I remove the brake cross shaft seal on a Super 55 and replace it with a new seal. This same procedure will work for the Oliver 550 as well.

Do have a part number for those seals? Not finding them for the Super 55 at any of the Online Oliver stores.

Just call Korves Oliver at 618-939-6681 and they'll send it right away.

Great video- can you possibly explain exactly how the brakes work on this? I recently started working on a super 55 and can’t seem to figure the brakes out. When I press the brake lever on the right side, the right wheel stops, but the left wheel does not. Not sure what to adjust or repair because I don’t quite understand how they work.

The brakes are super simple and nothing to be intimidated by. Here is a link to my video on repairing mine: kzfaq.info/get/bejne/a6iKh5SQ2dqVZ2w.html

I watched that video as well. Is the shaft what connects the left side brake to the right? Saying, when you hit the brake pedal on the right side, the shaft engages the brake on the right side? I’m just trying to figure out why the right side isn’t engaging at all.

The brakes work independently of each other.....when you push the left or right brake there is a mechanism that expands....pushing the brake disc against the inner and outer walls of the housing. Much simpler than it sounds. Good investment would be the shop manual. Ebay sells them pretty reasonable....approx 1350 pages.

Got it- the spring on the inner pedal was broken and was not engaging correctly, replaced it and now the left side brakes. Is there any way to tie the two pedals together to stop both sides at once?

My tractor has leaked gear oil since I got it. Is it gear oil that encases this shaft? Or transmission fluid?
