While we’re away at Warhammer World playing The Old World, we have this video ready for you! Welcome back to another battle report from Mediocre Hobbies! This time we decided to bring you the glorious Bretonnians, fighting for the Lady, with all the knights you’ve seen in painting tutorials over the last few months. They face off against Tim’s Dark Elves, which is a pdf Legacy army in The Old World…but will that matter? Hope you enjoy the report and let us know who you’d like to see right next! A charging unit must move by the shortest route possible. Your Pegasus knights would not have moved to the other end of that unit to attack the sorceress.

You lances still get the lance bonus as they count as charging when you pursue vs a unit that falls back in good order. They don't for giving ground though. As per recent FaQ it was clarified.

After destroying the cold ones you need to make a "restrain and reform" leadership test unless the grail knights have a rule that makes them automatically pass Ld tests. Great batrep btw.

When you destroyed the unit of knights on dinosaurs, the unit next to them should have make a panic test. That's "nearby friend destroyed", page 161. No panic test is required when taking losses during a charge. That's page 120. Your unit of knights of the realm did not flee. However the kills from stand and shoot would have counted in combat resolution. Remember than a wound saved with regeneration still counts for combat resolution. That's page 176. That was a lovely battle report ! For the Lady ! Did you try fielding units of 10 knights (I always see you with lances of 6). That's less hurtful to lose 4 of them with shooting than when fielding 6 of them, having a wound buffer like that. But that's less units overall, so a tradeoff. I like choices. Did you envision the possibility to issue a challenge with your duke when charged by executioners to avoid the rain of attacks with cleaving blow ?

Lances do have armour bane 1 so when your grail knights rolled 2 6s it should of been -3 instead of -2, your damsel can still cast and dispel whilst the unit is in combat and doesnt have to be on the outside of the formation, heres the rule for pursuit and catching the enemy Catching The Curs! Once the unit being pursued has completed its move, the pursuing unit is moved. If the pursuing unit makes contact with the pursued unit, it has caught its enemy and halts: • If the enemy unit is fleeing, it is hacked to pieces and immediately removed from play, exactly as if it had been run down by a charging unit. The pursuing unit may then attempt to reform, as described on page 129. • If the enemy unit Fell Back in Good Order, the units become engaged in combat once more, becoming locked in place until the next player’s turn when the combat will continue. During the next turn, the pursuing unit counts as having charged. So Tim was right when you chased him down, you stop when you reach them

A damsel embedded in a Lance formation unit in combat is still in combat, even if she's not on the fighting rank. She cannot dispel. The Shield of the Lady rule just says she can cast spells as if the model was in the fighting rank (so only assailment and self spells, because she's in combat).

Yes models in base contact with them can choose to target characters. Not sure about unit champions.

Love the video (and the editing) Old World isn't for my smoth brain, but watching gameplay is fun than 40K and equivalents for some reason. PS: If you somehow get a unit of them (or 3D print them, people price them like they are made of gold), I would love to see you paint Dark Elf Knights on cold ones, for me they are one of the best "old" models GW designed.

I find WFB/TOW more watchable than 40k as with a game focused on singular blocks and less shooting, there's less "messy/unseen" things going on. It's visually easy to follow the layout and intent of everything a lot better than 40k.

@@Retrosicotte Also at 1.5K and even 2K there's like 4-6 units (unless it's some gobbo spam or some trash on purpose list) Both 40K and AoS should get a points hike, there's to much shit you can field at 2K ( 40K loadout cost helped to reduce the unit bloat on table, but the designers thinks we are crayons for luch or something )

I like the dynamics of the report. Unfortunately so many play errors... Apart from what was already said, infantry charging bretonian lord should move as the DE player intended. The unit had no movement to make bigger than corner-to-corner contact

Yea we are still learning the rules fully hard to remember everything. Think at this point we only played 5 games. We learned a good bit from the tournament in warhammer world so hopefully less errors. For the next game

If you're gonna bring only token pesants, 10 archers is only 10 points more than 10 men at arms 3 with champion for men arms). Personally ive not brought less than a full 40 brick of men at arms, but if you're gonna go for full cav might as well have your 1 trash unit of pesants do some damage. also you can take casualties from the inside of lances, it explicitly says so in the lance rules

Questing knights still have shields for shooting attacks, you made plenty of those armour saves from the magic missile

Great battle report, really enjoyed it. Do Questing Knights have a 4+ as standard? Heavy armour 5+ > with shields 4+ > with barding 3+. At -1 one only 3 wounds would have gone through to the ward save and you passed 2 of those!

