Hi, so the mini turned on on me once, after that I put the tailswitch in the second mode, in this mode it’s not a permanent on when the switch is compressed once, its only on when the switch is held down, thus I havn’t had any issues at all from then. I have 6 warrior minis and carry always one of them in my pocket, and since I changed the setting I hadn’t have any issue at all.

As someone who’s experienced this first hand (and noticed before I caught fire) I can say without the shadow of a doubt that it’s magnetic objects, not the button being pushed. It’s hard to replicate but it’s not the button being pushed whatsoever. I chose to keep mine, I love it. I just make sure there’s nothing magnetic in the same pocket and there are no issues now. As an edc light I still recommend it if you are willing to put the condom or the lockout on, and I’m willing to be more responsible with it as a trade off for its high output, great feel, and tail switch.

I have a hard time believing that using the lockout feature is the fix. I’ve been carrying olights for years and never had an issue until I got the warrior mini. I’m pretty sure the tail switch is the problem. Also, the flashlight should have a temp sensor built in to protect itself given the price point. If it is capable of melting the lens, that’s a problem that the lockout feature doesn’t fix, a silicone tail cap doesn’t fix, and a different carry method doesn’t fix. That’s simply a major design flaw that needs to be addressed. I’m looking forward to getting a refund and am glad Olight is taking care of this issue the right way. Kudos to them for pushing the envelope of EDC flashlight design/performance and excellent customer service.

Good to know info. I have the Odin, with the same tail cap, and I use it for EDC. I have NEVER had it turn on accidentally, whether in my front pocket, with my keys, pack of gum, lighter, etc... At work, I will put it in a Nite-Ize "stretch" light holster (weak-side, bezel down). Definitely, do let us know about any other updates, please. Thank you, once again. Keep up the great work !!!

These are great lights and I too had one of mine come on in my pocket and melt my liner. I don’t see the lockout as a viable solution as this is intended as a tactical light. For that purpose you need instant access to turbo or strobe. I now set all my Warrior minis to Tactical Mode. This ensures that if the tail cap is depressed in my pocket the light only comes on momentarily and shuts off immediately. I too have been unable to turn the light on by bridging the tail switch. I don’t believe the side switch is the issue. It is definitely the sensitivity of the tail. Since I’ve set mine to Tactical mode, I have not had an issue and I rotate 2 of these and Carry them daily. Great video, thanks for bringing a thoughtfully considered opinion.

I’ve had mine come on in the pocket when I have forgotten to lock them out. One came on in my bag on New Year’s Eve. @robsedc9760
@robsedc9760 3 жыл бұрын
I have never turned mine accidentally. Most of the people that burn their pants probably use the "tactical mode" for the tailcap switch...half press for turbo. So basically you can use lockout, use the tailswitch in config 1, get a nice edc sheath for it or wait for the cap protector Olight's working on or you can design and 3d print one yourself to avoid lighting up on fire the inside of your pockets. I'm still going to carry mine as is since I had no issues with it and the output to size ratio's great in my opinion.

@@LiquidRetro Keys that are dirty or corroded would do it, perhaps not reliably. The tailswitch itself being dirty might also increase the probability. An ammeter set to mA or uA is likely to trigger it for testing purposes (and if you pocket carry one of *those*, you're cooler than me).

Got this light a few weeks ago. Great light... haven't personally had it go off in my pocket, but see how it could easily happen. Not much good as a EDC weapon light if you have to have a complicated lock out procedure. My biggest grip is that they should have made it with the clip at the other end of the light. That might help prevent something in your pocket from setting it off.

My regular Warrior has turned on in my pocket by a loose handcuff key. The tail cap was NOT pressed. The metal handcuff key against the magnet switch will activate the light. The same flashlight turned on while on my brand new couch I had just purchased. The Warrior burned a 1” hole in the fabric. Be careful with these flashlights! FYI- Also, for whatever reason, the warrior will also turn on when submerged in water. This has been the case since it was brand new,

I am very happy with mine because you can disable the tail switch and use the side switch just like the rest of the side switch Olights. Then if you want or need the tail switch, you have the option to re-enable it too. Best of both worlds and addresses the safety issue. With light off, unscrew head 1/8 inch or more if you feel the need for more insurance. Then the tail switch will become deactivated and you can use it like the other side switch only Olights. Like having two lights in one. Just make sure light is off before slightly rotating bezel first.

Great tip, thanks. Tried it on the aluminium and it works. But on Copper and titanium models it doesn't work. The threads conduct because of the bare metal they are not anodised. The anodising acts as an insulator to disconnect the tail switch. Any imperfection or wear on the aluminium threads will reactivate the tail switch unexpectedly. I believe that is why Olight did not offer this as a solution to the problem. It gives you a false sense of security; BOOM! your house burns down, your car blows up and your dog dies.

I was literally rummaging through some leather scraps I was going to use to make a little end-cap to stop this exact thing from happening and thought I'd watch some KZfaq while I made it, then found this video, haha. I might just wait for the silicone one now. It's such an awesome little light that I definitely don't want to send it back I haven't had the issue with the contacts being shorted to turn it on (I don't think). But I have had several different metal objects stick to the switch button which basically adds a massive protrusion directly from the button, so pretty much anything that bumps that bit of metal will turn on the light. It hasn't put it onto turbo yet though. Or if it has, it's bumped it back off before it managed to burn a hole in my pocket or backpack....

