I learned how to be an Assistant Ginner in a Murray Gin almost just like this Continental Gin over 3 seasons. We had a main lineshaft to break like the one here at 5:45. A big chunk went through the roof. It would've killed a man if he had been walking by it at that time! It was funny on the last major upgrade they did on that gin; they pulled out the 4 original Murray gin stands & replaced them with ONE Continental 141 stand. It out ginned all four Murray model 90's combined! Also the gin I'm talking about only ginned 10 bales an hour on good days. It wasn't steam powered like this one. It ran on twin diesel engines. When they upgraded the gin to all electric; they sold those twin diesel engines to a tugboat company who acquired them to run on a tugboat that runs on the Gulf of Mexico the last I heard. They put in two electric motors to replace the diesel twins; one motor was a 200 HP & the other one was a 150 HP. I would've hated to have to have paid their electric & natural gas bills from Sept - December every year! They used Natural Gas in the two burners to heat the two dryer towers.

It's not steam. It's a fairbanks morse 32e diesel.

My Grandpa lost his two little fingers on his left hand in a Moss Lint Cleaner at the Hollywood Gin in Hollywood, MO in 1974. He only got a $2400.00 settlement!
