Olive Ridley Sea Turtle Nesting | Costa Rica | Ostional Beach, Guanacaste

Olive Ridley sea turtles arrive in thousands at Ostional Beach, an important turtle nesting ground in Costa Rica. This phenomenon of large congregation of sea turtles is locally called "arribada", meaning "arrival".
Playa Ostional in Guanacaste province is part of the protected area Ostional Wildlife Refuge, responsible for the protection of turtles, birds and other marine life in the region. We went on a guided tour to watch the "arribada" at Ostional.
In this video, we present to you the remarkable sights we saw during our turtle nesting tour, and also share the little but surprising details about the nesting turtles and the baby turtles. Hope you like the video!

Great video & info. I hope you don’t mind if I ask you a couple of questions. What month did you visit the refuge? Were you able to walk up to the office and book a daytime tour? It seems like they mostly have 5am or 7 pm tours though.

Thank you. Glad you enjoyed the video. We went for the tour in the month of September. Yes, it’s possible to walk in and book the tour, but we had anyway contacted them beforehand. The tour timings vary by each day - you need to keep an eye on the AGLO Facebook page. @@Mlt94024 Thanks! No, we went from the other side, and came back from the Nosara side. That way, we knew what to expect from river crossing right at the beginning of the drive, and not towards the end of a long trip.
