Great pod guys. listening to other POVs on this, seems like first half dutch were man-for-man in midfield which meant we could create space and drive forward. End of second half they changed up and sorted the mid-block which put us back to normal playing patterns and waiting for an (amazing) last minute winner. Will be interesting to see how we set up and come out against Spain.

i dont think people realize how solid the England defense have been tbh. we've only had smashers and a deflection into the path of someone scored past us Spain will struggle against us and i think we will win the game. fair play if im wrong but thats my gut feeling

Spain has only conceded 3 goals, one of them their own, and has scored 14, compare that with England. And if you also compare the rivals that the two have faced, it is almost laughable to say something positive about England.

The Gudjohnssons didn’t play together for the national team. Ediur was subbed on for his dad as the Icelandic FA wanted them to play together on home soil. Unfortunately Arnur got injured shortly after and they never got to play together in the national team

If Kane gets injured there and his tournament is over because a player has gone in with his studs up I do think we'd be saying that should have been a foul. Thankfully Kane wasn't injured but the possibility was there because of the way he's gone in. However it's still 'dangerous' play - and that's how the referees interpret foul play these days therefore it's a clear penalty.

Most people after the second game to sub Kane and use Watkins I've been saying it it obvious. But you can bet you're bottom dollar he will start Kane on the final and I think it a huge mistake.

Every team that England plays is bigged up before the game as a serious threat, then relegated to weak status and forgotten as soon as England get past them. Belgium in 1990. Spain in 1996. Colombia in 2018. Germany in 2021. Switzerland and Netherlands in 2024.

Yes you have to report things as you see them when it comes to performances, but I believe a huge problem that's been troubling the England team over the last 40 years is that they're so afraid of messing up due to the press response. It shows because if they'd lost in the group, they'd have been laid into by the press. Therefore they're cagey, taking less risks etc. However against the Dutch, everyone was expecting us to lose, suddenly they don't have to fear losing because it's almost expected, so they're confident they aren't going to be the individual that gets hounded for letting the nation down. So, yes you have to report as you see it, BUT you can choose to do that in a neggy way or choose to focus on what the boys are capable of and that you believe that they and the manager are capable of making things happen next time. Until the press accept they have a huge impact on the game and their negativity infiltrates the next game, England will never achieve their full potential. You are not your emotions, you can choose to be positive or negative, make the right choice.

A classic VAR pen. Everyone could see there was contact, and those kinds of collisions usually result in a freekick elsewhere on the pitch. The rules nowadays reward feigning serious injury when you get a knock. Rolling around on the floor and screaming like a child does more or less force a VAR decision. The benefit of the doubt is virtually never given to the player who initiates the contact in the area (whether or not it's deliberate, reckless, dangerous, or soft) and I don't think it's in the spirit of the game which is still a contact sport. Accidental contact should not be considered a foul unless it endangers an opponent, and that has to be worse than simply putting your foot out (though it was studs up). It was more of a foul (i.e., not a foul) on Rice before the first goal. I actually still think England would have equalised, though, as they hit the post and had one cleared off the goal line soon after the pen. The Dutch can't blame the ref for going out. They were unlucky to lose Depay that was their main goal threat actually.

I agree, but the defender had his studs showing, which i think is the problem, the foul as in rugby too is always on the defender, which I don`t agree with, who defends the defender from being hurt? The emphasis is always on the non ball carrier to tackle safe. I justify it with what if Kane slipped, headed or came down, he effectivly would have hit those studs. In this Tournament I have seen many free kick given for less, I personally wouldn`t have given it, but i`m not an international ref. Even the American VAR lady they have was shocked. but hey that`s football, and I know it`s England but ANY would have taken that. Yes he kicked him but he put himself in a dangerous position to be kicked, therfore he is in the wrong.

To be honest when I saw the foul I thought it was not only a penalty but a red card. But now I guess we cannot gauge the power with which Dumfries hit Kane so we cannot judge it. We also don’t know to what degree Kane acted .
