Performing a leak test of my marine water manifolds.

A small crack in exh. manifold between exhaust and water jacket may only leak at temperature with sufficient water pressure. The crack may seal otherwise. Without the extreme temerature differences acting on the metal. This one has got me before. Magnaflux it. Also, is there rust anywhere in exhaust side? Good chance there will be if cracked or riser gaskets leaking. Hydrolock much?

I have a 5.o mercruise oil in water no oil in exhaust leaking oil and water leak drop to bottom of boat and out drain hole motor will run fine

I think you could use some food colour and water and make a cover and gasket and pressurize to a few psi ,but I would clean first with diluted muratic acid but only if it’s cast iron or steel if any aluminium don’t it will eat it up .

use 10 x 1 muriatic acid and water mix to clean out rust.

why not just use water to leak test? pressurizing a combustible fluid is never a great idea.

The acetone is far thinner than water...it will find the crack without pressurizing it.

@@MrJWTuley thanks for explaining why guys use the acetone...big help there..i filled my rizer elbow and main manifold with water and no leaks. i even heated the exh. holes with a torch little bit, but still water levels stayed the same... and i saw no leaks inside ex. ports...i also put fine dry cloth in and no moisture on it.. now i will try the acetone...without the torch of course
