Thanks for sharing! Gosh! It seems I have been watching Andre Bretel for decades, since he was a enthusiastic adolescent attending Sensie Asai's classes. He has matured into a kareteka Sensie Asai would be no doubt proud. The baton passed on! Excellent!

He is an excellent Sensei and I can tell you that he is not actor. Check the competitions videos and you will see how fast he is against the opponents. It is pure karate 🥋 Oss

I know this is Karate, yet the agility and velocity do remind me of Bruce Lee. However Andre seems much more humble. Very impressive.

The choreographies are there to teach you principles and various skills. But you're right, just doing the moves for looks or winning competitions will get you nowhere.

That would be interesting... these techniques look great no doubt, but application in hard kumite... maybe not so much

This is a false impression one might get from just watching the videos. But: everyone who joins those seminars knows it's going to be a little harder sometimes; and it is announced in the very beginning that no one should volunteer who isn't prepared for it. So, those guys and girls who help with the demonstration do so because they wish to. In fact, most people attending André sensei's Workshops do so BECAUSE it's budo Karate. ;-)

Hojutsu, or in modern nomenclature Ju no Kunren / Shageki kunren are martial arts with guns so while technically no martial art can 'stop' a bullet, there are martial arts that teach you how to fight with bullets. Basically modern western style gunfighting.
