I am amazed how much criticism against Olga? She is entitled to her own interpretation of the piece and I think she has done a fine job and her performance is outstanding. I wonder how many of these so called critics can even play the piano let alone at this level. Maybe these people are just stupid?

Ok, I'm no professional pianist but one of my life's passion is the piano along with other types of musical instruments and music. However, I do feel that this performer is a little too expressive for my taste. I mean, take a look at the final note at 7:05. She basically held her "pose" with her hand stuck in the air in an awkward like position for at least 20 seconds! Now, I totally agree that music should involve the performer sinking their entire heart and soul into each and every note but I feel this performer is perhaps over doing it. Though because of her somewhat "choreographed" style of piano playing, her fans enjoy her artistic performance and in the end, it's what the audience likes most and what makes the most money for the performer and her team.
@langkuai26716 жыл бұрын
Meng Xiong as a piano student I asure you she is not overdoing it. I used to think the same as you until I got more emotions in music as I study. When you feel it you just can't help doing it.
@extradelux80886 жыл бұрын
thats actually kinda true, especially when you invest so much effort into perfecting a song
@finosuilleabhain77816 жыл бұрын
+ Meng Xion ... You might want to compare with her many other videos. She's an expressive artist alright but you need to remember she's Russian. I have a feeling this piece means more to her than most. At worst, you can close your eyes because there's nothing over the top about the playing.

On the contrary, I like her movements. She dances gently, the gestures are probably a deliberate part of her performance, and I think she choreographed it a bit. I do not see it as unnatural, at least not less natural than playing from piano scores. Why not include some choreography as well? Probably also quite healthy as a work out, she keeps her body gently flowing. She will be walking more avidly as an 80-year old than Horowitz ;-) Note that I like it in any way, every pianist has the liberty to develop his or her distinctive style in sound and looks... Horowitz serenity is also beautiful to see. If you want to have it fully natural, I think you need full improvisation, e.g. jazz.

A good performance of a beautiful and difficult piece! IMO, there is a bit of disconnect between Bass & Cleff and the sounds don't diffuse as they should especially in the faster second half. The best performance that I have heard is by Alexander Paley recorded on Brilliant Classic's set of 6 CD's of Complete Balakirev Piano works. Other virtuoso pianists perhaps take this piece lightly and don't spend as much effort on it as they might do on a Chopin or Tchaikovsky.
@viguiergeorges76004 жыл бұрын
J'adore cette version très musicale même si Olga Scheps à tendance à se tortiller un peu trop sur son tabouret, peut-être une nécessité pianistique ou bien un oubli avant de passer en scène!

THE LARK A música The Lark, de Glinka, diz: invisível É o cantor em campo onde canta tão alto Acima de sua companheira, a sensível Cotovia sonora, vai entender num salto. I think this is a beautiful performance of this piece. Yes, of course Kissin's version is better executed but Kissin is one of the worlds best pianists. Quite simply there aren't many pianists better than him today. Any comparison is a little unfair.
@channyeway7 жыл бұрын
I think so as well, kissin is like the modern Mozart or Beetovhen I think that she plays wonderful, because comparing with kissin is just not very fair
@deldridg4 жыл бұрын
Agreed (now 2020!). My teacher (rest her beautiful soul) would have admonished Olga for her prolific use of the 'dying swan' movements but there's no doubting her feeing in this piece. I prefer Kissin's rendition but his facility is from another planet. Olga is certainly much prettier than Mr K but that's just my opinion. :-)
