The 2023 Weaver Wander road run for classic cars and later sports-cars (mainly) took place on May 20th 2023. For this year the cars gathered at the Crewe Vagrants Sports Club just outside Nantwich in Cheshire, from where they set off on one of three route options before returning to the same location later in the day. We decided to pop along and watch the cars arrive, before taking a walk around and close look at the classic cars before they and their owners headed off. Two of the routes were of 80 miles each, the other of 50 miles.
Fortunately the weather for this year's Weaver Wander was on our side and a very enjoyable couple of hours was spent admiring the varied line-up of cars in attendance. As you might expect given the channel's name and theme, the older cars are the main focus of this upload but I have tried to include some later cars to give a broad overview of the event's entries this year.
In addition to the post-war classic cars it was good to see a few pre-war entries, these included an Alvis 12/50, an Austin 7 box saloon, an Austin Big 7, and a Ford Model A. The Weaver Wander this year was particularly well supported by owners of classic Triumphs and quite a variety were entered, joining various MGs, Porsches, Jaguars and many more. Perhaps the most unusual car taking part was a rare rotary-engined Mazda RX3, a chat with this car's owner is included in the video.
After all the cars had left, we drove in the direction of Nantwich and spotted a few of the cars driving along, as front seat passenger in our car I was able to grab a few seconds of footage. I also managed to grab a clip of a fantastic Ford GT40 rep in full Gulf livery driving along, the sound was something else.
The video rounds out with a quick look at a surprise package that was waiting for us back at OCC HQ, and a mini-tour of my youthful assistant's workshop ("Ned the Shed") and his latest acquisitions.
This is the second time I've done a video about the Weaver Wander, I'll include a link to the 2022 event at the end of this one.

Oh boy that RX-3 is a whopper🤩❤I’d pick that alone for the pure vintage JDM style! Love those old Ford Escort Mexico editions too! Your MX-5 is a great little car, I had a chance to drive a drifting spec one here in Japan, 2-way diff the whole nine yards and it was a little snapper to the max 😂 great vid!! Two thumbs up 👍 👍

Yes the RX-3 is a cool car, I have seen it before at shows but not for a while. There were quite a few MX5s at a show yesterday, Mk1s and Mk2s mainly.

Excellent video as always. Love that early Morris 1100. That's the sort of car I like to see at shows. I'm less keen on seeing so many Triumph Stags these days? Sometime at my local shows there are so many it's like a single-make show. I suppose it doesn't matter unless there's a space restriction, but I sometimes think that if you've seen one Stag you've kind of seen them all.

To be a bit nerdish , this Austin Big 7 four-door sixlite at 47.00 , is the only one I've seen with the number plate above the boot lid that contains a drop-down luggage rack, similar to the Ruby .On a contemporary 1930s Austin film on the entire range , it shows it in the postion as on this car, most of the surviving cars I've seen have a lower hinged assembly on the boot lid.I wonder if the plate was later considered too high ?.Looks like a really great event and perfectly videoed as usual !.

Another cracking video as usual, great to see the little Austin 1100 and the Nissan 300 was a very unusual sight. Many thanks for your efforts😊

What a great event, were you not tempted to take part in one of the run outs? Being a long term Stag owner it was great to see so many, I think is counted 15 Stags. lovely work, cheers Bob

We'll probably have a go at it one day, when I've got something running reliably, although I've never used tulip diagrams for directions so that could be interesting ...

Excellent video and I loved going down memory lane in Harley's shed! I remember the Castrol/Wakefield Oils reference charts and booklets. So many Triumphs at the meet - do they breed up there in Cheshire? The Austin 10 was the star, although hearing the GT40 accelerate off into the distance was a bonus.

As normal, many wonderful vehicles to look at on a glorious days weather. The highlights for me were all the Austin's. The Maestro is becoming rare & what a nice example. The 7's were really good examples including the Big 7. The 10 with the dicky seat was exceptional. For me, I also am a fan of Austin Healey's & A30's. I have owned a 100/4 BN1 & a Sprite Mk2. The Mk2 you never see these days. They were real rot boxes & I suppose none are left. All people wanted were the Frog Eye Mk1's. For such a lovely event it was odd not to see any Morris Minors, or A30/35's. Come to think of it, Jowett Jupiter sports cars have a very high rate of survival, but one never sees them at rally's. Why do you suppose this is?

There certainly seem to be fewer A35s, Minors and indeed Jowetts at shows like this, we've commented on this between ourselves before now

Triumph Stags must be breeding, a purple Stag was the must have car back in the 70"s a friend of mine had one a beautiful looking vehicle. Sunday morning brekkie monopolised again. Many personal memories brought back to life yet again such as the MK1 Cortina, I had 2 one pre Aeroflow and one with Aeroflow , and the yellow Spitfires. I had one exactly the same colour and also one in white.

That American Edsel car would be very rare now. There weren't many made , because of the companies collapse.

@@oldclassiccarUK Were they Ford. I didn't know that. I thought they were a separate car company. They didn't sell well that's true.

My favourite is the Mg at 34:55 although I’m sure it’s a TA and not a TC. The way to tell is the tread strips on the running boards. The TA and TB have three strips while the wider bodied TC only have two each side.

My humble take home cars has to be the 1, Granada Ghia my weak spot, 2, the cute Morris 1100, and 3, the Anglia Super deluxe. Just a shame they are not all estate versions. As always another knowledgeable video cheers 🍻

They could have put doggy in the dicky seat but he prefers mum's lap I bet. Do cars of that vintage need any sort of seat belts?
@oldclassiccarUK
@oldclassiccarUK Жыл бұрын
Hi they don't need belts legally, and the structure of the cars aren't really designed with the loads that belts would impose in case of a shunt in mind
