This new generation of O'Pen from Olight has made some major improvements. They lightened the weight and slimmed the body of the pen, making it much more comfortable to use in it's primary function as a writing pen. The LED has been moved to the pocket clip, allowing for hands free use of the flashlight when clipped to a shirt pocket. Finally, the edition of a green laser pointer adds one more function to this pen light. A smooth writing pen, 120 max lumen LED flashlight, and laser pointer all in one, this pen light packs quite a punch.

Fun fact: you can press the small blue button, or probably turn it on/off. Just nice that you can use them both separately, say you need a light and use your pen to write in the dark.

What a times, I have never been in the States and never had a multitool and a flashlight. I watch your channel here in Moscow and bought my first multitool Leatherman Charge G10 Orange and Olight flashlight after your videos. I can tell it’s the best channel about useful EDC stuff all over the whole KZfaq. Keep on going, Ben!

Excellent review! I just received my Blue OPen Pro a few days ago, and I am super impressed with it! It is my first OPen, and, like you Dan, it was finally the clip-mounted LED *PLUS* the Green Laser Pointer feature which reeled me in. Although I'm retired now and only occasionally use a laser pointer, I've been using laser pointers since whenever they first came out (and were expensive and red) in my presentations, lectures, and to point out things in the equipment -- and this OPen Pro's Green Laser does NOT disappoint - it is as good as any green laser pointer that I have ever owned. And, it writes well on paper, too!

Tell Olight to make a light that is directed into the writing surface. Not saying the laser isn’t cool or useful but I’ve never needed one in 48 years . On the other hand I work night shift and use a pen daily in the dark.

Question: if you put the pen in a pen pocket on cargo trousers will it not actuate the bolt upwards and turn the light on? I carry my open2 every day and sometimes hear the bolt clicking as I place or remove the pen from the pocket. Does it have a lockout mode?

I ordered mine today before I saw this. My reasoning comports with yours. You didn't mention the little button inside the cap portion that allows you to use the light and pen functions independently at the same time.

Think i will pick one of these up do they come on accidentally in your pocket? I was also looking to get a rechargeable edc torch trying to decide between a perun mini a baton 3 and a warrior mini 2 do you have any recommendations either between these choices or another one i havent considered?

That looks pretty generic. I know that a company like Olight isn't going into the ink business... They will just buy an off-the-shelf cartridge and design based off of that.

I bought bundled and it is described as having a refill included but they also offer free refills I think... At least they seemed to on my order. There was an extra option after I added the bundle to my cart for a free refill, so of course I added that. I guess I'll see what I get when it gets here though.

ordered one myself today. Been awhile since i reviewed olight gear. Does this have a lock out mode? Not sure if i like the new on off button personally. Ive been carrying my copper open for months and it does the trick. Also what led emitter is that in the top? and the temperature rating ? It is listed as warm white 3000k but how does it look in real world?

The laser is a .39mW class 1 emitter with a listed wavelength between 508-530nm. The LED does have a warmer tone, which I find ideal in this particular light for illumination of objects close up. It is noticeable warmer than the O’Pen 2 LED. The new one is more to my liking for this type of light. It does not have a lockout mode.

The o pen 2 has an aluminum version which is closer to the weight of the o pen Pro.

Been waiting to see an upgrade or a price drop. To see both is great! Is the ink used in the Pro the same as the old pen? I've heard that the ink isn't that great?

Was your Open 2 the aluminum model? I know they've made them in various materials. I've got a cooper, and aluminum open 2s and the aluminum version is by far the lightest. It didn't weigh much more than my zebra pens. The cooper one is a beast though. Its my permanent desk pen. 😅 I am really looking forward to one of these new O'pen Pros. They've only offered the black version in Canada so I'm holding off something in a different color cause I'm so tire of the black tacticool look on my stuff that honestly just makes it easier to lose.

I had the Open 2 but the clip was so tight it was unusable as a pocket clip. Is there any improvement on the pro?

Agreed, clip was unusable on mine. Using much care and going very slowly I was able to loosen the clip by bending it. I pried up on the end with a plastic putty knife and pinched it together on the screw end so as to not break the clip or pull the screw out. It is a sketchy procedure for sure but it worked out and I carry it daily on duty. One would think Olight would try these in a pocket.

With pushing the bolt action up to turn the light on don't you run into the problem that it turns on when you put it in your pocket?

It is feasible, but unlikely. The reason is that the bolt action is turned 90 degrees from the clip. I won’t go so far as to say that it can’t happen, but I don’t think it would be a constant problem.

( Olight pen pro ) why doesn’t it come in blue ink … in my workplace it’s not allowed to use black ink and I really like your product and I think that you should provide your customers what they need

I like Olight ( I have several) but I don't care for the O-pen becouse It's too much of a compromise.Great Idea ,but it's not great as a pen or as a light.

I'm an olight fan as well but this one doesn't quite do it for me. It's best use for me is as a cat toy. They love the laser.

Nice, but you could split old version and write in low light place by using them separately - pen in one hand and flashlight in enother. Am I right, you could not make this trick with o'pen pro?

According to the product info video on their website, there's a button, opposite of the laser. Seems like once you unscrew it, the laser is on the top, and a button is on the bottom, acting as an alternate switch to turn on the light. kzfaq.info/get/bejne/eptzlqZmt8fMYY0.html

Hmmmm....a "pen light". A lot of us who EDC to any extent would already be carrying a hand held flashlight. ..and probably have a keychain light (i do...have had one on my key ring for 8 years...forgot it was even there...heh...still powers up...I guess I have a lithium AAA in it...that lat I believe "20 yrs")...so to add a "pen light"?? Maybe not for me...I haven't carried a pen with me for over 8 years :) Oddly never needed one...

Interesting that your pens weigh differently than mine. My O'Pen 2 is lighter than my O'Pen Pro. Both are black.

I'm g;ad they made it more slender. My Open2s are not great for long writing sessions. I'd rather use my jotters or better yet my mechanical pencil....oh man if Olight offered a .9mm lead holder flashlight i'd buy 5.😅

Ben, can the O'light pens be used for personal defense to puncture? Use O'light as my weapon light on my AR 15 and it beats all. Love you site.