Do other flashlights readily burn and melt the lens when touching fabric? I'm not talking about several minutes (where you have a chance to prevent the burn), but a few seconds as in the case of this flashlight. I feel like there should be a thermal regulation step down thing and/or better construction that prevents this. To add, I understand prompting users to lock out their flashlight before pocketing it, but this should be on the cover of every box and made known before checkout. Because people put these in their pockets and unless you are educated to the hazards, it's easy to not think about locking it out.

It’s the contact with metals which causes it. It burned holes in two different pants. Fist time it had a key ring attached to the tail switch. Second time it has the Victorinox Cadet attached to it. The M2R has the same problem but it rides head down, so it minimizes this problem.

Related to the March 2022 recall: Most people who own these lights don't need this recall. We don't have a real reason to send them in unless we just want the upgraded Mini 2 or a store credit/refund. I own 4 of these and there's never been any issue. With power comes responsibility. Hell yea they'll get hot on Turbo, when that heat can't escape, but so does every light of this caliber that's pocket sized. I'm extremely satisfied with my warrior minis. EDC chest pocket, bezel up, with clip facing out every single day since they were released. Never once has one of them accidentally activated. I don't need to lock them out either, but I'm well aware of 2 different ways to do that, if wanted. Contrary to some reports, they do not "short" activate when metal objects come into contact with the tail cap. Of the 4 I have, I can not get any of them to activate that way. I've tried knife blades, keys, key rings, carbide scrapers, coins, pliers, multi tools, pens and even each other.....it ain't happening. Yes the tail switch is easily pressure activated and they've changed that in the Mini 2. They also added a proximity safety. This recall and the majority of complainers are simply a joke. First of all, quit carrying deep front pocket along with every other object under the sun and then pretend it's tactical and further pretend you could quickly deploy the light, without pulling everything else out too. If you're going to carry tactical then do it right or lock the damn light!

Thus far, an excellent EDC light with a UI which is ideal. Carry mine in tactical mode. Tail switch will only work on momentary press for turbo. I don't carry in my pocket. That's what my 600 lumen Rovyvon is for. No plans to return it. 🔦👍🔦

Have had mine since they came out and carried it everyday since then. I have had it turn on 3 times in my pocket. All when I have my whole key ring in there. The issue relates to pushing the button on the bottom not a contact issue. The steel key ring sticks to the magnet and it presses the button as you move. I have had zero additional occurrences since I make a point to put nothing else in that pocket...my keys can’t turn on my knife in the other pocket. I will take an oz of prevention for quick access to a bright rechargeable edc! My two cents.

You're dead wrong about keys or pocket knives not turning it on. It has to touch it right. I've have my keys stick to it and turn it on. Then later used my pocket knife to turn it on intentionally and it didn't take long until I could turn it on at will by lightly touching metal to it. No other flashlight does that. Its a major problem. Especially considering it comes on in Turbo.

@@LiquidRetro Use the back of a pocket knife blade (carbon steel, idk about stainless). You have to touch it to the button and the ring at the same time. Usually on one of the knobs. Just keep trying at different angles and it will come on consistently. Of course I can not claim that every single one of the Warrior Minis will do that. May be an imperfection in only a certain percentage of them. Also my M2R Pro Warrior doesn't do it and I tried a bunch of times on it too.

I kind of used common sense and don't carry other metal objects in my flashlight pocket. My right pocket gets my phone and my light. Money change keys and knife in in my left. Obviously if you buy a flash that takes a magnetic attachable pressure switch. Metallic Contact can turn the light on. That's like buying glock to pocket carry without a holster then saying I didn't know I needed to keep things out of the trigger guard or the gun could go off. Should they send everybody a free holster?

Well, considering its a side switch light, its not recommended for pocket carry, coz, you know, the switch WILL get pushed and therefore turning the light on (im surprised no one reliased this?). Its simple logic. Thats why i dont pocket EDC olights or any other side switch lights. Yea, you can just lock the light to avoid accidental activations, but that defeats the purpose of carrying it as your EDC light as you waste precious seconds trying to activate the damn thing.
@LiquidRetro

The side switch isn't the issue, it's the tail switch. It was very much designed for edc in a pocket.

@@LiquidRetro no, the light isnt designed for pocket carry. Ive had the Olight S10 and S1 first gen and those even had harder switches to press, and they still got activated accidentally. @@gercabz I carry the S2R Baton and the side switch has never come on in pocket. If it did, it wouldn't come on in turbo. The problem with the Mini Warrior is the tail switch. Thus Olight offering some sort of silicon cap for the tail....

@@j.s4891 thats your logic? Because it has a clip its already designed for pocket carry?
@gercabz
@gercabz 3 жыл бұрын
@@j.s4891 let me explain it to you. Its a 2 way clip. Its designed not only for pockets, you can use it to clip to hats and other things not only pockets. The DESIGN of the light is not for pocket carry. Why? Because of the SIDE switch. Side switches are PRONE to accidental activation and common sense should tell you why. I have Olight S1, S10 and S15 first gens and these have switches that are harder to press, and i still had accidental activation before.
