I have ALL my artwork to either spray varnish or resin (over 100 pieces and growing). I understand the method for cleaning /prepping canvas for either finish, but my concern is with ceramic tile coasters where a bit of silicone was used. I’ve tried gently wiping with alcohol but it began to smear the paint. I can’t use any water or it will wipe the paint completely off the tile😩. I don’t know what to do
@OlgaSoby

I think your best option is to wipe them gently like you did, with Windex and/or Alcohol, and use an isolation coat after

Very cool great tips and tricks. Silicone can be hard to clean off. What I've found that works best is taking a paper towel. Use it to Soak up any silicone oil on your canvas. Then cover the entire canvas with 2 or 3 coats of mod podge. Then after the mod podge is dry you can resin without difficulty and no fish eyes will appear 😊😊😊
@purplepanterachick
@purplepanterachick 4 жыл бұрын
The mod podge doesn't interfere or react with the resin?

nice! Do you find that paper towel removes a lot of silicone?
@naptimecreations
@naptimecreations 4 жыл бұрын
@@purplepanterachick Nope, the mod podge doesn't interact with the resin at all. Its almost like a sealer. I've never had any problems adding resin right on top of the dry mod podge.

@@OlgaSoby I like to use bounty paper towels. To me they're very absorbent. My friend @JOTZdesigns swears by the blue shop paper towels from home depot. She actually uses silicone oil in her resin pours for cells. Then the next day she will wipe the oil off the surface of the resin pour with a blue shop paper towel. Clean it well with a new blue shop towel and 91% isopropyl alcohol then she will do a clear top coat. She doesn't have problems with pits or fish eyes when she does it that way. 😊

It’s been awhile since I’ve been doing any finishes on my paintings, so I thought I would check out one of your prep videos for removing silicone. So glad that I did. I had never heard of a barrier layer before. Such a smart thing to do! I have some Golden gel, so I will definitely be giving that a try. Also I had only ever used straight alcohol, which took off pigment, even when paintings were dry for 4 weeks or more. I love your videos, so informative. So kind of you to share your knowledge too.
