Every man who took part is such a hero to me. Thank you, I'm going to Omaha Beach on 01/04/2016 with my 2 boys (Age 9 and 14), this will be my 2nd visit and I'm going back again in November (every year I will return to pay my respects). I always have a beer and tip a beer on the beach for those who were so young not to even enjoy a full life but I appreciate so much the chance I have been given in my life through everyone's heroism. Brilliant documentary, this should be compulsory learning in schools. Thank you all. I wish I could meet just one of you to shake you by the hand, amazing people.

Has a kid I grew up listening to a lot of what I thought at the time "old men tell the stories about D-Day, my mother would always tell them do not scare the boy but I would hang on every word. To this day is still raises the hair on the back of my neck thinking about what they said they went through. They described it as hell on Earth and all were scared to death at the time. But every one of them would always say they would do it again if they had to. I never could understand that, with age I understand. These guys are legends and heroes. soldiers of War have the hardest job known to man and do it willingly. God bless them

Thats the key! He was in serios hard action i think. They (also in germany) dont speak about this time. And those men dont let them told hero. Often old mouth heros weare with uniforms speak so much from this time. I think its a problem of the US press.

My dad was in the I&R , 16 infantry Ist Division. He landed at easy red! My mom did not see him for 2/12 yrs.! He fought in North Africa, Sicily, D-Day, battle the bulge, and on through Germany. he talked very little of that day. When we watched saving Private Ryan, all he did was cry in the beginning of the movie.

My Dad was there. I heard him talk to my uncles and some of his friends when they would start talking about their WWII experiences. He didn't talk to me about those things until he realized my draft number for Vietnam was 4. I ended up not going, but I think he realized I was grown up at that point and once in a while when we were alone He would tell me about everything from Omaha Beach to him being the radio man with the Jeep and how he was with the tank division and how they chased the Germans across France and across the Rhine River. These were men from a different era.

Truly great men. However, the top brass that planned D-Day and sat back and watched this slaughter of young men should have been made accountable and punished. This was a huge military failure due to ridiculous planning, albeit it was enough to turn the tables on the enemy. Some basic rules of warfare going back thousands of years are: Never take a lower position and fight from lower ground, Never go where your enemy will expect you to go. The failure of the military brass to adhere to these two basic rules of warfare is why it was a bloodbath. RIP to the lost warriors and much respect to the men that survived.

Fortunately the Germans had expended a lot of men and resources at the Russian front. Had Germany been able to field its entire army, no way could we have made it through the beaches on Normandy. The Germans only had about 7500 men to defend Omaha beach. The true horror was the Marine landing at Iwo Jima where 7,000 Marines lost their lives

A horrible situation during D-day. May they rest in peace. But the real battlefield and the hardest battles were on the eastern front. Just compare the number killed on the west and east fronts. More than a million soldiers, perhaps three, four million soldiers remain on the battlefields on the Eastern Front. Russians Germans, Belarusians, Poles. Fathers and sons who never came home, and whose families never got to know what happened to them. Every year soldiers are dug out of the mud to get one last rest in a Christian grave. God save their souls ..
