There is a great continuity clue that most people missed in this movie - when Mukesh is manhandling Shanti before starting the fire, 2 of the 5 red flowers in her hair fall down. If you notice closely - the ghost Shanti has 3 flowers in her hair while Sandy has 5 flowers. Whoever noticed that and maintained the continuity should get a standing ovation. That clue itself makes the climax 10x better.

So , this is for Achara and Andrew , This movie's name has a deeper meaning. Om Shanti Om. Om + Shanti are a pair (Om and Shanti from the past) whereas the second Om has no pair because Shanti isn't repeated after it (past om got reincarnated as om kapoor but Shanti didn't get reincarnated because her soul was trapped after the death. Sandy just got her face but she isn't Shantipriya). Om (past) Shanti (past) Om (repeated and reborn). Two Oms and a Shanti between them. Shantipriya, the only woman they loved even beyond death and time. Future Om only wants Sandy because of her appearance but his greatest love will always be Shantipriya.

As a kid I actually did notice the supernatural element with Om discovering the set, the door automatically opening for him, the picture burning and even Shanti's apparation in Dastan-E-Om Shanti Om song but it still blew me away when the real Shanti showed up. Achara is right Sandy isn't really Shanti's reincarnation but just someone who looks like her.

She didn't try to defend herself either earlier when Mukesh tried to attack her with the candelabra. The brilliance in small details man! Phenomenal acting by Deepika!

SRK is always great at playing multiple roles within a single film. In Om Shanti Om, SRK plays three roles actually. One is Om Prakash, second is Om Kapoor and third is Om Kapoor with memories restored. If you notice, all three are distinct personalities and SRK has a different body language for each of them. Jawan will be such a treat.

An Anecdote: So Arjun Rampal, the Mike guy, once boarded a plane sometime after the movie became a huge hit. A kid saw him, got scared and started crying immensely. The kid said that Mike is here and he's gonna burn the plane. The situation became out of control and the Air plane staff asked Arjun Rampal to leave the plane.And he had to. P.S. I heard this one the Kapil Sharma show. Not making any stuff.

Reason why this movie back in 2008 went viral in india and got so much love and attention is because. This movie is a story of shanti and om but entire movie was a parody of 80s and 90s movies. Also there was this actress name Divya bharti, who kinda did similar thing, she married sajid nadyawala (producer/director) when she was under 18 and then 2 years later she 'officially' married sajid again. And later on she died from falling off her apartment balcony. But there were so many conspiracy theories were spread about her death. Saying it was murder or it was Suic*de. So shanti story somewhat may be inspired from Divya bharti. This movie from the beginning to the end had so many references, like a poor guy sitting on the footpath and admiring big banglows that was so 80s thing. Or fighting a stuffed live side tiger in movie. Everyone would believe 🤣 back then that it's a real tiger. Actresses having some romanticism with director or producer was so common in 80s time. I wish I could sit next to u guys and explain every single detail. You just were barely able to catch 5% of it.

I can say that Before Quentin Tarantino's Once upon a time in Hollywood... There was Farah Khan's Om Shaanti Om! 😌😌😌

Sandy isn't Shanti's reincarnation. There's 2 Oms and 1 Shanti. That said, I love the regression Om Kapoor has to Om Prakash once he realises it's Shanti. The music reaffirms their initial position, of Shanti being Om's object of desire. He never gets her, like the Lacanian object subject relation goes, no matter how big a jump he makes in his own status. He waves goodbye as she runs away, not turning back, and I like to see this as him finally letting go. Om never mattered to Shanti, Om wasn't important to her in lifetime at all.

Om Shanti Om is one of the most meta film of Bollywood. The more I've watched and become aware of cinema in general, the more I've grown to admire it. It's full of references, canon events and characters. The kid who heard dosti me no sorry no thankyou, wrote that line down. He was named Sooraj, as in Sooraj Barjatya. There are numerous other references that makes it so meta, so aware. It's like Community. Well maybe not but, you'll see the resemblance.

Om Shanti Om is a really popular film on letterboxd especially among non-Indians. So many reviews from foreigners, it's amazing. More people need to see the sheer cinematic artistry involved in Om Shanti Om just as they appreciated RRR so much.

