Awesome picks, though I’ve not delved into any of Eazy-E’s solo stuff. There was a time before I got into punk that Rap/Hip-Hop was my wheelhouse. Fat Boys’ 1984 self-titled 12” is still in my top 10. I’ve been heavily into Deep & Northern Soul lately, almost obsessed. These 3 singles fueled the fire…. The Epitome Of Sound - You Don’t Love Me Little Tommy - Baby Can’t You See The Fascinations - Girls Are Out To Get You I’m a singles guy anyway, so I don’t mind wanting to track them down …and buy them with an unforeseen inheritance or winning lottery ticket.

Great selections, Richie Aretha's Atlantic output is pretty much flawless. Curtis, Otis, Marvin - they wrote the book. I'm glad you included some blues. The Howlin' cover is great. That's the cleanest copy of There It Is that I've seen. Now why did you put Prince in Time Out; leave him in the corner? You have a Dirty Mind,!

Great picks Richie! NWA's ''Straight Outta Compton'' was a revelation for me. I bought it when it first came out, and played it everywhere I went, mostly on my Walkman but also in my car and at the beach. It took me out of my routine of listening to The Grateful Dead and Jazz. I was happy that all my friends enjoyed it too, which was sort of a surprise. Tip of the hat goes to Stevie Wonder for helping make Martin Luther King Day, a national Holiday. Another tip of the hat to Stevie Wonder for playing drums with Hendrix on his BBC sessions. ''Songs In The Key Of Life'' is one of my favorite albums by a Black Artist.

Great video, Richie. What can I say? You are so effortlessly cool. Always with unique records and with something interesting to say about each one. That Curis Mayfield album is brilliant (As is his first record). Both are more difficult to find than they should be. And those two Howling Wolf albums are essential. I’m with you on James Brown’s Talking Loud (and saying nothin). There is a killer workout of the song on the CD compilation Funk Power. Its on KZfaq. It’s unedited and worth hearing if you dig the track. Thanks for blazing your voice and music across VC. Cheers!

War albums are great, they were even better live and influenced many bands in SoCal. That long sax solo on the world is a ghetto inspired me to get deeper into jazz. I Never Loved a Man was a breakthrough, the later Young Gifted and Black is also a fave. All good picks.

Black Artists? Don't get me started. There's so many great ones. I suppose that's their greatest contribution to humanity their music more so than any other race..... LOL that Grits and Soul was a big disappointment Pat. After grooving the Live at The Apollo album the next one I got was that Grits and Soul. I had no idea it was an instrumental album which really pissed me off. LOL... I'd of had a lot of early 50s rocker bands in any list I'd make up.
