Thank goodness there is always a nerd in our riding group that just sends the gpx file.

I was using Gaia for a while, but the crashes were too much for me. I went back to OSMandMaps Great rundown on how to use GPX files and sort out a plan. Nice one mate.

Thank you for taking the time to make and share this. I used a BMW Nav 6 last year in mountains in northern Spain. The routes/tracks that I had uploaded all started in an inaccessible street (my bad when planning route on PC 😢) so when we went to follow the route/track it wanted to keep directing either to the start point which we couldn’t get to or straight to the end point which was 100 metres away missing the entire ride. Likewise when we stopped for a coffee halfway round it didn’t “remember” we were halfway round and wanted to restart the route/track again. I’m still learning, Nav 6 now binned but any tips for this problem, which I think is common to a couple of devices gratefully received 👍

Thank you for the video. I am a new GAIA user and still finding my way around the app. I have imported GPX files on my PC and sync'ed them and they pull up fine on my phone. I have converted a map track to route successfully but when I use the GUIDE ME feature, I get another straight line to a random location on the map in addition to the route. What is that line? And is there anyway to get rid of it? Thank you in advance for not laughing at my dumb question.

OsmAnd is Open Street Maps Automated Navigation Directions, not Open Street Maps Android. Also from what I am starting to experience, the apps now seem to all use a similar mapping method (GAIA, OsmAnd Pro, Google Maps), where you just keep dragging points until it follows the route you want.

I am on a quest to merge/connect individual track segments within a GPX file containing dozens or even hundreds of segments, resulting in one long track.

Must admit, since making this video I have switched to using Garmin Connect to create my Tracks, because Gaia, while I nicer interface, the downloaded file is actually a route rather than a track. However, whichever app you decide to use to create the track, you can always run the file through www.gpsvisualizer.com/convert_input to create a clean GPX Track. You're right, though; there's usually someone in every group who is like me who enjoys the process, so they spend more than a fair amount of time researching and testing methods to come up with the best process. It is a bit finicky, and as yet, there is no perfect system.

Vern, 3 weeks ago the Garmin Zumo XT was on sale at AMX stores, $200 off so I bought one. I haven't yet taken it out of the box as I've been watching so many youtube vids on how to use it. Talk about confusing and conflicting information. So much so that I'm contemplating returning it. After watching yours, I'm still on the dark side. Obviously my old brain just can't grasp technology. Just shoot me now.

I get it. It can be intimidating but a skill worth developing. It uses an Android-based system from memory, so if you plug it in via the USB while it's turned on, it should just come up as another drive on the computer. But if you get completely stuck, I'll buy it off you. 😜 I need one.

@@MotoRidesAustralia I'll keep that in mind. Reason I bought it is because I was in the Watagans 5 weeks ago and somehow got off the route I had planned. No mobile service so couldn't see where I was. I'm sure there will be plenty more times this will happen. I'll give it a try and if I 'm not happy with it, I'll contact you.

I'm looking at buying a Zumo at the moment, but after watching how easy??? it is to use, l think i'll stick to my paper maps. You lost me in the first 20 steps on what you did, and l don't have any kids or grandkids to help me with something like this. Sorry, old man here.

Nothing wrong with paper maps, that's for sure. Once you do it a few times, it gets easier and it you find what method works for you. Everything I've learnt has been from just trying it out and being comfortable and patient with getting it wrong. Everytime you fail something, you've learnt something, and technology is forgiving.