Sandy was not the reincarnation just a look alike. If she would've been the reincarnation she would also have the memories of shanti but she didn't.

I really think SRK is the greatest actor that India has ever produced because I belong to South Indian and I don't know a word in hindi during my childhood days but SRK has a magic that even kids can understand his emotions without knowing the language and TBH I saw other actors in the same age but neither I could understand the Hindi nor their acting. But because of SRK I started to understand Hindi now even after becoming a grown up and an avid Bollywood film lover. I still think there is no one who can act like him. In veer-zara as an old man the way he shivered his hands and the voice he changed to a weak old man's voice is flawless. In Om Shanti Om the difference he brought to 2 characters like a humble loving sensitive Om the aspiring actor, and cool stylish easy-breezy and little impatient Om the superstar is so amazing. Even though I didn't like Devdas for one reason as he keeps saying Chandramukhi "mai yahape aata hoon ki thume bardash karsako" many-a-times than the original but his performance was spectacular. I also think he is a versatile actor he did out and out comedy in Chennai Express and villain in Baazigar and Autistic in My Name Is Khan as a serious and strict coach in Chak de India and psychologist in dear zindagi and army officer in Mai hoon na, nasa engineering in swades he is not just great only as Romantic actor I think few PPL try to take away stardom and good name from him as an incredible actor.

The background score when Shantipriya runs up the stairs and disappears into nothingness is so hauntingly beautiful 😢❤

For me the best thing in the film is humour & music. Best thing about these kind of films is that you can watch it on repeat and you never get bored. Especially the first half of the film is hilarious. It's really well written and shahrukh's self depricating humour made this even better. He's the actor who can make fun of himself and his stardom.

I really like this movie. It was great to see you both really enjoy it. In the first part with the opening song 'bolo om shanti om' with Rishi Kapoor' Archara was so right about it being famous. It was from an older movie 'Karz' starring Rishi Kapoor who is reincarnated which is great. The real clips in the first song with Rishi Kapoor were from the movie where the Experiment about Reincarnation with different face was failed miserably in 1980 movie Karz. Audience back then was not so open to relate with reality. It was such a good concept.

One of the biggest strengths of OSO is music by Vishal-Shekhar ❤ The album was a block buster and the songs are an all time favourite!! 'Dastaan-e-Om shanti Om' is the most underrated song of the album. The song covers the whole plot!! Genius lyrics, Shaan's voice 😍 Great choreography!! I also love seeing end credits in Farah Khan's movies mention the whole cast and crew in including the technicians, makeup artists, juniors etc ! :)

Others may have mentioned this before, but this storyline is similar to an older movie starring Rishi Kapoor (the "shiny shirt" song at the very beginning) called 'Karz'. The CGI in the earlier portions was quite good with them "recreating" actors from yesteryears. And it was amazing to watch all the other guest stars. All in all, this was a fun watch. This movie was almost modernized version of the movie MADHUMATI starred Dilip kumar ji, Pran ji and Vyjayanthi mala ji .. Majority of the story line remain same of death and reincarnation.. The last bit of story of using duplicate shanti to confession and Ghost Shanti as it is how it happens in that movie.. Few more thing common in both movies were amazing acting and songs that still reverberates.

You know, this movie has a funny plot hole or call it plot for no reason. They had all the video evidence at the end to prove Mukesh guilty, still the director of this movie, Farah Khan choose to bring the ghost of Shanti to kill Mukesh. The aftermath is not shown, but in eyes of public and law, Om becomes the "sus" person in Mukesh's accidental death. Even the video proof will speak against Om now (Om shooting a bullet at Mukesh's leg).

Last scene is so emotional 💔 it gets me everytime

What I don’t see mentioned in these comments were the Singin’ in the Rain references. I think the director wanted to reference it since she was referring to earlier Indian cinema. I know there were other movie references but I was so surprised to actually recognize something I knew from Western cinema. Love this movie, man. It’s got everything.

Now that you have watched this movie, you should also watch a classic Bollywood movie called 'Karz' (1980) starring late Rishi Kapoor (Ranbir Kapoor's father) which also deals with reincarnation, murder and revenge. Om Shanti Om is basically an homage to that movie and borrows its story narrative style too.
