Actually in manga industry when the author is famous enough they will have some assistants team draw everything except the characters for the author, so only thing Isayama do these days is drawing the main characters. Those realistic landscapes, buildings, horses, unimportant titans and else were done by a team of professional manga drawers. You can notice easily that only the facial design on main characters are still Isayama’s unique style. Isayama is a genius but gotta give credit to his team too, but sure he improved a lot.

1:18 this being the original scene vs the flashback, it even makes sense artistically if you think about it this way; The first version of the Colossal looks a lot more monstrous, which is how Eren would have seen him initially. The second one being Eren already knowing it was Bertholdt and remembering him with that likeness. Since it looks more like his face. Of course, it depends on what chapters this was from lol, but it’s just interesting to think about it this way.

This gives me so much hope as someone starting out drawing in the traditional anime form. My drawings right now, if I were to be honest are probably like 2 tiers under his older drawings. However his progress really puts it into perspective. Just gotta keep drawing, 🤙🏾.

Isayama not only brought me my favorite Anime/tv series of all time but he inspired me on so many things. Like, even if you arent good in drawing, you could succeed if your writing is good.

Say what you want, but the guy is unique and talented. The way he draws movement and horrified expressions is just great. And the style lends to the creepiness and uncanny valley of the titans.

I have the old art style in my manga and my brother asked me “would you buy the other books so it looks better” and I said “I will never replace the ones I own. Yes the art style isn’t great but that show how far the author (I know his name but I can’t spell and don’t want to butcher his name) has come and I feel I would be disrespecting his progress if I replace them. And it’s really fun to read the first book all the way to vol 29 and so the astonishing progress. It truly is amazing.

Man if you watch some interviews about Isayama he said he was rejected a lot because of how poor his art was, it's insane how he somehow managed to improve it so much although to me at least his old art style was a little bit more expressive.

The new one looks more expressive imo. You can see how eren looks more desperate/shockec in the new one in 0:01. In the second one, you can see how hannes' face is filled with fear and eren also looks like he really wants to go back and save his mom.

My opinion on what style I like more (even tho no one asked): 0:01 Old 0:10 New 0:20 Old 0:30 New 0:39 New 0:49 Both equally good 0:59 New 1:08 New 1:18 Old Isayama really improved, no doubt! He got better in terms of details, anatomy and shading but still sometimes I preffer the simplified version. For example at 0:20 the expression of the character is delivered clearer and doesn't need more details. Also on the new one there's too much happening with the woods she's carrying, so detailed it can be a bit confusing, the old one defines the branches perfectly. All just my perception of course, you might see it differently and that's good, art is always subjective :)

0:29 Even in the old art, he still colored according to the action line, which makes the pose a lot morr expressive and dynamic. This drives home the argument that technical know-how always has room for improvement, as long as you have the creative mind to get your ideas across.

Not sure I am using the right word here, but feel like there is a nostalgia when looking at the old art. Makes me think about when Attack on Titan was still brand new all the way back even in like 2013. Now it's 2021, and his art did seriously get better!! (Not that it was crap before! He did improve a lot though). And now the manga is over. So seeing the older pics reminds me when the series was still so new.🙏🏼
