Yoakam is insanely good. Doyle is simultaneously weak, pathetic, terrifying, unpredictable, evil, and legitimately hilarious.

It's criminal that both Dwight and John Ritter were not recognized for their amazing work in this film.
@DarlingNikki2

Agreed! Yoakham nailed that angry-at-the-world sociopathic Doyle and Ritter (may he rest in peace) was so perfect as the caring, concerned gay friend. The entire cast was amazing, even Doyle's friends in this scene and you really came away feeling that these people and their problems were real.

@@andreagamer9146 he probably wouldn't actually hurt them badly other than psychologically. I had one friend in grade school that had an alcoholic father. When I first slept over at his house we came in at 3:30 pm and his dad was asleep. He told me if we woke his dad up he would throw the alarm clock at our heads. Another friend I had, his step dad shot his mother in their kitchen and killed her. So you never can tell. A lot of southern women get tired of it and go off. I know a woman that cooked a big skillet of food to boiling hot. Her husband came in drunk and hit her......she threw the pan of food directly into his face. He never bothered her again....even after he healed.....

This scene shows how good of an actor Dwight Yokum is , you know your a good actor when people hate the role you play in this movie. Dwight should have gotten the academy award for the role he played in sling blade.

I thought Billy was funny as Carl but Dwight really sells this movie. Him and John Ritter are the most memorable part of this movie.

This movie caused me to use the word "hearst" for years, thinking thats how it was pronounced. Then one, day my dad told me how it was really pronounced and asked if i spent all my childhood years and well into my late teens really thinking thats how it was pronounced.
