The Montano family from Italy already had their place in Olympic fencing history previous to the Athens 2004 Olympic Games.
The father, Aldo Montano competed in the Berlin 1936 and London 1948 Olympics, taking a silver medal in each of them. 24 years later, his son Mario Aldo Montano made his Olympic debut in Munich 1972, winning an Olympic gold medal. Mario Montano would still get two more medals, this time silver, in Montreal 1976 and Moscow 1980.
In the Athens 2004 Olympic Games, Mario's son Aldo Montano took with him not only his grandfather's name, but also the family's Olympic medal tradition.
Reaching the final, Aldo had already kept to the family's Olympic tradition by guaranteeing a medal. Now his objective was to take gold. The title match against Zsolt Nemcsik from Hungary was an uphill struggle for Montano. Nemcsik took an early 5x1 lead which forced the Italian to battle for a draw.
At the end, with a tight 15-14 score, Aldo Montano won the Olympic gold medal and confirmed the Montano fencer family tradition. Three generations, six Olympic medals.

Truly great fencers, I know because I did fence with Mario Aldo in 1976 at Warsaw.

un matto, va bene esultare ma esiste anche l'avversario, non e che gli esulti in faccia come un selvaggio, si capisce la felicità e non discuto questo, a me da piccolo i miei mi hanno insegnato che quando si vince si deve sempre tener conto dell'avversario dargli la mano anche perchè prova stati d'animo opposti ai nostri, e anche la felicità va saputa vivere come la sconfitta,per il resto complimenti a lui è stato bravo,si vedeva che la voleva questa medaglia, ma ragazzi il rispetto è la prima cosa,soprattutto a questi livelli.

Ma che commento perbenista è? La gioia pura non manca di rispetto a nessuno. La gioia che esplode è pura bellezza. C’è tempo dopo per stringere la mano e rispettare l’avversario.

@@beck2929 mah! può darsi che abbia ragione tu, la mia impressione è invece che l'invadenza del calcio si faccia sentire anche nell'esultanza di altri sport che di solito si portavan dietro i loro comportamenti, il loro modo di rispettare l'avversario,la loro tradizione,e persino il loro modo di esultare,comunque non sono contro l'esultanza spontanea figurati..spero che abbia capito a cosa mi riferivo,non ho parlato di rispetto.

I don't see how the last two points are Montano's, the Hungarian was robbed in all senses of the word and also Aldos flag on his lame is a Hungarian flag
