A five-time Olympic Champion, Australian legend Ian Thorpe is one of the greatest swimmers ever and one the biggest stars of the Sydney Olympics, but after leaving the sport he had to overcome depression before inspiring others.
These legends made history, but their legacy lives on. Where are Olympic heroes now and how are they inspiring future generations?

The most memorable thing about Thorpedo for me is the smoothness of his stroke. It didn’t look like he was going fast at all because his strike was so calm. Meanwhile he’s in first and everyone else is flailing their arms and kicking furiously.

I was 10-years-old during the Sydney Olympics, the first summer Olympics I remember. As a little Canadian girl, Ian Thorpe was my hero. He was the reason I am such a fan of the Olympics. Thanks for the great memories, Mr. Thorpe.

Ian Thorpe is a remarkable icon. This documentary is a nice slice of life. His comments about Alexander Popov, depression and civil rights give such a sensational athlete a very human touch. Great to hear from Dawn Fraser.

This is the man that made me love swimming even more...During the 2000 and 2004 Olympics, I was already in my late 20's and early 30's. I've never missed watching Ian Thorpe's races on live TV. I was idolizing this guy and I've always had the motivation to kept on swimming, too...:) He's such a great Olympian and an inspiration to the world...God bless you, Ian...you really are a legend, a living legend !

Crazy to think that Ian swam a 400m final, then on the same night anchored the 4 x 100 relay against Gary Hall Junior, who was the Caeleb Dressel of that era. Not only did he go against him, but actually beat him, a middle distance swimmer beating the best sprinter in the world after winning a 400m final not long before…. 1 word… PHENOMENAL!!!
