I got it 2 month back the XZ-1. Very impress with the result. The only short coming is it does not come with a external battery charger which we have to buy separately .

@damien123666 The big options are basically the Canon S95 and G12. Both have really good image quality. The S95 is small and can fit in a pocket, but only has a 28-105 zoom, the G12 is bigger and has a 28-140 lens with more external manual controls. Both are basically the same camera aside from outer body and lens, and offer RAW and all the other features that a DSLR has, although some, like manual focus, are harder to use on the compacts. (Since you have to use buttons or a wheel)

@sirtechy Better" is a very subjective word. Depends on what tasks you want your camera to perform. But a few basic facts for starters might yield enough clues for you to make a decision. The X100 has a sensor that is over 8 times as large as the sensor on the XZ-1, while only having to handle 20% more pixels. And for a lot of people the X100's price being roughly at this moment (at least) 3 times that of a comparable XZ-1 configuration, the decision might pretty much make itself.

The look of this video is MUUUCH better looking than recent previous videos....looks more pro/film movie like unlike your other recent videos which have been looking like they were shot with a cheap sony handycam or something.

Awesome review. Especially since I've got the S90 and I'm now thinking of the XZ-1 because of that stonking lens. It is as if Olympus really watched what the others were doing, and said: "OK, we can do better by simply doing what the photographers want. We won't insult them by forgoing important stuff in favor of useless gimmicks." It is bigger than the Canon for sure, but that lens must make you forget! It's like Mustang GT and it's awesome V8 vs. the elegant, refined Mazda Miata and it's I-4.

I would reccomend 200ASA, for general purpouse, but for indoor shooting without flash. 400 ASA would be more convenient. But beware, the auto-exposure only ranges from 25-400 ASA.

i think you guys should make 2 parts of the review, one where kai reviews it, and one where lok reviews it just for two opinions

What do you think takes better pictures in all auto mode this camera or the DMC-GF3 are in about the same size form factor but is is really worth the extra money to get the 1080p video and touch screen? I don't car for the interchangeable lenses

@hazoom2009: Yeah. I had the S90, and I wanted the faster lens of the XZ-1. The S90 was nice, and the S100 is just an evolution of the S90. But the XZ-1 is nicer, at the expense of a bit of size. I almost NEVER need to use the flash on it.

Though I agree about being less compact. I would have compared this camera to My G12, instead of the S95. And in that case, doesn't this guy win on all fronts?

@TheFuneralify no....i doubt that's that's reason seeing as how the 600D is equally capable of the same exact high quality film look as this video. (I've watched other 600D videos on youtube that have the exact look & feel of this video.)

Do you own the Canon G12 too? I was to buy the Canon (with the G15 out, G12 it's cheaper now), but the XZ-1 costs 180 dlls less. I can't decide!

Which image quality and color are better, XZ-1 and s95

@raine9518 XZ-1 wins handily, unless the 24mm wide angle is super important to you. For instance if you're in Europe and you like architecture or landscapes. I found myself missing that last 4mm of wide angle with my Canon S90. When you need 24mm, 28 just won't do. Can't back up any more to squeeze that church in, because the other buildings are jammed right up next to it!

Another great review -but I think I'll stick with my Canon s90 More LOK please!!

@wrbwrxmax Yep, being familiar w/ the 550D, the G12 should definitely be on the list, if the G-series form factor & weight are agreeable to you. The 5x optical zoom, great low light, high iso performance, & the familiar knobs & buttons make it easier to get where you want to be w/o more diving into menus, which a Canon dSLR user should find familiar & pleasing. Just be aware of its shutter speed limitations, the narrower wide-angle end of the zoom, & it's no AF, no optical zoom limits in video.

XZ-1 or LX5? Most of the time I'm more interested in taking still pictures. So which one is the best buy? I love it's slightly bigger than s95/100 cos I can act like a pro with it. I just can't afford DSLRs. And it would be waste of money cos I mostly used it when travelling or for some occasions. Anyone who have experience using this camera pls let me know what u think.

As I said a great video and an interesting camera - but if I want to carry around a big camera I'd use a Pana G Series as their better still....Yep - sticking with my S90 for now which is a GEM. Olympus have done much better SMALL cameras such as the XA (film way back) so they can do it if they try, suspect they have tried to out spec instead.... Nice to see Mr Lok in action - more please

tough choice, canon s95 has better video and is much smaller - fits in any pocket, but xz1 has much better battery life and better macro range, regarding picture quality they are both good for compact camera especially in low light conditions, not big difference in price
