Today we are going to look at the differences between the old or railraod version of the hornby HAA wagon and the new more recently tooled Hornby MGR HAA wagon. Weigh up the options for rolling stock for my class 58 model locomotives, and compare the prices for both the old and the new in this Old vs New video.

🌠🚂Hi and welcome to Aidan's Railways🚂🌠
✅1st: My channel is aimed at adult model makers and collectors of railway related models.
✅2nd: My channel also covers visits to railways around the U.K. in various gauges.
✅3rd: My channel also covers events that myself and my brother attend in relation to his classic car collection.
✅ Aidans railways is a channel where i shall bring you reviews of railway related models, the construction of various layouts in different gauges (OO, OO9, N, O & G).
✅For years i have collected models, locomotives, rolling stock and scenery with the plan to build Aidan's Railways.
✅I have used the term "Railways" because there will ultimately be more than one railway and in various gauges.
✅I have a real passion for railways and model making.
💖So follow me as i go through reviewing my stock, New Purchase's, Constructing the Railways and getting Inspiration from our Days out and visiting railways and related locations💖

Great video Aidans Railways on the Hornby MGR HAA Wagons. But I love the Graffiti wagon as it adds some much more characters to it.

Yes i remember seeing them running and they were often covered in grafiti. Definitely adds character . Cheers

I bought one new triple pack, then hunted down a dozen more of the older wagons and, as you said, once they are filthy it is hard to tell them apart.

Hi Dave. Absolutely. I now have something like 23 of the HAA hoppers including both the new and old tooling. Weathered up and loaded it is hard to tell when they are travelling around. Cheers

Good video Aidan I need to get hold of some more hopper wagons to go with my old hornby 58

Hi David. Definitely. I would love to get a nice long rake for both of my 58's but i'll settle for one long rake if i can do it. Cheers mate

The same crazy prices also go for the Hornby HEA railfreight hopper wagons. The ordinary ones are relatively cheap but the red railfreight are a lot more.
@AidansRailways
@AidansRailways Жыл бұрын
It would appear the red ones are somewhat in demand. Got to say I have since purchased many more New and Old variants to create some very long trains. Cheers

Excellent review. Some good points raised here, I have noticed the 2nd hand prices for model railway stuff seems to have increased drastically. BR Railfreight/Sectorisation is one of my main interests and the older Hornby models like the MGR hoppers and vans are commanding strong money on a certain auction site, even the Hornby 37s and 47s (pre Lima tooling) are going for really daft money! Hopefully when lockdown eases and model shops re-open prices will get back to sensible levels. You did well on getting the used hoppers for that price.
@AidansRailways
@AidansRailways 3 жыл бұрын
Hi Dave. You get it totally. I do love a bit of the sectorisation. I remember it fondly. I have over the years looked at the old Lima models which are still very good but the second hand market has just exploded recently with prices so close to that of new. You start to ask yourself if you should just buy new or get second hand only when it's an absolute steal. I admit i was very lucky to have walked in to the shop and not only found four but at an excellent price. Hopefully like you say when lockdown eases over time so will the second hand prices. Cheers Dave

I bought my 24 red frame hoppers over 10 years ago, all second hand for less than £3 a pop, would never dream of paying £20 for one! I am more than happy with the old detail!
@AidansRailways

Ah if only I had managed that. Unless a unbelievable group of bargains appear I think I’ll be buying new. Cheers 👍

Hi Ben Great video well edited Some of the details you are not going to notice in my opinion But it nice it there Same with locos I guess but hey what do I know Keep safe arp
@AidansRailways
@AidansRailways 3 жыл бұрын
Hi Adi. I think in this case with the hoppers, visually when they are running there is not a lot in it really. Loco's well we all like to stare at them when they are or are not running so more detail needed on them i think haha. Cheers mate

Hi there 😊good review and I agree with you about this subject. I don't really care about the details tooo much. When they are running a rake weathered looks quite good. I'm not buying new ones but second hand HAAs still hold a price. I bought an EFE class 58 so I'll watch what you think of them. Cheers

Hi Guy. Yes we have two of the EFE class 58's. In fact on the @Aidansrailways Extra's channel we have a number of shorts of them running with both Hornby new and old HAA hoppers. We also have a brief review of those 58's on our main channel here. They are a lovely well built model. Cheers

Hi Aidan - I hope you are well and a good comparison, it is a difficult choice do you pay £20 for a more detailed version or less for the older version and accept at normal viewing distance it would be hard to tell the difference. But the cost of pre owned seems to have increased and there is not too much difference between the prices now. Keep Safe........Cheers Kev
@AidansRailways
@AidansRailways 3 жыл бұрын
Hi Kev. Yes this is exactly the point. The price second hand is soooo close to new that in my opinion unless you find a real bargain like the four I managed to obtain realistically I may as well buy the new. Thank you for watching and getting in touch. Stay safe, cheers

hi aidan. some good points there. but ten for the price of three depends on the size of your wallet i think. as you say running round the layout will you notice ? i dont know. good video though cheers tom.
@AidansRailways
@AidansRailways 3 жыл бұрын
Hi Thomas, well i'm glad you could see my point within the video about the prices. If i could pick a full rake up at those low second hand prices i would in a heart beat. The problem i see is the second hand market at the moment seems to know how sought after these are and is keeping the prices really quite high. The four i got were at what i think is a great price for second hand but when on the internet auction sites you see groups of three selling for almost the same price as new. It's madness. Cheers Thomas

Good morning....It would be great to know the Hornby R numbers for those MGR wagons. I have two very old R.249 MGR wagons with the red framework (not yellow). They are in immaculate condition and never been out of their boxes. Could you let us know those reference nos.?....just for reference/knowledge....All the best kiddo. P.S. Nice sunny weather at moment...12.02pm.

Hi Martin, the four older ones are three numbers according to the boxes. R039, R033 & R249. The newer one being R6961. Hope this helps
