Bit of fun this week, I run through the machines that stand out in my memory as being the least favourite one's I would want to do a shift in.
As always, keen to hear what you would add to this list in the comments below.

Hi Ollie Nice One not used any of those machines the digger I disliked using was the 1.5 ton JCBs cant remember the number the curved shaped ones before the current square shaped range just seemed cheaply built not as nice to use as the old TB016 Thanks again

Totally agree about the Hitachi, we had a few 8 tonners too and they were probably the worst machines I’ve driven. Thankfully they’ve all been sold now. Give me a 3cx any day!

Nice little vid there Olly my favourite digger has to be the Kubota u17 worst diggers in my opinion JCB 8008 Kubota u25-3 horrible cab. There was also a small zero swing komatsu can't remember the model number again horrible cab.

Glad you mentioned the yanmar, I'm 5'10 and found the cab appalling literally banging my knees constantly. Extremely uncomfortable to spend 8 hours in and I had to keep getting out and stretching as I was getting cramps. As you say the rest of the machine is good.

The vio80 is no better either! That cab is stupid small, glad I worked my way up and away from residential. Using small machines. To now sitting in 30+ ton machines on cargo ships moving logs and steel around! Much more space in the cab.

Try out the Sv26, not the completely cramped ViO. Thats one of the big drawback in zero tail. I absolutely hate wrenching on them.

Not sure if Kit from 30 years ago is a fair comparison, so will stick to more modern stuff. Cat have 2, their M315C, we had 2 brand new back in 2006, both were awful. Blowing hoses, fuel pumps, ram issues, spool block issues, blade frames cracking, steering columns breaking, and electrical issues. 'Cat' (I think badged) Telehandlers, TH series, bloody awful machines, and not a patch on the JCB range. Liebherr, excellent machines, but why oh why did they insist on that ridiculous side by side pedal design for operating attachments, when a normal rocker pedal would suffice. For anyone like me with big feet it was a nightmare.

Good video again, Ollie. Just bought a Yanmar SV19, not the zero tail, so as to accommodate my long legs. Seems a very smooth machine apart from the rotation lever. I find it impossible to turn about an inch to line up a bucket for instance. However gently the lever is moved , nothing happens then a jolt. It could always be operator error, so would be very interested in your, or others, experience. There was a flash of green at 1:19. Oh no, not going to include the Avant is he. Thankfully you did not. Definitely something I would not be without.

Thanks. Cant say I have tried the SV19. I've been on the zero tail vio17, again drove well. Sounds like you might have a sticking valve somewhere on your machine? Not easily identified to be honest and they can sort themselves out over time. Can you visit the dealers and try another machine in their yard to see if its the same as yours? Might be an easy way to rule out it just "being like that"

I was running daewoo back in the late 80s an old dh110 and then later dh180 , I went from a Hymac 580c so the daewoo was like a rolls Royce in comparison

Been following your reviews with great respect coming from an old codger like myself, Started off on a 3cs and 5cs, JCBs of course and then progress to 805c,6c and then a poclain 60 which for the time was in Comfort a rolls Royce in 360 excavators however not the quickest, JCB 814 super was a game changer both in power and speed with good old servo controls same as poclain, liebherr 942 now that had raw power,Comfort and durability especially in hard digging , Komatsu pc 160,210,300,400, in the late 80s early 90s had it right as well! Now the cat 245 mass excavator that was the dogs bollocks once you got used with the slew brake,😂, All said machines I worked for different company's however I have owned a Komatsu pc95 and a cat 308ecr and both were excellent! The list goes on Ollie and I thougherly enjoy watching your channel, Keep up the good work fella, Kind regards Jake

Thanks Jake, glad you enjoy my videos. I try to make stuff that I would want to watch and hope others do too. I grew up watching those machines you have mentioned through gaps in fences around building sites, must have been a good craic back then on jobs and a bit more laid back than it is now. Hope you're keeping busy, thanks for commenting, love to hear what people get up to

@Olliegunns In those day's Ollie everyone looked out for each other!! It was called in the industry respect!! Not what it is now, some young ones calling on so called sites on the Internet coffin dodgers!! They couldn't lace my boots!!🤣 Tickets mean nothing young man and that you well know your good self! Experience brings abilities and experience doesn't come with a ticket it comes with experience! In lay man's terms, competent!! Today's mentality is not good amongst young operators nowadays, 14 to 16 hr days plus to get jobs done were the norm in those days! Good pay and respect and job satisfaction!!

A lot of people really rate Kobelco now, which New Hollands were based on back in the day. Now think NH are tied into Eurocormach excavators along with Case. Not many people making their own machine these days - bit like cars! Different brands, same machine!

