I am a single female, and have home, large heart, and family dog to offer. My high-school boyfriend told me about the feelings of being in the foster care system and never being adopted. I now plan on adopting an older child. Seeing this melts my heart and reassures me to adopt.

Omg this warms my heart. I’m a single un married woman. I’m 30 and I would like to adopt an older child. I’d like to have a home paid off and a decent savings available for them so that I can help them be set up to succeed as a young adult

@folk folk If you want a forever home, I am a mom of an 8 year old boy. I'd love to be in your life. You don't deserve what's happening to you. You are loved. You are worthy. If you ever need to talk or a place to stay, let me know. My door will always be open.

As an adoptive mother, if you are going to adopt, I would like to warn you to obtain the complete "Adoptive Telling" before you become attached to your "forever child" One no less than four occasions, we were given lots of time to become attached (although, to tell the truth, it happened for me the moment they were put into my arms). One one occasion, our social worker went M.I.A., we couldn't reach this man anywhere!! It turned out, that, having already adopted one infant who had severe physical & mental issues (Fetal Alcohol Syndrome Effects, inter alia), we said that we didn't want to have more than one severely disabled child for either the state or family members to care for, should anything happen to us. After giving him a (false) ultimatum - he either had to meet with us, "Adoptive Telling" in hand, or we'd return the child to the children's home. It ended in an ugly scene in a public parking lot where he stuffed the "A.T." through the open car window. The child had 2 parents who vowed to fight to get her back or make sure that she went to family & both had paranoid schizophrenia. Our "firstborn" is now a mother herself & has driven me to the edge of suicide. She has 2 more psychiatric diagnosis &, looking back, we realise that, despite legal & medical advice from my colleagues, we were totally taken advantage of. Don't let this happen to you.

I'm 36 no kiddos but I work in mental health as a social worker and the more I watch these videos about older unadopted kiddos, the more I'm drawn to adopt kiddos from this age group. Yes it will be a challenge but I'm up for it. ❤️

I am in the same situation. I work in mental health as a provider, no children & I have decided to enroll in classes to become a foster parent. Everything in my career has been preparing me for this💕

@@folkfolk281 All you have to do is call CHILD PROTECTIVE SERVICES (CPS) & TELL THEM YOU'RE GETTING ABUSED.. THEY'LL COME GET YOU OUT OF THERE.. DO IT.. BUT DO UNDERSTAND, THERE'S POSSIBLE RISKS CHALLENGES THAT COMES WITH BEING ON FOSTER CARE OR ADOPTED..

The problem with people not taking in older kids is the preference for babies and children because they think older kids aren't moldable ..what they fail to realize is that they can still make a HUGE difference in a youths life..these youth still need guidance they need stability they still need to feel accepted despite their age ..and we all need love no matter our age. I hope those considering adoption or becoming Foster parents they will open their eyes that they can change a teenagers life for the better.

My husband and I adopted four children at different times in our life. We love our children they are our babies even though they were adopted at 8, 13, 15, and 16. We are so blessed with them. We have a total of 8 children and if we we younger we might likely have more! Now we are concentrating on our grandchildren as well as our children who are adults ranging from 22-48. So far we have 10 grandchildren with out three youngest yet to start a family. We love our family

I was adopted at 4 years old and a big reason I was ever adopted is because I was young. My life isn’t all sunshine and rainbows but I’m sure it’s better than being in foster care. It’s been 10 years since I was adopted.

It would be wonderful to adopt an older child in foster care. I had a high school friend in foster care who always wanted a forever family. I very much wish to do this.

End goal is to have 2 biological kids and an adopted kid. I told my wife we should look into getting an older kid so that when they age out of the system, they have a family to fall back on.

If you’re thinking about adopting, consider adopting an older child. I was adopted as a baby, but I’ve met people who were adopted when they were older and they connect with their mom and dad in amazing ways. We’ll see what God has planned for me, but I definitely hope she foster and adopt older kids in the future. We’re all in this together. ❤

I will be looking to adopt an older child. I was/am surrounded by many kids who were adopted as well as aunts and families who adopted and fostered many children. Every child is different in processing the trauma of losing or being taken away from their birth parent(s). It's something I'm really nervous about as I've seen the difficulties and how it shows up different in everyone so you really can't be prepared for what will happen. It can be great and it can be tragic but then so is life in general.

The sad part is that some of these teens have a MILE LONG LIST of conditions they are looking for because someone never told them the movies are just movies and that reality is, no its not fun and games every day, no it's not getting what you want when you want it and no, people ""as parents" are flawed and not perfect.

I’m adopted. Adoption comes with problems. I’m 35 and I’m not sure I ever want to have a biological child. I do feel the pull for kids though. Helping someone else level up, you know? I would consider adopting an older kid. Adoption is not all fun and roses. Adoption hurts but there is some healing there too. Maybe my husband and I will look into this

I was a medical professional who, with my husband, decided to foster, then adopt. The strange thing that we discovered in our area was that older children had NO problem being fostered or adopted. It seemed to go against everything that we'd been told. We were told that everyone wanted cute newborns. However, most newborns in California were born with medical problems or were born addicted to at least one substance. One group of women, living on the poverty line each volunteered to foster, then adopt only older children (& each wanted, at least three!). The reason they gave? Older kids can be sent to school for most of the day while foster mom does what she pleases then they don't have to go through the "terrible twos", etc. but only need to wait a relatively short time before they can send young adults into the workplace to help pay household bills......

I’m a single mom with one 11yr old daughter and 3 Shih Tzus. I felt a tug in my heart to adopt a teen…but everyone around me makes it seem as if the teen could be a bad influence on my daughter, says that bc I have yet to parent a teen, I don’t know what I’m up against and all kinds of negative things are said on FB Adoption Support Groups (ie: run aways, stealing, cursing, hating the adoptive family, etc.). Is it naive of me to refuse to believe that all of it is the rule? I know parenting any child with trauma will have its challenges, but I don’t want to believe that teens equal disastrous outcomes…
