Remember a base model Metro 1.1c was £7k back in 1991! I learnt to drive in a 1.3 GL Aeroback. 1990 on a "G" Very light and very easy to drive and also very quiet. When it first arrived the 1.3GL Saloon was only £5999. Very cheap considering we brits were ripped off on new cars back then. Most of Europe in general was 20% less for new cars than the UK. A Base model Lada Riva 1300 special with vinyl seats was £3k in 1989.

£8,990 back in 1991 is equivalent to just over £17,000 in today's money (2018). You could get a seriously nice car for that today. Especially if you're looking at the used market.

A Kia Ceed starts at £18,850 for the base model - an i30 £17885- I'd say in a modern market thats an equivalent?

Watching it in 2020. There are some Malaysian still drives this car today. Proton GLS (Saga) and Wira is the most durable engine among proton's car before it's downfall on campro cvt nonsense. Proton saga is one of the achievement that can be proud as Malaysian because, it is the first time Malaysia entering car market and getting not a bad review. Now proton getting more ridiculous with super-tech-geely-rebadge car, while engine and air condition is getting worse.

I love the engine policy back in the 80s and 90s. Do you want a 1.2 litre with 80 HP, or a 1.3 Litre with 89 HP, he? You would think car makers would sell a bigger difference like 1.2 with 60, 1.6 with 90 or 2 litr with 120 or something like that.

John Reagan , believe all the way into the early '90s... There are quite a few US-spec specimens running the streets of Puerto Rico reliably in sedan, 3 and 5 door hatchbacks and estates (most are 1.5L petrols w/some T-1.6's thrown in). And I swear those are more reliable than the Mirages and G4's they bring today from Thailand.