I am on the wet coast of Canada. you run odd size minis. we just commonly have 08, 17, 35. I know one guy with a 27 and one with a 33. I have an old kx91-3, a new sany sy50u with a steelwrist. with what I do it seems a 17 is the next one I will buy as they are pretty handy and I seem to rent them a few times a year, I think a tiltrotator on it would be crazy fun. for some reason I really like the kx 080-4 that I have run. worst machines would be the grey market komatsu 75 with an offseting boom. was so nose heavy and worn out, no room for your feet at all in the cab. I love running old ex200 and the zx225s, the zx245 seem to have less feel to them and I think I would wreck more stuff with that power, ran one that was turned down to normal levels but that defeats the point of buying the hotrod series imo

I think the mini excavators at the size they are in England is because the towing limit with a pick-up truck is 3.5 ton, and thats including the trailer. Whereas a 3.5 ton excavator in the U.S. or Canada is no real problem behind the typical 2500HD truck. Excavator dealers will sell what suits the regulations in the country.

Paul is bang on with his answer. Its the towing limits that govern the 2.7t machine class here. Wish we could tow what you can!

I'm not sure ill sleep tonight after reminding me about the genie telehandler the seemed to have a mind of there own and not do anything for a good few seconds after you had moved the lever. I could never get the u27 Hitachi to grade it was easier to get out and use a rake the 5t isn't much better either, I don't mind the Hitachi 8t with the fixed boom though it is a little under powered and short of reach being the same boom as the 85usb. The kx80-4 has to appear somewhere on the list because it was such a step backwards from the -3 and I think the yanmar sv08-1 micro deserves a place for being incredibly slow at slewing
@Olliegunns
@Olliegunns 9 ай бұрын
The SV08 micro narrowly missed the cut for top 5. Although my most hated feature on it was the key position meant that every time you got on or off it you would knock the key and turn it off! Also narrowly missing the list are Merlo telehandlers that seem to have controls that are impossible to work out and differ between machines, JCB's 1t dumper for having the stupid horn beeping when you want to drive forwards - also an impossible to get right every time, seatbelt sequence that requires you to complete a rubix cube before you can move off... where it then beeps again.... You can see why that's frustrating....
@whitman55
@whitman55 9 ай бұрын
@@Olliegunns I'd forgotten the key that you kept knocking and turning it off. Don't get me started on sequences I've a 210 komatsu that you have to flick a switch and press a button on to release the quick hitch and it ha to be fully curled first or it will not release the bucket and it's dangerous with the pipe lifter.on

I replaced a 8018 and 8025 with a zx 19 and 26 u best decision I ever made. The Hitachi's were cheaper to buy new at the time far more reliable and we looked at trading them the other day and were offered far more money as trade ins over the jcbs. Run a mix now of two takehuchi's two Hitachi's two Sany's and one JCB and a terex. Worse thing about the cabbed Hitachi's was the radio placement was an elbow basher 🤣
@Olliegunns
@Olliegunns 9 ай бұрын
The Hitachi's have a great following, and are incredibly reliable as you say, but I think they have gone backwards from the older range which were excellent! The 8025 isn't a very well regarded machine sadly and is long overdue an update. Luckily my 8026, whilst sharing some body panels with the 8025 (and sadly the cab..) is a far superior machine underneath and has completely different hydraulics - night and day over the 8025, but as you say, sadly doesn't hold its value as well as the Hitachi, Kubota and Takeuchi equivalents.

I'm glad you are getting on well with your 8026, I had a 8014 that was a fantastic machine so replaced with a new 8018 and 8025 which where plagued with reliability issues and poor paint and poor dealer response so it was time for a change. All the new equipment regardless of brand seems to be going backwards now. Our Sany's are proving reliable, only two let downs so far is the paints not the best and the fuel tanks could do with being bigger, but their well liked by our customers

If your any way tall a yanmar is not the place for you. Most of the smaller ones i drove were fast machines nice to grade with had a 75 hired and it was the slowest yoke i ever drove. My first machine was an ex30 i loved that machine wore it out brilliant machine. Bought a new dm08 hinowa paid for itself in a month clock went around in it she was absolutely wore out did everything it should not have done cleaned a steep bank down with it strapped to a frame on a teleporter once 😅. Had a bobcat e10 until it was stolen great little machine recently bought a JCB 8032 only getting used to it but its a quick powerful digger have a flail on her and she is earning her keep. Favourite machine ever is a Hitachi ex75 zero with knuckle boom put a lot of hours on them savage machine in the wrong hands wont say no will do anything luv them
