Huge OMDS fan here, but their adhesion to the outdated usb-micro has put me off in considering a lot of their devices. Case in point, I'm in the market for a compact field recorder to couple with my camera, and LSP5 ticks MANY boxes - yet the dealbreaker is the outdated USB micro. Such a seemingly minor thorn that gets inconvenient real quick in actual use. But otherwise, OMDS has been killing it lately - OM-1 looks to be killer and the weather sealed 20mm lens is superb. Desperately hoping that they update to USB-C for the EM-5 series replacement.

@@kentique Using micro-USB is not just stupid from a technical point of view! It's stupid from a strategic point of view! A small detail that gives the impression of delay and sloppiness! It gives us the impression that the new OM System does not develop ABSOLUTELY ANYTHING, and that what is released is what has been designed for years by Olympus! I imagine that there is not even someone from OM System to listen to these feedbacks! Here in Germany the customer service is down, even for those who have the Elite package of services. There is no longer an active Hotline and the service has gotten a lot worse! I sincerely hope that everything is just a period of adjustments, and not a "spawn" of the leftovers of projects and products from the Olympus Era! OM System, are you listening?? wake up!! Stop making those stupid little decisions!!! MicroUSB was just stupid!!

@@TITAOSTEIN Thank you for your response. For me, the usb-micro issue chips away against OM's core proposition of rugged portability. Sure, using usb-micro may shave some thickness and cost, but because of that I also need to pack legacy adapters and cables just for this and hope they don't malfunction or get lost where a replacement may not be readily available. With usb-c cables I just pack a few and if one goes bad, I have backups - and it connects all of my other devices interchangeably. I know this seems minor but many professionals I know work hard to minimize components that can go wrong, fret about backups and plan for contingencies in case of equipment failure, especially for travel work.

@@user-kl6yh1ip9v There is only a 3 gram difference between LS-P5 and LS-P4 as a result of an additional AAA battery. As the LS-P5 features both wireless Headphone Monitoring and Smartphone Control we implemented two batteries to ensure longer recording use with Bluetooth enabled.

Why did they remove the voice guide?

I’ve read the whole manual now and look through all the menus and the voice guy doesn’t seem to be there. Why isn’t there? Do you know anything please let me know because I’m blind too and it’s very frustrating.

i also check the lsp5 manual, and apparently the accessibility features has bin remooved. the last voice recorder that feature the voice guidance is the lsp4 and dm720. sux that the voice guidance has bin remooved,

@@audiosynthhd yes, Olympus was my favourite brand for audio recorders, exactly for this reason... I thought OM System would have the courtesy to implement the voice guidance in this new LS-P5, as all the work as been done by Olympus allready... But no, and it's a shame !!!

@@OMSYSTEMCameras ...That is a major, major disappointment, and truthfully, the voice guidance is the only reason I'd ever buy any Olympus product over its Zoom equivalent (Zoom sounds better). Why was it removed?

The cut off frequency for the low cut filter is 300Hz. This is the same as the LS-P4

@@OMSYSTEMaudio That's quite high - more I guess for vocal recording than music recording. Is it implemented in the analogue domain before analogue to digital conversion, or as a digital filter?

The LS-P5 does indeed have a Timer Recording Function (Timer Rec in Menu) You can set the start and stop time in hours and minutes. The battery life, fully charged, is up to 37 hours when recording with the included AAA batteries.
