That guy's story is so amazing! Imagine growing up with that car in your garage for your whole life! And so awesome that he *didn't restore it to a factory-perfect '68 Mustang -- leave it in the condition it was in after the movie was made. Excellent!

It doesn't, because no one will ever be as cool as Steve McQueen, and the Kiernan family for that matter! I used to live on Taylor Street, near Union, where the "downhill" part of the chase scene was filmed. Growing up in North Beach, I used to see TV and movie crews film cars stunts there.

I bought my 68 mustang coupe in 1977 .Early 68, built in 67. 1st sold December 67. Palm Springs ca car. Nice original unmolested car.i was 18. Paid 500 dollars for it. Which was a lot more money than today. Was a fair price. It was 9 years old. 289 v8, factory AC, power steering and manual 4 wheel drums. Has the optional hood with the turn signals in it. Looks cool at night! I still have it, still on the road. In really nice shape in and out.cant believe it just turned 50 years old ! Or that I just turned 59 ! People ask if I'll sell. NO WAY! It's part of the family.

they should have redone the lights, round in front and tripple bars at the back , satin/non metalic paint would of be nicer as well

I’ll say that the new bullitt mustang does look really good but it doesn’t compare at all to the original. That mustang started the movie car chases. It pioneered American muscle cars and skyrocketed mustang sales during that time period

I like the Bullitt, so I went to my local dealer to price one out. They wanted 10k over MSRP! I would have been OK with MSRP, but $10,000 over?! No way

Regarding the '68 GT...when I was in H.S. in the early 70's, I had a buddy who had a heyland green '68 GT 390 4 speed car...it would smoke the tires on demand but when I raced him in my bone stock '67 Pontiac Lemans with the 326 HO Engine (Rated at 280 H.P.) 3 speed on the floor, I walked away from him...the '68 Mustang GT 390 in stock trim was a real dog.

I know the original Bullitt car is a historical vehicle and restoring it would destroy its history, but it is still sad to see the old gal sitting there all beat and rusty, and abused, especially next to the shiny new Bullitt Mustang. My heart kind of goes out to her and wishes she could be made proud and beautiful again. Still its good to know she actually survived. It's amazing to think Steve McQueen himself actually sat in that faded, ripped drivers seat.

Hard to improve on the looks of the original!

New one is nice and all, but i am sorry, i can only be interested at the original. It just has that magic that new shiny car can never have. Even if you would be able to drive the new one to the moon and back i still prefer the original. Just to be able to see that car in real life sometimes would be dream come true for me. So happy to see that the owner hasn't ruined it by painting it and restoring it more than that.

Does anybody know the color of the back panel, is it green or black? It is always so hard to see, on modelcars it is random even on cars from the same brand. On pictures of Bullitt it also random, I want to know how it is on the original car so I can do my custom car correct.

I sell engineering plastics for a living. Remember, Ford just assembles the vehicle. There are literally hundreds of component suppliers of everything from the IP panel, airbags, wiring, wheels ,etc.

Too bad the Ford Dealers are charging well over MSRP even if you are telling them to order one versus taking one from their lot inventory. I would have ordered 2 of them but because of the Ford Dealers, I've pulled out.

Leaving 559 in its original condition was a good idea. I've heard that 558 is still around. How much is it worth? Comparison of the old one and the new ONE, there's no comparison, the 68 isn't remotely in the class of the New ONE!

Here you have two extremities of attitude and technology illustrated.. One, the original Bullitt Mustang, defiant of it's slightly neglected care- all the better in light of historic true grit preservation- and the "I'm gonna fix it up one day" persoonia of it's owner. Accolades to the family who had a vison, if not for the sake of their own selfish merits, the car has survived. The other, a high brass executive whose temperament is all derived from marketing and flash with little conciseness of what was unfolding here. With the passing of 50 years the enigma of legend- a dumpy beefed up Falcon addressed a market awaiting a car. In 1964 I believe 65% of the population were under 17. Only a few years onward and well over a million Mustangs sold, everyone who walked out of the theaters in 1968 knew the real star of the movie wasn't the admirable McQueen- but one 68 fastback. True car geeks know that no tire squeeecking, body rolling, swaggering wild horse is going to keep pace with a gallant Charger. No matter-you always sell the sizzle--not the steak. In retrospect from the cinematic view, other than The French Connection or perhaps To Live and Die in LA films like Corvette Summer, Vanishing Point and Gone is 60 seconds are no comparison to one particular chase scene that made a movie. And now they are naming limited edition cars after it? Just maybe if Dynacore- or whatever the company that is reproducing the first generation Mustangs, would come out with their own version of a Bullitt Mustang- with angle iron affixed to the frame rails- i'd be more prone to order one of them before that ego based induced blob of a Mustang.

Sorry but these dealer markups are ridiculous. This is a glorified gt with some chrome, special badging, and minor engine tweaks. Sure not worth anywhere near the ridiculous prices I've seen some of these dealers asking for it. I'd buy a gt350 or base c7 vette for what some are wanting for this car, and have a better car all the way around with either car

Can't get into the new body style. '05-'09 was pretty faithful to the original. '10-'12 not quite as nice, '13-'14 has the GT500 look, again, not as nice. Then '15 happened. Good grief. They need to clean house at Ford. Stocks have been dropping steadily since 2014 and have not come up since. I don't really care how much horsepower they put into these. As long as it's similar to the original Bullitt, I'd take the original look over power any day.

2008 is by far the best Bullitt that Ford will ever build.

Effort was made but falls short. 1. Rims are terrible 2. Red brake calipers are an eyesore 3. Zero ground clearance is just thoughtless 4. Badge on back is the opposite of McQueen cool
