It's because he doesn't laugh, like, ever, he doesn't even hint that he's joking but somehow he just gets the message through and people who appreciate good comedy know that he's joking. @OT S Most celebrities have some kind of a public persona. Usually it is a slightly exaggerated or otherwise emphasized version of their real selves (and some are just completely different in public than in private). I think this is what the he referred to as a character. Ayoade's so-called character is a very deadpan, serious, shy and self-deprecating awkward person. This is probably just a very very overdone version of his actual personality but who knows.

She knows how to do comedy and at this point Ayoade's story needed her perfect "normie" timing, enhancing Ayoade's awkwardness properly. If it was only Carter and Boseman without Coleman's warmth, Ayoade's awkwardness would have been just that and the comedic message wouldn't have come through. Carter is a special kind of weirdo herself and Boseman is an outsider, trying to understand what was happening. Respect! And rest in peace, Chadwick Boseman.

@je7055
@je7055 4 жыл бұрын
I definitely think he got it and appreciated Ayoade's humor, with the exception of the jokes about his hometown. Speaking as an American, the jokes about pastoral-sounding British towns are a whole segment of British humor that is completely lost on most of us. There's not really an equivalent to it in American humor, even making fun of, ah, certain states the need not be mentioned (*cough* Florida *cough*) is a very different kind of humor... the joke about Christmas still being celebrated in Ipswich (which, as an American, I don't even remotely get, though it seems very funny) wouldn't really work at all if you replaced Ipswich with Florida. So I think Chadwick's apparent confusion with that particular joke is real. (I wouldn't be surprised if this gets a reply from a fellow American claiming to get British city-related humor - Brits, don't believe them!)
