Olga Kurylenko stopped by the Variety Studio presented by Dubai Film Festival and Empire to talk about her film “The Death of Stalin” and how shooting it brought her back to childhood.
“To play a Russian character, even though it is a satire, in a film that takes place in the country I was born was very interesting,” Kurylenko said. “And I had to play piano which took me back to my days when I lived back in the country. To play onscreen, it was great to be able to use those skills I learned as a little kid.”

She is soooooo underrated. I think many see her as the "pretty one" but she's actually a really good actress and we gonna see her in more serious roles in the future. Mark my words

She did a great job in The Death of Stalin. Her tussle with Paddy Considine over the record was great. "This is unauthorised narcissism!"

Her part was the greatest (and possibly the only) BS in that movie.
@squamish4244
@squamish4244 Жыл бұрын
@@hereitcomes3912 The real person she is playing actually did that, except in the 1940s, in the middle of the war. The note said everything that it did in the movie. Stalin read the note and just laughed and threw it away. He was so random in his hatreds, almost always he would instantly kill people who said those things, but sometimes he didn't care. He would kill some musicians for no reason and leave others alone. The same with poets, authors, playwrights - it was totally random who lived and who died. And sometimes someone's worked bothered him, but he liked them enough otherwise to let them be, like Bulgakov. Maybe he liked her music enough to let her live. Who knows what goes on in the mind of a nutjob like him.

I love that slightly Asiatic look that she has, she's obviously European, but with a bit of an Asian twist. That look is pretty common in Russia, Ukraine, in some of the ex-Soviet "-stan" countries, and among some of the Uralic people of Scandinavia.

I think she was the only Russian actor in this film... For some reason I think that is an absolutely inspired casting choice. It's like she's representing all the Russians and Soviets that lived under the regime who finally get to give Stalin his comeuppance.

Obviously her stories about her grandmother - the time depcited in the film - is of the Soviet Union. All those post Soviet states would be able to assert their identities later. (And they've effectively taken back Crimea from Ukraine so it's still a hot button issue.)

I do not have a Russian keyboard and I was responding to the comment "Удивительно плохое произношение " which is simply not true. This is not a question of taste but an opinion based on hearing a plethora of accents by people of different nationalities speaking English in the many countries I used to live in. I can just say that Olga Kurylenko has a much better accent than most of my Russian friends living in New York and her vocabulary is sophisticated and precise. It is unfortunate that the movie has been banned in Russia. Apparently not much has changed there from the time I spent time there many years ago madisdead.blogspot.com/2014/03/off-topic-raw-propaganda.html
