You, sir, are a man of many talents! Not just the bushcraft, but the work and creativity that went into filming the video was a work of art! And then, I read in the comments you played the music in the closing soundtrack! Very well done. Very impressive!

I'm looking at getting an OLD TOWN Guide 119 soon! I'll be coming from a 12.5 kayak, and I need the open space to carry all my camping/ fishing/ hunting gear, and it looks like this canoe can carry in all! I've looked for all the reviews, and your video was the one that sold me on this single man canoe! I think I'll use a longer paddle though... a 240mm paddle will keep ya from hitting the side walls... GOOD LUCK AND HAVE FUN WITH YOUR 119!!!

I was finally able to find a Guide 119 canoe a few weeks ago at Dick's, in Bridgeport, WV. Man, I LOVE THIS CANOE! Went for a short weekend fishing/camping trip on the Cheat River. It held all my gear, and still had room for more. Although the water level was low, and I had to portage a lot, it still was a GREAT TRIP. I like your camp setup!!! KEEP THE VIDEOS COMING!!! p.s....What kind of seat do ya have in your canoe? The plastic seat is very uncomfortable, to say the least. I just put a sealed foam seat pad on mine, for now, but I like the way yours is set up...
Love it man, so peaceful, fun to chill out and watch. Thanks man

Hey Sarge, that's a great setup you got there. I'm from northwest Connecticut not far from you and have been getting into the bush craft thing a bit over the last few years. I was wondering if you can explain how you go about finding your personal space out in the woods to set up a semi permanent camp and the laws or rules you should know?

Great vid, puts in mind Minnesota. I read Nessmuk last night, The shanty drawings seemd a little smaller and taller as it were, yours seems bigger inside, I had a hard time with some of the wieghts he lists, They all seem so light as in even today it would be hard.. 12 oz for a pack? 12 pds a boat? 30pds> total boat and load? What do you make of all that? I rarely here you talk of weight?
@sargefaria11 жыл бұрын

What a BEAUTIFUL canoe! What are the specs of your canoe? I sold mine several years before I moved to Alaska (about 25 years ago). I'd intended to replace it, but never got the job done. In Alaska I needed a larger boat more. I'd like to finally replace my canoe. Any suggestions? I need something for 2 people and camping gear (probably 18 feet). For lakes and slow moving rivers. Might sometimes use a small motor on a side mount. I don't like square end canoes (too much drag to paddle easy.)

Had mine for a couple of seasons and thinking of taking it out and putting in a web version a few inches lower. 43 lbs, 500 lb max cap., made in Maine...what's there not to like? Thanks Sarge. Yeah that's kind of what I thought. I have been using public property so far and I don't cut down live trees. I have found around here there is plenty of dead fall ever since that ice storm 2 years ago. I just didn't know what the laws might say about just walking into unused woodland areas and setting up camp. I believe in and practice leave no trace as far as trash and fire control/safety. I do leave some things setup like fire ring, any benches or natural material shelters.

Sarge, in case you or any other Old Town canoe owners are considering adding a light for safer night paddling on water near powerboats, I just wanted to let you know that the "Scotty" brand light does not fit the factory mount on your boat well. The "YakAttack" brand "Visicarbon" fits perfect in the factory Old Town deck mount. It also has a removable orange flag so hunters see you better when paddling through tall marsh grasses. It is easy to accidentally surprise hunters in a quiet canoe!

Thanks bro. Finding a spot can be very difficult for sure. Took me a while and finally I lucked out and got permission to use private property (1100 acres of it). I started out on public land. You have to know if fires are allowed and when, you shouldn't really be cutting down trees and stuff.....use deadfall. Unless you want some EP coming and making you replant a bunch of stuff for an astronomical amount of money lol. Just kind of have to know your area is the best i can tell ya man.