15:28 Unless your knights have movement 9, you cant get to 18 for a charge, your maximum Charge range is capped at Movement +6 and +3 for Swift Stride (so Movement 8 -> max charge range 17)

I know he didn't charge with the two units of knights in the end in his first turn but I thought you can only declare a charge in your maximum charge distance which would be 17" so the unit that was 18" away can't charge or are we doing it wrong?

Good batrep but I think you undersold your Questing Knights. Don't forget they have HW+shield so have the same 3+ save at range (or if you don't want to use GWs in combat). I think sending them in alone against the front of those DE swordsmen was a bad move, all it did was cost you a unit's worth of VPs and 2CR instead of just letting the enemy front rank just... not fight anyone. I'm also not sure if you were applying their WS5 when the enemy was hitting them back on 3's.

I think at least pegasus knight don't have the line of sight so they cannot charge the crossbow men am I right? And probably the third one is blocked between the monster and the forest, so I think an irregular charge

Guys at 8:25 why only 3 shooters could shoot? Some of them could see because of forest, the rest of them,on the right was not in range?if yes I think it was 7 to hit ( 6 and after 4+). Starting with BS 4 so hit on 3s, plus move, long range, multi shot and soft cover. 😀

Love your work, but If I could make a suggestion for a possible different style of battle report to consider in the future? It can be a little hard to follow everything in these longer videos. Would you ever try doing faster reports by just showing us overviews of completed phases, instead of showing everything as it happens?

I belive the shoot penalty should have been 6 not 5. Long range, Move, Multiple -3 =6 to hit for Bs3.

I never really thought about it because it’s very common for UK and Ireland to know their heraldry/family crest. If there’s any way to research your background/family name a bit you should be able to find something?

What do you mean your men at arms unit is taken so you can play? Can't you do a full mounted force then?

Nop, per Bretonia's army rules you need to take 1 unit of peasants per 1K points. But there's options for cheap (mainly peasants with ranged weapons) that are so cheap and you care so little for them that "full mounted" is a possibility

@@ismael9914 You can actually make a full mounted list by taking the Errantry Crusade army list. You get the following benefits : - Possible to be full mounted, no need for any peasant ! - +1 to charge movement/range on all your knight units - Veteran on all your knight units (reroll any leadership test except break test) - Bonus victory points if knights errants take banners - Knight errant get rerolls on 1 to hit if they are close to a knight character / grail knights You however get the following malus : - All your knight units are impetuous - You need to field 1+ Knight errant unit per 1000 points (-1 WS than KotR, cannot counter charge, cannot have magic item on champion, otherwise the same) - 33% core minimum instead of 25% - You need to include at least 1 paladin (can be your BSB) I am using the erranty crusade army list and it's a lot of fun. The full impetuous is not that bad, especially if like me you don't care about winning. It's about glory !

I play DE and I'm little skeptical about bretonia (and some others). How to deal against auto destroy if charged ? We cant play only black guard. Magic and shoot dont enought strong vs flying and armored knight. But, why DE are so outnumbered here ? They just have little sorceres in hero. Where is the point budget ?

Watching that first turn perfectly illustrates why I am only cut out to watch this game and never ever play it... Bretonnia gets all the good rolls. DE player gets all the s..t ones. Luck is far too great a variable in TT.

I'm having serious reservations about these rules atm. As demo'd here, missile fire and war engines is so under-powered, seem all but pointless... the armies winning are hard charging, move quick (or fly) and launch multiple charges on your terms... with characters/monsters/heavy cav, etc. Game balance doesn't feel right... shouldn't the game encourage more than a 1D approach? Notably, an army of exclusive heavy cavalry wipes out a more balanced army (bit of everything) in 3-4 turns... bit depressing if this is the way the game goes.

Missile fire and war machine are good if you use them right. Took two bolt thrower and some dwarf rangers and they destroyed three different bretonnians armies. In the old world tournament.

It’s not. Nothing you are worried about proved true during our tournament. 60 players and. All different armies. Chaos warriors and tomnkings were top table last round.

@@MediocreHobbies Experiences may differ... but in our games, the hardest charging are winning... and I'm not interested in the tourny scene, only good games at home... house rules required. Also, Chaos Warriors? so few missile troops, few/no war engines then? ;-) Viola!

I think that in the future it will turn out that many characters of the Old World, such as Karl Franz, Settra and Gotrek - are women and "always have been”.
