Using the New Holland LX865 skid steer to clear property land ended with the purchase of a tooth bucket, a stump bucket, and a root grapple. All of these implements helped to take down trees, collect them into piles, and clear large areas of roots fairly efficiently. The only issue is the number of problems caused by using old worn out machines for rough work!

Hey there from Wyoming. Came across your cooling system video for your cummins swap and used some of your techniques to mount my radiator on my 350 Chevy swapped mini truck. Saw all the negative comments on that video. Pretty lame. You’re a cool guy and I admire how you fabricated all that on your own. I think I’ll order those 14 inch fans you posted on the description if you’re still happy with them. Thanks for putting out these positive videos! You are making a difference. Thank you.

I've been quite impressed with the fans! I was afraid there may not be enough airflow back there but with the fans it hasn't been an issue. (After replacing the thermostat and water pump anyways). Thanks for the comment, hope your project goes well!

Those new Hollands are very tough machines, but they're downfall is having to do repairs in the field. You got lucky on that solenoid simply being disconnected. I currently have an LX 665 broke down in the swamp! I can't get a truck within a hundred yards of it and I don't have the jacking kit to tilt the cab. I ended up bringing in another skid steer to get the cab open. Now I have to replace the hydraulic line to the drive motor. If the machine breaks down with the boom down it's a nightmare to work on. I had to replace a fuel pump with the boom down and it took me over an hour and a fair share of cuss words to get it done! I also replaced my starter without tilting the cab . It wasn't fun but I got it done. Everybody I've talked to who has had one of these machines says they're great until they break and usually the only excuse for getting rid of them is because they were too much of a pain to work on. With the right tools working on a concrete slab or in a shop tilting the cab is not a problem and it actually makes access to the machine excellent for maintenance and repairs. At this point I intend to keep mine knowing this limitation but I also own other heavy equipment that can back me up if it's broke down somewhere tough. I hope you have good luck with that machine and it serves you well!

Yeah, I had to replace the hydraulic pump, and then the hydraulic line from the pump to the valve set twice within a couple weeks. It was a major pain and my can has been welded to the frame since all of the bolts snapped off at some point. Doing all of that from under the seat was painful.

Nice video. If you plan on doing more land clearing with the skid steer I highly recommend you look into a pair of OTT tracks. Turns the machine into a different piece of equipment.

I've been seriously considering OTT. Just not sure if it's worth it

@@StateFun If you are going to keep the machine and do dirt work I would strongly consider it. I will be publishing a video soon with my set up. Pushes like a tank now. Only negative is the time to get them set up properly or changing a flat tire. Flat tire becomes a little more of a job with the tracks on.

I have the same skid steer. Did you have to use wheel spacers or just flip the rims around? What size spacer?
@dongarrett7595
@dongarrett7595 5 ай бұрын
@@Freds2323 I don't see a reply to your question, so I'll chime in. I have a lx665 with steel tracks, I just "flipped" the wheels around. I don't like spacers and this gives the right amount of space. Just makes it a little difficult to check air pressure. You have to switch sides when you do this to have the tires in the proper direction.

Have you considered having your tires professionally filled with polyurethane... flat proofing?
@StateFun
@StateFun 3 ай бұрын
I haven't, the tires need to be replaced anyways, so I have looked at solid tires or track conversion, but both options are expensive so I keep working on the old work or tires for now lol

Great videos, I've got 25 acres, I have a tractor and skid steer (JD 320E). I rent excavators from time to time but they get expensive at $3000 per month. Are you still fond of that stump bucket? I've considered buying one but I want to try one out. I have mostly small trees and pines under 8 inches.
@StateFun
@StateFun Жыл бұрын
Stump bucket has worked extremely well for me. Certain types of trees are more difficult that others, but most of what I toppled went fairly smooth. I even toppled a few pines that were probably 8-10 inches as well. I think it could handle a bit larger pine too.
