I made one of my lifelong dreams come true with the purchase of my first Omega, the timeless and classic Seamaster Professional 300M Co-Axial. Watch the unboxing and hear about what a great experience I had at the Omega boutique.

I have the exact same watch. I bought mine 2 years ago, and yet I still catch myself staring at it admiring the dial pretty much daily. Also agreed with the boutique visit opinion. The entire purchase was a memorable experience in itself, and well worth the travel up there. When you're making such a substantial purchase, there's more to the day than the watch itself. I still think this is the most aesthetically pleasing diver watch I've ever seen.

In my opinion this is the best looking Seamaster reference. like it even more than the new model. Specificly in black! the blue looks nothing like the black one, even though i prefer blue watches always. This is the best looking black faced watch out there.

master G I totally agree! And I’m exactly the same way I usually go for blue because I wear a ton of blue but the black was a no brainer here it’s so much more timeless!

Hi there! I want to clear up something that’s come up in these comments. I completely agree with everyone here who says that grey market is just as good as AD and the Boutiques. And it is absolutely true that you can get a much better deal pre-loved, grey-market, and even at AD’s. If you DO choose to go grey market, just do your homework on the seller from whom your buying. HOWEVER, this being my first high end watch, the money and price was less of an issue than ensuring that I got a brand new product from a boutique. That’s not to say that the money wasn’t important because it’s easily one of the most expensive things I own. But for my first, I wanted it to be really special and I don’t regret it one bit.

Josh James Hi, did you actually get hands on with the new seamaster?? I cant find an AD here in the UK that has any untill october, i felt the same as you about the wave pattern at first, but its grown on me, i need to see it in person to know for sure, be interested on your thoughts.

Edward Allars Hi! Sorry for the delay in my response. I did see it at an Omega boutique when I was traveling! It’s really nice but it’s not for me. The waves on the face are a real dealbreaker no matter how good the movement and the other additional changes. There’s something that’s so much more timeless about this one than the new one. Also, the new one is substantially larger even though there’s only a 1 or 1.5mm difference. The 41mm case width is perfect for me. Anything larger is just too large and heavy on my wrist. It’s a great watch though and if it appeals to you I would definitely not hesitate on purchasing!

I have the exact same one. Except mine I bought five years ago at a authorized dealer store for full price. I'm happy with it and it looks so much better than the new ceramic dial one. The red seamaster text and floating Omega logo and markers. Plus no ugly waves. it's just.... Better.

Nice unboxing. I’m buying mine next week in blue. Originally went to an AD but the discount they offered was almost nothing on the scale of things. I’m pretty set that I’m just gonna buy from the boutique because of the experience, and I need to go there anyway to get the adjustable clasp. I was holding out for the new model, but it’s the current model that I fell in love with and it will still be a fine watch in 30+years anyway. Plus I’m not sold on the new wave pattern, I think the lacquered one is perfect.
@joshswatches6 жыл бұрын
Matt Musial I’m with you 100% on all of the above and I hope you have a wonderful time at the boutique! I really think it’s the way to go. There were a bunch of crappy comments about why I would waste my money on this when the new one just came out. And for me, the wave pattern and the size increase were dealbreakers. Congrats and hope you love it!

Hi josh , watched your review. So glad you like your Omega. I bought new from a AD on Boxing Day a midsize . But found too small so two days ago I bought full size. Tried to size the bracelet myself but should have left to the AD. Took back today and they sorted . Am very pleased with watch . And service.

@joshswatches6 жыл бұрын
Shipmate its a fantastic watch! If you see it for under $4,000 here in the US, do some research into its pedigree to make sure you’re still getting the Omega warranty and not a grey market piece - just because of required servicing in the future.
@shipmate35776 жыл бұрын
Grey Market still provides it with an official Omega certification card and number (same red card you have in your box). You also get a 2-yrs warranty through Assurion, which is a great warranty company... used them before with an item I bought at the Navy Exchange (NEX). You can buy this watch in the grey market for ~$2800 USD.
@joshswatches6 жыл бұрын
Shipmate wow you got a really great price on it! I didn’t mean any judgment or untoward sentiment - I think it’s a great piece regardless of where you got it! Totally fine if you don’t want to answer but could I ask where you purchased yours? A few friends have asked about it but don’t want to pay retail like I did, and are aware of the differences between GM and AD.

