When i open a field, i cut the back swath last. Ill start around the field with the tractor at the edge, working around untill headlands are cut, then counterclockwise the back swath for the last headland pass. I was taught to do this for a couple reasons.... field edge is usually poorest, competition from trees, compaction ect, so running that over with your tractor tires is preferable rather than inside a cut... and most importantly, youll find any branches that have blown down, or rough spots first before the mower does. If you do end up hitting an unseen branch or missed rock or dirt clod, at least it will be on the last headland pass, so you can get the headlands off and out of the way while your fixing your mower lol. Good vid, cut with a 2412 for decades

We sold a disk mower to the county for cutting along the road. It worked well until they hit a large steel pipe, bending and destroying the disk blade housing assembly. That was a big repair.

I have a Gehl 2365 & just love it, always had New Holland haybines before buying the Gehl & did so just because I like the design of it, didn't have steel frame work poking up in the sky every where like most others & the hitch wasn't a mile long. I pull it w/ a 6080 Allis that plays with it. It cuts 5.5 acres an hour.

We have a Kverneland ta336 disc mower conditioner(8ft). It has the impeller style conditioner and the 65 pto hp 690 runs it comfortably in most conditions. We have used the 52 pto hp David Brown 990 in a pinch, it does it but grunts every inch of the way. We do the entire field round and round, takes a few minutes to clean the corners but that's fine. We also do the very outside round after a round or two. We just find it's easier to judge where to drive. That coupler system is strange when you consider many just use universal joints and a simple shat to run the cutter head. Good video.

What? you bought a Decibel meter! ?? Mmm at first I thought i was an optical Tacho.... and then you told us -OK. Personally I have never bothered much with dbA - just don't listen to he noise! - so far so good I am glad to say! There are some kinds of noise I can't stand -justthe way of it - I like to listen to how my machines perform and all these Headphones ( Hot Ears) and Q Cabs do my head in - keeping windows closed to keep dust out etc: I prefer to work as you do in the Open air ( until it rains -but you only get wet - I'm a fair-weather farmer) Orchard grass Dactylis glomerata, also known as cock's-foot, waaat? you grow that? Yes it is a good productive early growth and dry conditions grass - bu notthe most palatable - and I have had to make hay from it when it is around 5ft high - terrible stuff. 5% in the grass mix is plenty. Here in the UK, would have it with PRG, IRG & Timothy (Phleum pratense) and the Fescues (Festuca) along with the Legumes.. Aye, the memeories of late season haymaking with all tha Pollen and fungal dust spores flying: or nothing at all except WATER Mist - because it is so wet ! Thanks for posting - grgeat to see how nothing in the world of growing is Right or wrong - different circumstances - Politicians don't see that when they legislate for what farmers do.

I haven't needed a lot, but so far I've been able to get whatever I needed shipped in a reasonable amount of time. I bought new knives for it last year from Gehl because I don't like the aftermarket ones. The Gehl knives are a little longer, and that makes all the difference on how clean it cuts. Plus they are reversible. I also ordered parts for adding remote hydraulics for my 24 year old Gehl skid steer and didn't have any problem getting them.

Can you explain what the over/under hydraulic Shift is on the tractor, always wanted to know.
@ThatOliverGuyChris
@ThatOliverGuyChris 4 жыл бұрын
I am someday going to make a repair video on them, I just need to have one to repair. Basically, it is an auxiliary transmission in front of the main transmission. The main transmission has 6 forward speeds, so you pick the gear that best suits the work you are going to do. The over/under is shift on the go, so say you picked 4th gear like I did in this video, you now have 3 speeds you can select from without having to clutch to shift. Under drive is the slowest. It uses gear reduction to slow the main transmission by about 20%. It uses what is known as a sprag clutch, which is basically a bunch of wedges that ride in the space between 2 shafts. When the output slows down to speed of the gear reduction, the wedges lean just a little and lock the 2 shafts together getting you under drive. When the output speeds up faster than the power path for under, the wedges lean back releasing their grip. This allows both direct and over to speed up the output, but also allows the tractor to freewheel in under, so if you're going down a hill it's best to have it in direct or over because the tractor can speed up in under. Direct drive uses a hydraulic clutch pack to lock the input side to the output side. It is essentially like there is a straight shaft going from the engine clutch to the main transmission. Over drive uses another hydraulic clutch pack to speed up the output by about 20% using the same gears as under drive. That might seem impossible, but both utilize a planetary gear set and by controlling which gears turn in the planetary changes the speed you get. The over/under is self contained having its own oil, pump, filter, and cooling system. Since you get the 3 shift on the go speeds in each of the main transmission gears, you effectively have 18 forward speeds (6 gears x 3 shift on the go speeds) and 6 reverse speeds (2 reverse gears x 3 shift on the go). Hopefully that explains it until I can get a video made.

where you previously a gehl dealer ? what is your take on part availibility from factory ? is it just sell all parts in inventory & quit or do they make additional parts ? thanks
@ThatOliverGuyChris
@ThatOliverGuyChris 4 жыл бұрын
Yes, when we closed in 98 we had been a Gehl dealer for just over 60 years. The only trouble I've had with parts is the lack of dealers. I haven't needed much, but it always has to be shipped which takes time. There's a dealer by the name of German-Bliss that has all the parts books online with prices. For having been out of the Ag market for as long as they have, Gehl has done a decent job of supplying parts. Granted I haven't needed much, so I might be biased.

We were using more expensive seed until last year. We bought some cheap stuff to use as a green plow down, but all the rain we had last year changed our plans. We had some winter kill and used it to reseed that ground instead. It turned out to be our best alfalfa last year. We planted more of it this spring as well and it caught really well.
