How refreshing, with somebody reviewing a camera not by listing features and specs, but by letting their photos tell the story about the camera. And then on top of that delivering it with a both pleasant and entertaining narration! Sir, you are a true inspiration!

Thank you for your kind comments. I agree with you entirely. All too often we have to endure some one waffling away and where you are thinking, for goodness sake show us some pictures! Maybe, they can't?

The most beautiful video about the OMD MII -- or any other camera for that matter -- I have ever seen.

Brilliant review, Derek. I enjoy your refreshing style and knowing that you shoot hand held. Your captures show what can be achieved in the simplest manner. There's no substitute for getting out there and using the camera in the manner it should be.

Another great video Derek. I agree that using manual settings make you concentrate more and you produce better photographs. When using the program setting you tend to produce more "snapshots" and less photographs. Thanks again. Hal, Boynton Beach, Fl.

Glad you like the latest video Hal. Hopefully Heritage Steam Railways in May, then a break as I have other photographic work to complete. Winter is the best period for putting these programmes together. Best wishes, Derek.

Amazing video. One of the best I have seen, if not the best for the reason being it is showing through the entire video what can be done with the camera and a certain lens and its results. To often in videos you see the person and a 'few' images and video from the camera. Great narration, history and artistic creative learning flow that you possess. Stunning photos! And true it's still always the artist behind the camera as greatly shown with you using the 12-50mm lens. Excellence and greatness! This should be recommended to all EM 1 MK2 future/possible buyers! :+). Saving for this ideally by end of year (or sooner).

I researched other KZfaq films before producing mine and felt that despite the photographer's superior technical knowledge, they felt it more important to project themselves and the camera, but hardly with any pictures, or at least, not many. Yet, these films receive an extraordinary number of views and likes, so maybe my approach is wrong? Better get my hair cut, buy new Rohan gear and try again!

brilliant! wonderful narration and a surprise and the dynamic range you were able to capture. thoroughly enjoyed your video and it make me take a 2nd look at this camera body.
@DerekForss7 жыл бұрын
Thank you for your kind comments. Whilst the dynamic range in the OM-D E-M1Mkii is impressive, please keep in mind that some post-production in Lightroom is still important when making your own assessment of the camera.

You are the first person who shows what this camera can do through your exquisite experience. No one else has done this. I currently use a Fuji X system, and Nikon, but wanted to try this camera for all its features and size. What's the largest print you can get from this Olympus camera? I am curious. My concern is the smaller sensor and how much I'd lose from APS-C or even full frame. I also wanted to know if pro photographer actually uses 4/3rd sensors these days now that we have such larger sensors available. I love the IBIS and the lens selections, but am hesitant that the micro 43rds is getting a bit outdated. The camera and its features are wonderful, though the price isn't. I would prefer a smaller camera as I am older and want less to carry, plus my eyes are not as sharp as they used to be, so need the good AF capabilities. Do you actually shoot with this sensor size system? What is your take on this? I also come from film, shooting medium format & 35mm with every variety of system back in the day.

Hello Elaine. Thank you for your very encouraging comments. Unfortunately I don't produce prints, but my work is reproduced in books and magazines. In this medium my work has been used as a double-page spread, similar in size to an A3 print, the smaller sensor not being an obvious problem.

I consistently make prints 24 x 36 and 30 x 40 with both the E-M1 and E-M1 Mark II with No problems, very crisp detail !

Derek, reviewing this to determine if there is a reason to look at the newest version of the OM D E M1 Mk iii vs the featured camera here, Mk ii...Is there a reason that you haven't decided to upgrade aside from price or improvements over the ii? Perhaps you prefer a good beta testing by others of a few years before doing so? :-) Would love to hear your thoughts on this! Thank you for this great review.
@DerekForss3 жыл бұрын
I would only upgrade my camera if I felt it financially beneficial and certainly under the Covid-19 cloud I have to be careful about expenditure. I still think the E-M1 mk2 to be an excellent camera that answers my current commercial needs. Olympus occasionally allow me to try the latest camera, as with the E-M10mk4, but I have to give it back!

Great video, amazing images. All with the 12-50! I may have to seek one out! I'm saving for the M1 mk2, I shoot M10 mk2 at present!
@DerekForss7 жыл бұрын
Some photographers may feel restricted by the variable aperture zoom of the 12-50 lens where you lose 2 stops between wide-angle and telephoto. Much of my work is in good light, so this is not too much of a problem however, inside churches and stately homes I tend to keep to wide-angle so that I can handhold at f3.5 with the aid of the superb Image Stabiliser in the E-M1Mkii. Glad you like the video, currently I am producing another film about Heritage Steam Railways, of which you got a taster in this programme.

I have just started with the OMD EM10 Mark II and the kit lens three week ago. Also have the 40-150., WOuld like a prime lens or a macro lens. I really enjoyed the view from Google's HQ at night near King's Bross and St Pancras and also got some lovely interior shots of the St Pancras, building, 5 days after purchase. Image stabiliser even on the EM10 is wonderful.

Is there any way customize the camera to have multi-spot metering like the OM-4 ?
@DerekForss6 жыл бұрын
I am not sure this is possible. I am seeing Olympus next Tuesday and will ask them.

Hi Gary, have you not looked at the programme all the way through? I do state at 14:00 that the whole programme is shot on the 12-50 lens. It is not a Pro lens, but I used it to demonstrate what can be achieved with a limited arsenal. Best wishes, Derek