Absolutely stunning watch. I'm currently planning on purchasing one within the next few months as a 25 birthday present to myself. I have been saving for about a year. But i just cannot decide between this version or the new 2018 version. I've been to the local AD to try them both on, and i'll have to do that at least another few times i reckon haha. Purely looks wise, aesthetically and size wise i profer this verson. But the new 8800 movement is always tempting me. Congrats on your purchase by the way!
@joshswatches5 жыл бұрын
Alan Giles Congrats! I bought mine just shy of 25 so we’re definitely in the same boat! And like you I had my eye on both - I bought mine after the new one was announced, which as I’m sure you can see in the other comments didn’t make sense to some. But while the movement of the newer one is definitely superior The waves on the face are/were a dealbreaker for me. I just didn’t think it was as timeless and I don’t regret my decision one bit! I’m about a year in (to the day) and am planning to do a 1-year follow up video so stay tuned for that!!!
@alangiles12135 жыл бұрын
Yeah the new waves just arent as nice as the original waves. The real deal breaker for me at the moment though is the new HE valve design. And the size. If i'm totally honest the only thing the keeps me coming back is the new movement which is an insane upgrade. If they done the new one in a smaller, sleeker size. Then i'd be all over it.

The new Seamaster professional is coming out in August .. I just bought this watch today, for a great great deal! I personally am ok with getting this over the newer one but I’m salty about not having a see through case back :/ I love the watch! I just hope I don’t regret it 😥
@joshswatches6 жыл бұрын
I bought mine after seeing the new version from Baselworld. Personally I prefer this one over the new one. I don't like the decorated dial -- that was the dealbreaker for me. I would look down at it every day and be annoyed by it. I'm also not 100% sure but I don''t think the 8800 cal is a direct replacement for this model, this one will slot in below it in price. You could probably sell the one you picked up and invest in the newer one if you do end up regretting your decision, though!
@atthelord6 жыл бұрын
Josh James I completely agree with you! The new SMP at Basel 2018 is so ugly! The dial looks so busy, it almost looks tacky! The watch has gained an mm on the case size, and about the same for thickness . I believe it just wears larger than this model. As far as the cal 8800 is concerned, it’s a beautiful movement, but is it really that much better than the 2500? I don’t know . They’ve crammed in that movement into everything now . The overall improvement is too minor to warrant a serious consideration . But that caseback is something I might still want .. Also thanks for the reassurance ! I feel I have others who agree with me and my purchase was a good one.! What other watches do you have in your collection? I’m looking at getting a Datejust 41, fluted bezel, blue dial, jubilee bracelet next !
@joshswatches6 жыл бұрын
Exactly. I could get onboard with the waves if it was on something like a Tissot diver or a Rado or something else from the Swatch family but not an Omega. I'm personally also more of a fan of the seahorse and waves on this model. And that's a really good point about it wearing larger, I didn't notice that in the press release but at least for me, 42mm is pushing it on my wrist. The 41 in this video is about as big as I can go before it's too large in proportion. And as for the movement, in my life and wear of the watch, I'm NEVER going to see a realistic benefit between the 2500 Chronometer and the 8800 MAAASSSSTEERRRR Chronometer, you know? So I'm perfectly happy with it. Anyone who says otherwise has too much time on their hands to watch how quickly the seconds go by on their watch. This is actually my first high-end watch. I've got a bunch of more affordable watches that I love just as much, but this is the first watch that's in the real "high-end" watch realm. BUT, like you, my next will also be a Datejust 41 with the fluted bezel and jubilee bracelet, I'm on the fence about color, I feel like i can't pull off the silver/gold combo so I'll probably just go with the white gold and I'm really digging the anthracite/titanium grey face. I didn't like it until I went into the Rolex boutique and saw it in person. I also want the Seamaster that the Bond Spectre watch is based on, but I want the vintage model from the sixties. Saw one in great condition on Tourneau's site but it had sold by the time I went back to buy.
@atthelord6 жыл бұрын
Josh James I’ve done some extensive research on getting my first Rolex .. here are a few things that will come in handy- 1) prices are negotiable up to 10% (call it a price reconsideration and not a discount aka fancy wording) for most Rolexes ! Unless your AD is being a pricy prick . 2) Datejust 41 wears like a 40 and has a lug length of 47mm end to end with a 21mm lug width, so if you put it on leather, make sure it’s a high quality Hirsch strap, as it looks beautiful on hand even on smaller wrists . Mine is 6.4 inches . 3) its easier to pull off the rose gold and silver combo as it’s less jarring to the eye and looks far classier than regular gold in real life . 4) I personally prefer batons as they’re more useful as they have lume . It’s worth getting one Rolex with lume, and your first one can definitely be the one ! 5) Silver is like a sunburst white and “rhodium” is a darker silver, which actually looks silver . Ofcourse it’s different if you want a blue like me, but consider the lighter silver as well, if you want a supremely versatile time piece you can wear with leather and a bracelet. If TT then yellow gets champagne and Rose gold gets Matt white 6) Try Try Try! Take millions of pictures , come back again and again to your AD, and don’t settle for anything less than what you dreamt of. No Rolex is a bad buy. It’s a purchase of a lifetime to be passed down, and not flipped ! Make sure it stands out and you’re in love with the piece . It should come at you and tug at your heart strings . I’m not a bond fan. I understand your fascination with the particular one you have in mind though. Have you ever considered a Nomos for a dress watch ? Orion or the Tangente ? Lovely lovely time pieces, perfectly sized, great movements, decently priced for sure !
@joshswatches6 жыл бұрын
Arman Talwar Thanks so much for all the info!!! And TRUST ME, I’ve done the try try try. To the irritation of MANY Rolex SA’s I’m sure. Hahahaha. But yeah that’s been my holy grail watch for as long as I can remember. That’s my “I’ve made it” watch. 😜😜 And yeah absolutely - my plan for the Rolex is to make it a trip to get it in Switzerland. If you buy there in cash you can often get way more than 10% off. I was initially going to do that with this Omega but it wasn’t expensive enough to warrant that. But for the Rolex I want every discount I can get and would love to not pay tax. I’m eyeing a new car in the next few years and will probably do overseas delivery again and it would be amazing if I could line those two purchases up together and have the airfare paid by the automaker. 😜😜 Meanwhile yeah you know I’m not a Bond fan either, which is kind of why I want the vintage version from long before it ever appeared in a Bond movie. The design is classic but I’m not into it when watch makers reissue things. If I’m going to have something vintage-looking why not have the actual vintage.

