Last week I went to see a local Omega AD. I had never set foot inside their store and had no prior contact with any of their staff. Not only were they super-friendly but they also plunked 6 or 7 versions of the Aqua Terra in front of me (they didn't have the colourway I'm interested in in stock) plus the Seamaster 300 plus a Breitling Superocean Heritage I had mentioned in passing. They also confirmed that I could've bought all the watches I wanted that very day (funny how I'm even mentioning that as something extraordinary) and that they would be willing to talk discounts for all models I had shown an interest in. I can't help but wonder how things would've turned out had I gone to a Rolex AD, signalling interest in a stainless steel sports-watch. For that reason alone, I'm pretty sure my first "real" luxury watch will be an Omega. Plus I really liked the look of the Aqua Terra and of that retro Seamaster.

Great one Bruce and I agree with you. I’m a Rolex fan but also enjoy other brands as well. I don’t get any of the hate either side gives.

Personally I love the hands on the PO, whereas the Rolex Mercedes does nothing for me. I'd rather have the PO, and given the choice for a Rolex it would be a Milgauss.

Having owned both brands I completely disagree with the claim that Rolex is finer or better built watch. "Nicer" could be matter of opinion, but just case finishing on any comparable Omega model is pretty much superior to the Sub. Just look at that chamfers and fine contrast between brushed and polished surfaces. I even like the Omega bracelets more, but that's just it - I "like" them more, but don't find them "nicer" per sē. Having said that, these two are not the best watches to compare, because Hulk is one of the most desirable Rolex models (not without a reason, the piece is a stunner), while this PO leaves much to be desired when it comes to color combination. For me, Omega vs Rolex is just like Audi vs Mercedes comparison - both brands are EQUALLY fine and prestigious, one is slighter more expensive and established, but at the end of the day - Japanese guys will wipe the floor with both of them! Be it Lexus or Grand Seiko, the story is still the same!

If you weat 5 or 6 watches, all your life, you lose nothing. And the recipients are pretty special. I did not get into watches to flip, I absolutely would hate that.

Moral of the story is, buy what you like, but don't push your preferences on others. If you like the status symbol of the Rolex, and that's why you bought it, great. If you like the technical aspects of the Omega, great. Where it gets real annoying is when you trying to flex on why your choice is superior to all others. Just enjoy what you have.

Love the planet ocean, promising myself one in a year or two or when funds permit, I’ve not actually tried one on yet, but I hope on my 7.25” wrist it will wear well and not too tall. Convinced I’d buy the blue dial, but having seen this white/orange version for a while now I think my preference is changing. Great video Bruce! Just subbed too 👍🏽

Completely well spoken. I love my Globemaster, but was also stoked when I was allocated an Explorer II at the dealer. Here in Singapore, Rolex definitely has more traction and recognition than any other brand. However, at the end of the day, appreciate your pieces the way you want to and converse with the people that can appreciate (they may not always agree) why you enjoy them!

Hey Bruce two great watches,,,I agree the omega is better bang per buck..I’m an unashamed omega fan I’ve had a couple of seamasters now I’ve got a planet ocean ...but I have to agree Rolex do make beautiful watches .but what also. Is true is that they are largely over priced,,but hey if people are willing to pay for the name ,then why not ..they have always been well marketed ,,and any hard core watch collection needs a Rolex ,it’s just a fact ..ps love the colour of this omega,,

I love both of them. I have a Submariner black dail stainless bracelet, a B&M Classima gold, white dial, a Longines Dolcevita stainless band. and a B&M Clifton Baumatic stainless band with black dial. .I think that my two final goals are a JLC Reverso rose gold and an Omega Globemaster blue dial. I’m 59 and think I could live out the rest of my life with those staples and just buying some fun watches as fill ins.

Both awesome diver's but I em a little biased since I own a first gen 2500 Planet Ocean 42mm and absolutely love it.

At the end of last year, we reached a financial goal that we had agreed would allow me to buy a Submariner, which would be my last watch for a while. When the time came to pull the trigger, I just could not bring myself to pay over retail for a used Submariner or to get on a waiting list at an AD and wait for who knows how long. Instead I bought the gray dial Seamaster Diver 300M on bracelet in stock at 25% off retail, and I reserved the right to make another watch purchase at an undecided future date. The Seamaster is a fantastic watch, with great quality and accuracy. It's great looking and probably fits better into my life right now than a Submariner. The coaxial movement is significant in the horological sense. I don't feel like I sacrificed in any way buying Omega instead of Rolex. In fact, it really feels like I made the smart choice.

Omega & Rolex make wonderful tool watches. Both have different designs & both are worthy of consideration. Buy what you love.

Bruce I have both the Sub no date and the PO. Love both brands but my go to watch is the Omega PO as it's a tool watch. The Satin finish bracelet and the fact I don't have to baby it makes it more wearable to me. Also the technology is far above Rolex. It's a simple choice for me. My Rolexe's are basically banks that I like the look of until Iam bored, and then I trade them in. I would never do that to my PO though..

I own both brands, not these particular models but I enjoy both equally. The rolex does spend more time off wrist than the omega. The thing I really like about rolex is that they are way over built, inside and out. The build quality is superb.

