2 goals from Oribe Peralta helped Mexico win the men's football gold medal as they faced Brazil in the tournament's final at Wembley Stadium as part of the London 2012 Olympic Games (11 August).
Hulk managed to score for Brazil to bring the final score to 2-1 but it was only enough for the silver medal as South Korea won bronze.
Football first appeared on the programme of the Games of the II Olympiad, Paris 1900. It has been on the programme of each edition of the Games ever since, with the exception of Los Angeles 1932. In 1996, women's football was introduced into the Olympic programme.

This was 80% the same team Brazil used in the WC 2014: Neymar, Oscar, Marcelo, Hulk, etc. But they still lost to this young Mexican team. Great game, Mexico once again dominates Brazil in a final.

That's not true, the sons of ex-footballers are able to get proper training, however players like Oribe Peralta, Jose Jesus Corona, Rafa Marquez and Carlos Vela are poor kids who were able to make it through the academy system and got to the senior level. The only sons of footballs players you mention lamar are Giovanni Dos Santos, and Chicharito, Chicharito wasn't allowed by Manchester United to compete at the olympics no matter how often he begged to play for his nation in the games back in 2012, and Giovanni ended up injury in the semifinal vs. S. Korea.

Mexico has always had the quality to succeed, just rarely do they have the players with the attitude necessary to succeed. This game was won because they brought passion to the game. Where is that passion now? The day that Mexico is able to stay consistently motivated and able to play with all they have is the day they will enjoy successes like this one that feels like forever ago, on a regular basis.

As a Mexican I wish FIFA would come up with a permanent tournament involving North and South America. Mexico needs to consistently play against teams like Brazil , Chile, Argentina, Colombia etc rather than Honduras , El Salvador, Belize, Guatemala etc in order to really prosper in this sport

Interesting fact about this game is Marcelo (who is an amazing player) has to have the worst luck.. This is his second time facing a Mexican team in a finale where he loses. The first time around was in 2005 when he was part of the brazilian U-17 and Dos Santos was in that Mexican U-17 team as well.

Correction Mexico has won world cups just not at senior level also... Mexico has won a confederation cup in 1999 which used to be called a ore world cup so winning that is kind of like winning a world cup

All mexico needs to gain respect worldwide is to have a goalscorer in the world cup and to reach the semis. Holland has never won it and are respected. Mexico as a team has won more than them but the lack of consistency in world cups kills them. Oh well. One day ;)

The match that got me into soccer. Still the most beautiful looking game I've ever seen. My Dortmund and Madrid has more weight but this game was so unbelievably pure. It was a game of chances, it did not seem to have much if any of a pinball bouncing around feel to it, there were always clear moments of attack for one team and defense for the other almost as if they were trading possession like American football. So intense

Mexico siempre nomas daba pura verguenza y pena en las olimpiadas normalmente eran siempre eliminados en fase de grupos y que luego de la nada en el 2012 salen campeones la neta si me sorprende y pensar que en 4 años de ser eliminado vergonsosamente por Haiti en el preolimpico a ser campeon en Londres es algo que aun no me quadra

its just like one of the Mexican players said "Brazil had great players, but they were not a real team. Mexico was and that's why we won". A clear example of this is when two of the brazilian players were arguing with each other. They had a big ego because they thought they were the best, but Mexico even without one of their best players Giovanni Dos Santos still managed to win.

Okay, I love my country, and I'd love to see them win a World Cup, but let's be realistic, what chance does Mexico stand competing against teams like Germany, Italy, England, Spain, etc. I know we have great players, but we're very irregular, one day we can win all, and the other be at the bottom of CONCACAF. I would like to say that we will win the World Cup, it'd be amazing, but let's keep it real, this will not happen soon.

It's funny because Spain ,italy, England all lost and none got out of the first round and I'm sure cpncacaf teams like Costa Rica , USA , Mexico all stood higher than Italy or England or Spain. I know my reply is a year late but never judge a team until it plays in the tournament called the world cup

Falta de respeito do reporte falando inglês com os jogadores que não fala inglês, aqui no Brasil os reportes precisa falar outros idiomas pra dar entrevistas legais e os atletas não se sentir incomodados..