Nice watch! I visited an Omega boutique recently, and I agree - fantastic experience. That said, for this watch in particular, I personally would not pay full retail, simply because of the vast difference between retail price and what its market value / grey market price is. Even in the unlikely event that a piece purchased from a reputable grey dealer has an issue, the price of a service is still much less than the premium you would pay buying retail. Anyway, I'm going to pick this up pre-owned from a brick and mortar in a couple of weeks. I enjoyed the video! P.S. one difference between AD and boutique is that ADs will often discount. With this watch in particular, I'm fairly certain you could get up to 20% off. One AD offered me 10% and no tax without me even asking about price.
@joshswatches6 жыл бұрын
Usman Hasan I absolutely agree with you. For me, the cost of the item wasn’t an issue. It’s just that this was/is my first true high-end watch and buying from the boutique was special for me because I’ve worked for the high end brands selling watches to put myself through college. So for me it was sort of finally being on the other side of the counter. That being said - as I build my collection there will definitely be vintage, pre-owned, and grey market pieces in my future. I hope you enjoy yours immensely and thanks SOOOO much for taking the time to watch my video and comment, it really does mean so much to me that you did. :)

hey Josh, that's a great looking watch! I have exactly the same one only in blue dial. Purchased it last year and no regrets, amazing timepiece. The box, cards, manuals, pouch came in as freebies. Looking at your video, nice work by the way, you have additional items which I have some queries and hopefully you can reply if your time permits. Any idea where I can acquire the bracelet for this SMP 300m with micro adjustment clasp and NATO strap, I opt for the Grey with blue and some other color combo. Keep up the cool videos and reviews, peace!

Reginald Bejerano Hi Reginald! Thanks so much for writing and watching, I ALWAYS make the time to reply. I just feel like if someone takes the time to watch and write me I owe it to you to reply. In regard to your question, unfortunately I’m afraid I don’t have a great answer. With the exception of the NATO strap, everything that came with the watch is what comes with it new. For the bracelet, you can call the Omega parts department and order a new bracelet. I know they sell replacement parts. You may be able to just get the links you’re looking for. If you bought yours new last year, you might want to go into Omega if you have a boutique near to you and see if they can give them to you, as I don’t think anything has changed from last year to this year. As far as NATOs go, take a look at the video I posted yesterday, I go into detail on NATO straps because a lot of people had questions on them. I like my Omega NATO but I don’t think I’d pay for it. I really like NATO straps from a company called Blu Shark and in the follow up video to this one I compare them side by side. Thanks again!

+Josh James Thanks much for the quick reply, unfortunately the boutique I purchased my Omega SMP is taking sometime with regard to the Micro Adjustment clasp, I ordered from them last Feb. 2018 and till now it's no where near my grasp. Reginald Bejerano Wow I’m sorry that you’re going through that, that’s terrible that it’s been months and no follow up. I would recommend that you contact another boutique. Ashton Kee Just my personal opinion but I think the new one is really nice but the face kills it for me with the wave texture - I actually bought mine after seeing the new one for fear that it may be discontinued, and I’m really happy with it.