Both good watches , but my problem is with the hulks ceramic bezel (the green is not deep enough ) but the dial WOW GREEN. The omega orange is spot on . Personally Omega does better with ceramic (and im a Rolex guy). Omegas only weakness is probably the clasp design.

That green Rolex is amazing. Got the planet ocean and don’t feel sub par in into way. Hoping to buy one eventually

I might be in the minority, but I reckon the Hulk is the worst of the Submariners, and find them quite a dull design, which besides the crazy price difference is why I bought a PO, it’s much more interesting to look at, and the value is spot on

Great video Bruce,big fan of your channel.Hulk is my grail 3 hand watch,but it is too expensive for what you get and you have to wait for it.Also,the green box is like a Chinese watch brand made it.In this case,I would go for the Seamaster 2018 model,but with the blue dial.I think that SM is a better watch for the money,because Omega did a killer job with it.It has ceramic dial and bezel insert,Omega Metas caliber and the other details are nice to,especialy with the bracelet.The presentation box is really a wooden box,not some cheap looking one with a piece of leather.To finish this long comment,sorry for that,the Omega is a winner for me,because it is to close to Rolex for much less and you can take it right away.Cheers

Rolex is a status symbol; Omega is a premium watch.

So I absolutely love watches and before I share my opinion I have to say I currently own a Planet Ocean and don’t own a Rolex. Ok so here we go for my opinion- They are both fantastic time pieces! I would like to own a Rolex and that brings up the only negative that I think truly matters, you can’t just buy a Rolex! Rolex is the only product I can think of that literally treats their customers like garbage and still is successful! I think they make quality watches and you may find something about the Rolex that is nicer than the Omega but you can also find something about the Omega that is nicer than the Rolex. But what really matters you can walk into a Omega AD and most likely walk out with the watch you want and if you can’t they will get you one pretty quickly. Rolex could careless whether you get what you want or if you ever get it because they will still have customers, if you never come back that is okay with them and that is exactly how they treat you. I still like their products but it really is a bummer how they treat their customers and this environment they have created, but that environment is 100% completely our fault, yes us the consumer allow them to treat us like garbage and it is all because of our egos and human nature, we want what we can’t have and that is really stupid! Myself personally I think the Omega is every bit as good as the Rolex when it comes to quality fit and finish and the whole resale value and 2nd hand market or the gray market well that’s just our fault and not because the watch is any better! My three favourites are Omega, Seiko, Oris. They’re what I recommend to others, Rolex doesn’t even really get a mention. That said, I’m currently wearing my Explorer II which nobody will ever pry off my wrist...

I 'only' own two watches: A G-Shock for sports and action an a 41mm SMPc for the office and daily. That's all I need. In my opinion the 210.30.42.20.06.001 is the only high class watch you 'need' for your everyday timepiece to enjoy . Good quality and a lot of technique and a respected brand in the watch game. Good review and camerawork. I am a firm believer in going with what you personally feel good with. IMO there is no such thing as value with mechanical watches. Also there are much better investments. Get what you like for your own reasons.

Can t really afford any of them. And honestly believe that there are already fantastic watches in the 1500 to 3000 dollar segment.

I also have both (PO gmt & hulk) and it is impossible for me to think which is better, the only thing that makes a difference is the resale value.

Paid $5200 for my P.O. at an AD. I wanted a highend watch that I could use as a daily. I could not bring myself to wear that Rolex every day. Saving for a Glashutte Original for a grail watch now.

Omega is a hardcore tool watch, at the same time a high quality luxury piece. Maybe bigger but what are we expecting from a high end let’s saying do it all watch. I like the PO on my expeditions and cocktail party’s.. Always prepared for the game.

I used to be anti-Rolex. My favorite watch for the longest time (a good 6 or 7 years) was an Omega PO with the older caliber 2500. As I got older, my taste got older too. I started appreciating the designs of Rolex and did a lot of reading online about the brand. The anti-Rolex in me just went away. I still have a soft spot for Omega and I'll make sure I get another Omega in the future (probably the Moonwatch). The younger me would always go with Omega. Now in my late 30s, I tend to lean towards Rolex. I follow one simple rule... Buy what you want (& what you can afford). At the end of the day, you have to like and enjoy what you are wearing on your wrist no matter what brand it is or what price point it's at. Cheers!

I own two planet oceans one 45.5mm 8500 on the rubber strap with the deployment clasp and the newer 43.5 mm 8900 on the stainless bracelet I love both of them. I do love the sub but I could never own because I would get sick of being asked “is that a real Rolex”

As someone who has both. There is just something about the finishing of a rolex that beats omega. But on the inside omega beats rolex. Depends on your OCD to which is best. Rolex are way over priced but my OCD loves the finish 😂

Check out the Oris Aquis in green, in my opinion a great alternative to the Hulk: 1600€ retail, ceramic bezel, precise movement and original design

I'm also an unashamed Rolex fan boy. I don't hate omega but given the choice between an omega or comparative Rolex then I'm going for the Rolex . Would I ever buy or wear a Omega . I would without any doubt. They make some beautiful watches . Most people who buy Rolex don't seem to hate on other brands, the way they hate on Rolex .So the only thing I can say , is buy what watch you want . Don't compare your watch with other brands .

