This is a look at the Omega Speedmaster Professional. As one of the classic watches that's still in a reasonable price bracket, how does it stack up in 2017?
I also tell you about when I dropped a Speedy on to a concrete floor, and when I went swimming with one. Plus, there's a section in the video showing footage I shot in the Omega Museum in Bienne, Switzerland.

This watch is a staple of my collection by virtue of what it stands for, going to the moon; not to mention timeless design and function. Thanks for your review. Regards, Jeff.

The sapphire case backed models look nice, but lose the anti-magnetic shield that covers the movement in the metal backed versions (so that you can see the movement). Google Speedmaster antimagnetic for an image of the shield. Thus, the metal backed version with the hesalite crystal is the only true purpose built tool watch, and the only real moon watch to me. Nice video and cool to see the museum shots. Thanks for posting.

Great vid. Saving for one of these right now. A stunning watch. My only concern is the manual wind.

+Andy Carr This is nothing to be concerned about Andy. Wind it every morning and it’ll be as accurate as possible, plus you get to interact with manual wind watches rather than just have them say on your wrist needing no attention like autos 😊

Gr8 watch. So legible. Great lume. Great presence. Not a ponce watch. And it passed the NASA torture test. The cornerstone of any collection. Go used for a third of the price

I agree with everything about the used bit. There's quite often deals to be had new, and with this type of watch, most people will keep them for a long, long time, so it's nice to be the first owner.

Nice timepiece, the speedmaster has a great history, it is also nice that you can interact with the time piece, I do like the manual movement. The prices have increased; however, I still think they are very much competitively priced in comparison to other watches on the market. Did you buy this from an AD? I am going to visit the Omega museum in a few months, such a great history. Thanks for a great review. Great Channel.

Panagiotis Skartsilas ...and the cheaper Seikos are now strictly "built down to a price" ie. the lowest quality they can get away with for a particular set of specs.

Watch Hobbyist I had a FMOM, loved the size at just under 40 mm, but the shiny hands difficult to read, and culled. White hands of classic Moon, black dial, and Hesalite is the winning combination.

I just accidentally dropped my Speedmaster when changing straps, it probably dropped about 2 feet, so not from particularly high and the Chronograph function now doesnt work properly, the start button starts it, but when I press it again to stop it, it resets it rather than stopping it. Lovely watch, but definitely not particularly hardy.
@itsallrobbish

I totally agree with you on the price. It’s an icon that is a true classic, but unlike the Submariner, this has not gone onto to cost silly money. It seems that Omega get their money by flogging special editions for £8000 plus. I have just gotta get one.

I've had two Speedmasters, the Mark 4.5 and the one being reviewed. The Mk 4.5 I gave to a friend as it no longer did it for me, in some ways I regret that but the friend would have got it in the long run. A few years ago I bought the model reviewed but again it just didn't hold any appeal and I sold it on. I guess Omegas are not for me, just a personal opinion.

I did I felt the same with my planet ocean- it kept perfect time and was pretty much perfect... except it bored me so I sold it. I recently got a Seiko Marinemaster and despite its many faults I love it. So I got a Grand Seiko Springdrive and while it’s a pretty much perfect watch I’m not in love with it... it’s a head watch not a heart watch (like the mm300) And now I’m drawn to the speedie though and worried I won’t like it. We are a weird bunch us watch geeks 😁 (or maybe it’s just me)

Ok video. The speaker tends to ramble a bit. There needs to be MUCH more activity. I thought that it was a photo of the watch, at first, because even the small second hand wasn't moving. It wasn't until I saw the reflection of the speaker moving in the crystal, then later his hands, that I realized that this was a live filming.

Enough people bitch and complain about the manual wind movement my friend. Quartz nearly killed the Swiss industry. But maybe it can revive Omega lol. They will sell their mothers for a buck remember. Don't sound so sure when there's money involved. The X-33 is a frigging brick, a monstrosity. Something elegant like the moon watch, redone with another bullshit Omega marketing angle, and we have a winner folks.
@WatchHobbyist
@WatchHobbyist 6 жыл бұрын
+gmshadowtraders If you see forums and the like as a good demographic to judge sales by, you’re very uninformed. They represent a small amount of the buyers of such watches. The x-33 is not a monstrosity at all. TheZ-33 is much larger so you may be thinking of that. However I’ve learn not to argue with such opinionated people. It’s a watch at the end of the day, and it’s not worth getting worked up about.

The speedmaster is cheapened by the fact that there are millions and millions of them made and sold. Go online at any given moment and there are hundreds of them for sale.
@WatchHobbyist

You could say the same about the Submariner, Daytona etc. The Speedmaster holds a great percentage of its value over time, and vintage models can go for HUGE money these days.
