I lived in Oman in 1981-1984, What struck me then, was the freedom of women there, in that time. I appreciate that Sultan Qaboos developed the country so well, without it getting too Western. It is one of the most beautiful countries in the world, with very friendly people. I would love to come back, one day!

Except if you should get entangled in that brutal savage backward so called islamic justice system that will leave you like the academic Mr Hodges, pleading guilty to crimes you did not commit because of the inhumane treatment, recently given a life sentence for asking questions. And almost 400 illegal migrants arrested and deported? Shocking, the double standards, Oman is where the devil resides. It looks pretty now but it never did before when slavery was its main source of income.

I have been to the UAE 11 times and Oman once, the UAE has wasted money despite seeming amazing the buildings towering the skies in Abu Dhabi and Dubai but it has destroyed its culture but Oman on the other hand has preserved its history and it is so great, don’t go to the UAE go to Oman it’s different exciting and an adventure. And also don’t be put off by the conflict in Yemen it has no relevance to Oman’s safety.

Im filipino, i previously worked in Dubai UAE, (199-2009) ive been to Muscat once, Qassab once and Al Buraimi once when i needed to change my visa sometimes in early 2000s. Before Oman was not too developed as per my impression. But Im really amazed how Oman has changed since then..I am Visual Artist and Cartoonist Animator by profession..Kinda thinking of moving here in Oman in the future..I would love to paint sceneries, study the culture and create some interesting animation based on the culture later on.. I wish to meet an Omani who is passionate in my field..I wish to visit Oman one day...its beautiful and quiet country right at the strait of Hormuz in Persian (Arabian) Gulf...MAMARAG - Filipino Artist

How Oman has changed... I lived there for 4 years, starting in September 2003 living in Ibra..... My how it has grown! I was fortunate enough to have lived in Sur and Nizwa also, and, should you ever go there, you must go to the Sur suq... Enchanting.... I don't know how much it has changed since 2007 but knowing Oman, hopefully Sur is still charming

I was in the British army posted to "land forces Gulf" I was often in Oman ,just after the old Sultan was removed and his son replaced him. A lot of rebel conflict, supported by Yemen and Communist states. The people supported their new Sultan and a great democracy grew up.

I have a question about Oman's political system: Does the Sultan (head of state) always jointly serve as Prime Minister (head of government), or does he have an option to choose someone else to serve as Prime Minister if he chooses to?

Oman was never a colony of Great Britain, however, there was a series of treaties between the two countries that gave Great Britain a lot of influence in Oman to the point it could exclude other nations from trading there. In 1970 the present Sultan Qaboos overthrew his father in a nearly bloodless coup and he transformed the country into what it is today.

+yoshee87 What? I did not get you. as per statistics 80% of Omani own a house, at least 1 car and traveled outside of Oman. Oman is not a poor country and Omani people are not poor. Hotel rates in Oman starts from 20$ to 1000$ i'm sure they can afford it and some tips on top. My first comment was for this video to show some corners that are modern like in Muscat which more then 70% of population live and work and have entertainment. if having a house a car, latest communication and entertainment avenues and marred with kids and traveling poor to you... you must be a billionaire :) welcome to Oman. If you did not visit Oman, Please do and judge yourself.