I wouldn't pick either of them. The PO is a bit too bulky for me, so I prefer the Diver 300, and if you want a 'real' Submariner, it has no date. 😉

I'm really falling in love with Omega, and I have the exact same feelings about Rolex right now. Omega really makes some better watches than Rolex. I'm in the process of selling my 3 Tudors to buy my one watch, Omega Aqua Terra with the green dial you reviewed a few days ago!

No other watch can beat yr silver dial Omega. The red bezel Omega is the better Rolex, though the colour is personal preference. My personal focus is mainly on accuracy. A comparison btw Rolex n Omega for lets say a fortnight, daily wear wud be it. My guess is that Rolex with the lesser modern movement might be slightly more accurate than Omega. I’m a bang for buck guy so I’m more drawn to Omega. I think you get way more for your money. I do like Rolex but not worth the premium. There’s so many other great watches out there to enjoy! I don’t care so much about resale value as I get watches that I want to experience and keep after considerable time researching and making sure I want them. I’m also not interested in having the same collection that you see over and over again. Buy what you like and enjoy.

Both excellent and i think perhaps the Rolex is overall slightly better . However if I were to take the journey again I don’t think I would have Rolex in my collection. I just don’t think they warrant the price difference. Moreover I don’t agree with this view that Rolex always make money . We have to remember three short years ago a 6 month old sub could be had for 30% under list comfortably.and this was just the norm . Remember Archie shouting never buy new let others take the hit . Could these days return ? Of course they could ...Perhaps sticking with omega much lower outlay and with good discounts if you do have to sell then the loss won’t be too much ..

I hate this thought process. As you said the first way of thinking. Not every Rolex owner buys to stunt, or flash, or show off. Rolex DOES in fact make great watch . There are those who truly want a Rolex for all the qualities that it has. Of course history and tradition adds to all of that. I don’t own one yet, but I will and it’ll be for the right reasons. I also like the Omega as well. Me personally, I don’t care about comparing to see which is better. I like many brands and I like variety. How could one not like it? Now yes, the outside part of Rolex ( the sales, the snobs, the wait lists, the secondary market ) isn’t Rolex fault.

4:08 technically you should be getting double the satisfaction from your Rolexes since they're twice the price 😅 I own this exact Planet Ocean and the white dial Seamaster. I bought them BOTH for what I would have paid for that Submariner. No brainer for me 🤷‍♂️

I also have both brands I don't have a sub bot seadweller and skydweller, both in 2 tonesI had the chance to get them at the retail price, but to be honest I always wear my Omega. With this black market I alway say Omega is making time peaces and Rolex makes speculation tools. You buy an Omega to wear it you buy a Rolex to sell it later and make profit, also Omega has a much more versatility and you can get more complications too technically they are better then Rolex. Another point that almost nobody talk about you can go out with an Omega without the fear to be attack to be robbed.

Regarding the wooden presentation boxes: that represents money that we wasn’t applied to the watch. The Omega box is nice, but we all use a watchbox while the original purchase box gathers dust in the closet. In my opinion, Rolex does it right by not wasting your money on a box you will barely look at anyway.

I’m not an omega fan but no one can argue the fact that George Daniels creates a masterpiece that now resides in Omega - and for that reason its a cool piece . Rolex are too over priced even at retail

I've had the pleasure of owning a Rolex submariner since 1968 when you could buy them for around $240 USD.At the time I purchased it , I was in the navy , overseas and had been issued a Tudor submariner. At that time , I didn't realize what an excellent watch that it was . On my second tour overseas I was issued a Benrus type 1 diver . Fortunately, I still have all 3 watches today . It was those watches that got me started on a life long passion for collecting. I have everything from grail high dollar peices to $300 Seiko's and quite frankly, I enjoy them all . The last 10 yrs or so I've particularly been interested in the micro brand craze . I've seen so many beautiful offerings, but have also spent many hours weeding out the true watch lovers from the carpetbaggers. It's been fun tho. I just feel like , no matter the cost , if the peice speaks to you then it's probably worth a look . It's just really great to see such an on going resurgence in mechanical movement horology. If you are satisfied with what's on your wrist, that's all that really matters.

It’s not a Coke vs Pepsi thing...pardon the GMT pun...lol....I own both, and can appreciate each for the given characteristics. But, a Seamaster isn’t a competitor for an Air King, so one of each makes sense. Depends on personal tastes, collection, budget, etc.

I have to agree with Vukota, below. I own both brands and I can tell you without a doubt, Rolex is NOT better, in looks and/or quality. In fact, the Omega bracelet is nicer in my opinion. Secondly, the Omega feels more sturdy and just plain has a better look to it.

Once I tried the Hulk, the PO and the Tudor 58...Have to say that the Rolex feels like a toy, the PO is great but too "tall" and, in the end, the Tudor is the best... Also Pelagos is great, but there isn't a steel version, that would be a killer!
