I'm an old-timer. I want one. When closed this knife reminds me of one I had as a farm boy too many hears ago. Great video (My wife doesn't want me to watch your videos any longer because I see things that make me want to spend money on both useful and sentimental items.)

Based upon this review I purchased one of these knives. I found the blade and saw do their jobs very well. I like the tweezers; however, as a child I was advised not to remove a tick by pulling on it as you risk leaving the head in your body and causing an infection. I was told it is better to light a match and place the extinguished, but still hot, match head on the tick's body causing the tick to back it's head out of your body. I've not found a use for the metal pick but that is probably due my lack of imagination. I have found this tool to be an excellent value. Brian, thank you for introducing me to this knife.

+Richard Edgecomb I heard the same thing but I just read an article last week that said the latest advice is to pull ticks out carefully. I have always pulled them out regardless because the whole match head thing never worked for me

Yep, I can vouch for the tweezers working when done correctly and NOT working when done incorrectly. I learned the hard way a couple times and have permanent scars to show for it. After those mistakes, I have been VERY careful and remove with tweezers, grab very deep, and dig out anything that’s left. I unfortunately remove about 6 ticks/year due to the time I spend in the woods. 😫🤷🏻‍♂️

I got one this last Christmas and it sharpens like a razor. It started sharp but a couple strokes on a strop finished it up very nicely. The saw is super aggressive and very handy for trap triggers etc. I like it a lot.

One thing about Schrade is that they make every pattern of folding knife. I carry a Case trapper and would love to have a saw blade on it. With that sheath, $25 is a great bargain. I am surprised it wouldn't strike a fero rod any better than it did, but that is OK.

Love Schrade's legacy knives. I hope they improve quality consistency and charge a few extra bucks. I still receive some that are faulty... bad edge, lock, centering, blade play etc. Still nice to have though. Nice job Brian.

cyclist01222 Yeah, I feel for companies like Schrade because for every person like you and I who would be happy to pay a little more for a little better quality, there are probably two or three folks who would already complain about the price. I guess they have to make a business decision as to how competitive they choose to be. Some companies do a better job of this than others, I honestly think Schrade does it pretty well.

nice little pocket knife. I do agree pocket knife are not design for fero rod strike, but they still are great and very usefull. in a pinch you could of use the cutting edge (yes i know but still) or the tooth of the saw (Maybe). I think the blade are low carbon, less to no sparks. My high carbon ones works fine on the fire- making rod.
@SurvivalOnPurpose
@SurvivalOnPurpose 10 жыл бұрын
I don't think the carbon content matters as far as striking a firesteel/ferrocerium rod. It is more dependent on how sharp whatever you are scraping with is. I have used a stainless steel knife, a harp rock and even a piece of broken glass to make showers if sparks from a decent ferro rod. On the other hand, carbon content definitely matters in getting sparks from a piece of flint or quartz. Thanks. - Bryan

Nice to see a saw blade, the swiss army farmer is another small knife with saw, but I like the classic look here, wonder how this would carry in pocket, file back side for ferro rod, it is rounded corners that are holding your spark back, For information if any are interested : The high carbon is for flint and steel more, I get great sparks off a SS butcher knife and I test with a magnet to see how SS it is, with ferro rod broken glass will give spark the sharp edge is ticket I am not dissing carbon in total effect or use as some say a carbon edge is sharper or easy to get sharp- my 2 cents here is great video on topic kzfaq.info/get/bejne/ftiSpK-pstPWhIk.html not my vid

Not impressed with this knife personally. The blades edge on mine smacks the back spring when. You close it causing a dull spot. Unsure if it's just mine but quality control on the Chinese old timers is not that impressive to me. The original US made knife is probably a much better blade.
