Titled so appropriately, we're all here on borrowed time. I'm 56 so I grew up with Dame Olivia, my Mom had every album, we traveled a lot in the 70's and Olivia was all over the radio. My love for her continued, then Grease, Xanadu...Olivia was a gift to the music world, a gift to us, there will never be another, no one even compares to her voice, her lyric, her grace, elegance her strength and fortitude. This is truly a very sad passing in the the music world. We all lost a special friend even those of us that didn't know her.

Beautiful words. She meant a lot to me and I've never met her. She sang a song titled Sam. My name is Sam when I was a kid I pretended that she was singing it to me and for me. She was and is still loved by millions of that I am sure of.

This is probably the only album I know every song to without needing lyrics, because I played it over and over at 10 yrs old in '78. Such a sweet, beautiful voice!

Perfection doesn't require auto-tune. Olivia, a true vocal superstar, world beauty and humanitarian; and the first woman I fell on love with at age seven, firty-seven years ago when I first heard her voice on the radio.

For some strange reason this song popped in my head today and I began singing it (I used to sing until I got married and had children)! Hadn't heard these songs since I was about 18, (I'm 53 now!) This was an album I wore out back in the day and it appears I never forgot it, and still know every word to every song of hers! Her BEST album and it is soooooo good to hear it again!!!

@@bytirbenna Oh I still sing but because of a lack of consistent practice my voice is not what it used to be. Plus with age my voice has gotten deeper and fuller. I used to mostly sing blues/soul/rock fusion but who didn't love Olivia? Back in the day, my young voice could emulate Olivia's voice. I will sing until the day I die, even if it sounds bad, it feels soooo good! Music is the ONLY thing in life that has brought me consistent joy and solace. Never stop singing!

'Borrowed Time' was the original flip side of 'A Little More Love', the biggest hit single lifted from 'Totally Hot' (UK/Ireland edition) which I still like as much as the A side. One of her own songs, more credit to her 😊

This album was such an amalgam of styles for this 80’s release.. The album had plenty of synth'd driven pop tunes like ‘Please Don’t Keep Me Waiting’ and ‘Talk to Me,' plus the album titled ‘Totally Hot’… but then you have country flavored tunes that harken back to ONJ’s origins - ‘Dancini’ Round And Round’ and ‘Borrowed Time.’ What an eclectic mixture of songs, especially since Olivia was striving to be a pop diva at this time. Why include these ‘throw back’ country tunes? Me personally, I love that these other tunes were part of the whole album. The mix of tunes show both the strive to be current/relevant (all the 80’s pop tunes) but also acknowledges her roots. Nice mix of present and past, if you ask me. BTW… I saw ONJ in Seattle on her 50th birthday. The crowd spontaneously broke out in the ‘Happy Birthday’ song to her and Olivia was taken by surprise and truly seemed humble by the crowd’s adoration. It was a great moment.

Say what you want about digital, Olivia's voice was perfect for recording on analog tape. There's tonal qualities in her breathiness that digital cannot capture the same way. Not that ONJ doesn't sound great either way, but old-school recording styles really capture a mood.
