Reminds me a bit of "Salem's Lot"; King mentioned in an interview that he set the story in a small town rather than, say, New York, because he felt that 'old-school' vampires wouldn't last long in a modern city.

Can tou expalin this joke to me? Is that a specific reference or the joke is just he sucked some random common person from a pedestrian/plebeian poor neighborhood or something like that?.
@howardcoles3537

@@leif1075 Your second idea is the right one. The joke IS that he preyed on some random common person, compared to the upper class victim that the other "vampire " was bragging about. So the humour is the idea that the old school vampires are being snobbish !

@LichQueenKathie Personally I think Hellsing's Alucard is the best depiction of a vampire around - he's pretty much Stoker's Dracula with liberal amounts of Lovecraftian eldtritch abomination thrown in for good measure.

old school vampires will ALWAY be better than the new vampires of today! what can I say I just swoon if some handsome vampire would say " do you wish to remain forever young sweet princess"!!!! *swoon* I a 24 year old female virgin and im not ashamed!
@leirgauk

+priestessmikokikyo77 I'm a 26yo virgin dude :) I wanna save it for the girl of my life. And I'm proud of that, and I'm glad you are too! But I'd REALLY prefer it if she was a virgin too. I think it's extremely tragic that our modern Western society encourages young teens to lose their virginity ASAP as if it's a disease or something, and that romantic partners is something that "comes and goes". I should make it clear that I'm agnostic and follow no particular religion.

"I'm a 26yo virgin dude :) I wanna save it for the girl of my life." That's dumb, stop wasting your youth. You're not "saving" anything, you're just wasting the chance to enjoy your life, and ensuring that whoever does have sex with you is going to be disappointed when it turns out you're like 30 and have no experience. "And I'm proud of that, and I'm glad you are too! But I'd REALLY prefer it if she was a virgin too." You shouldn't be proud of it, because it's a shortcoming. Virginity is nice if you're a teenager, and then you and your partner can discover sex together. It also helps because neither one of you has enough experience to know how bad a job you're both doing. At 26 this is no longer wide-eyed teenage excitement, sex is a normal part of life, and you should know what you're doing. A reasonable woman your age already knows what she's doing, and she will notice that you're clueless at it. "I think it's extremely tragic that our modern Western society encourages young teens to lose their virginity ASAP" You do realize that in older societies, people got married at like 14-16, right? People ten years younger than you already had kids. What you're actually doing here is saying that it would be better if people who were ready to have sex simply waited for no good reason, and threw away ten or so good years of youthful, pleasurable sexuality. Years you will never get back, by the way. Oh, and your first sexual experience will have a major psychological effect on you. Everyone remembers their first sexual encounter in great detail. I know I recall mine like it was yesterday, despite being decades ago. By not having sex, you're stunting your emotional growth, because you have no idea what a relationship is like after sex exists, and you're effectively acting like 15-year-old (in certain ways) without realizing it. You have put something on a pedestal that is just a normal part of life. Stop. "as if it's a disease or something" Virginity isn't a disease, but it's also not a prize. You're acting like there's something superior about having no sexual experience, and there really, really isn't. "and that romantic partners is something that 'comes and goes'." Romantic partners ARE something that comes and goes. People generally don't marry the first person they date, which means dating has a failure rate above 50%. Even marriage has a failure rate of 50%, and that's even if we count divorce as the only type of marital failure - as opposed to counting abusive or just plain unhappy couples who technically stay married as failures too. This isn't some fairy tale where two people with no sexual history and no sexual relationship magically "fall in love" and then get married and live happily ever after. Those stories are oversimplified and unrealistically happy, and they're for children. This is an adult topic, you need to grow up and face it like an adult.

I have never experienced sex. I am young and now 26 still a "virgin" It is not my fault. I am a very picky person and I hope one day to understand that passion between man and woman. Men have never found me desirable and I have learned to except that fact. I am waiting the right older man who will understand me and take me seriously. what rode I take in life is my own God an Jesus will see to it!

I don't like Twilight, but if it's present there, I tell you it's stolen from a game called Vampire: The Masquerade, a roleplaying game that has been on since 1990, and one of the types of vampires possess a power called "Celerity", which does just that, but it isn't all vampires.

It's been a vampire thing for a lot longer than V:tM; showing up in works going all the way back to Stoker (possibly earlier, but I have to admit I never got round to reading the earlier 19th century novels: I managed about half a chapter of Varney the Vampire, and it was terrible). The slow, ethereal glide was also in Dracula, and wound up popular in theatre and early films because it was a cheap eerie effect, while the superspeed one was a pain to do on film until recently (and virtually impossible on stage).
