)

In the "old days" we'd have an oily nitro engine in there and a tank of fuel. Usually that was plenty of ballast.

Like your seance of humor Bruce. That red and white checkering looks good. Suggest to Gordon that instead of checkering text time he use solid polished mahogany. It may not fly but it would look beautiful hanging from the sealing. ;-)

I have one of these spectra gliders with the original color scheme! Its converted to brushless from a huge brushed motor and nicd cells to lipo. It flies pretty well actually.
@coriscotupi5 жыл бұрын
I too converted a 20+ year old, 2m glider from DC motor & 10-pack NiCD pack to brushless+lipo. The model is not only hundreds of grams lighter but also gained a substantial power boost. This transformed the typical flights from 3-minute climb, 5 minute glide, with perhaps one or two climbs before recharging, to rocket-like, 30-second climbs, half-hour glides, rinse/repeat as desired. A single lipo charge lasts a full afternoon at the club, doing half-hour long flights. This glider will be half a century old next year (knock on wood) and is still going strong.

I overheard you saying that multirotor ESCs don't have brakes on them. Newer firmware for them now has brakes on them, for snappier response during freestyle stunts. I didn't know that they DIDN'T have brake on multirotor ESCs... Also nice to know that brake is a good thing for gliders. I'll set it on my AXN when I get one.

I'm surprised that no one mentioned the reverse prop and motor rotation! When seeing the prop on backward during setup, I expected to see not such a good fight of the old power glider! OH WAIT! I forgot this is down under so everything is reversed, like water goes down a drain in the opposite direction. Right ?😃👍

Primary turn is always on your right hand stick. Is that true? That's how I set mine up cause moving throttle wiggled the rudder if I put it on the left stick. Thanks!

G'day, Harrrumph ! Them there young Whippersnappers don't know they're alive, what with their ARF Plastic Fantastic Whatevertheycall'ems...! Next, you'll have to build something out of Spruce & Bamboo, covered with Oiled Silk, and using a Compressed-Air Hargrave Rotary-Engine, with the Fuselage comprising a High-Pressure Reservoir of hand-soldered Brass Shim...; that'll teach them what *Real AEROMUDDLING is all about...!* ;-p Ciao !

Hi Bruce I know it's a old vid but I noticed the wing is not parallel with the tail? Does that matter? As I've just bought a bexster and that is the same and I've already glued it up
@xjet5 жыл бұрын
Whilst it is desirable for the wing and tailplane to be parallel, unless there's a huge angle, you simply won't notice any difference.

tell me more about this ESC "brake".. and why would you need it ?
@xjet7 жыл бұрын
Most ESCs have a "brake" facility which, when turned on, causes the motor to stop the propeller from freewheeling when the throttle is closed. The advantage of this (on a glider) is that it reduces the drag that the propeller causes. Oddly enough, a stopped propeller produces less drag than one which is freewheeling. So... turn on the brake and the plane will glide further and longer.
@gailraby17227 жыл бұрын
+xjet thank you, I am in my first year with this hobby, started with a cheap quad, then a racing quad with FPV, I how have 4 fixed wing including a J3, and a 1600 EPG, it had it's first flight at the weekend, I had noticed the fold back prop was still spinning with the power off... I will have to look into this Brake.. love your videos, you have taught me lots and made me smile, you're very funny, most of all you have shown me not to take the hobby too seriously and enjoy it, you gave me confidence to just do it so thanks.
@gailraby17227 жыл бұрын
+xjet any help with "turning on the brake" would be gratefully received.
@chrisleech15656 жыл бұрын
did you sort it out? For simple ESC's it may be done with the programming card applicable to that particular flavour of ESC
