A young man sees an attractive girl jogging on his street, then plans to 'run into her'.
JOGGERS is used with permission from Ajitpal Babbra. Learn more at ajitpalbabbra.com.
Mark is on his way to work one day when he notices an attractive woman jogging. They exchange friendly glances as they pass one another, so Mark contrives to run into her again on her run, hoping to make a romantic connection. He runs her route behind her, taking care not to approach right away.
But after a few days, they finally connect, and when he invites her inside his apartment for a shake, she accepts. Seems like a promising start to something, but then when two police detectives show up on his doorstep the next day asking about her, he finds himself in the middle of a deeper mystery.
Directed and written by Ajitpal Babbra, this deliciously deceptive short drama-mystery begins in many ways like a contemporary modern romance, with attractive characters, well-appointed neighborhoods and prosperous homes. We meet Mark at his most powerful, wearing a suit coming to or from work and feeling confident about his place in life. When he spots a beautiful woman jogging -- and she returns his look of intrigue and attraction -- audiences, like Mark, are hooked on the possibility of something more happening. Something more does happen in the course of the film, but it's not in the way that Mark expects.
The deft storytelling takes time to set up Mark's careful efforts to meet Anna, from carefully observing her movements and schedule to jogging her route with her without talking. Then, when they finally talk, thanks to a casual ruse, and Mark invites her over, it charts each beat of their interaction, playing both the tentativeness and latent attraction between them. The smart, attentive writing and directing deftly build suspense, and we wonder just what it will all lead to in terms of romance and connection. Actor Lauren Saliu as Anna is attractive and appealing, and equal parts bemused, guileless and intriguing when Mark finally meets her. She's holding back, but she's also clearly interested.
As Mark, actor Sam Lockwood imbues his character with confidence, though hints of a self-satisfied arrogance peek out at times. He's cocksure and focused on his efforts to land Anna, but being slightly full of himself will come back to haunt him in unexpected ways. Mark clearly has an eye for the ladies, but part of the subversive twist in the compellingly intriguing JOGGERS is how such an eye can blind someone to paying more attention to the world and people around them.

I figure it was a police station. Dirty cop in on the robberies to make sure nobody ever figures out the con. I think the real problem is why go through all of this trouble. The girl could've led him on a long jog or taken him for coffee while her friend robbed him and nobody would've suspected a thing. Instead, they went through all of this and he figured it out, so she and the cop are probably getting caught after the credits.
@davidstorrs

Might have been the police station, actually. My assumption was that those were a pair of dirty cops; perhaps they arrested Anna and her partner, then let them slide on condition that the four of them work together. Anna baits the mark in, the two cops get him out of the way, the two women rob him blind then text the two cops saying it's safe to cut the mark loose. Also, I just now realized that the victim's name was Mark. He was the 'mark' of the con. Nice bit of subtle foreshadowing.

I think this video has a great message. We should always get to know strangers in public places or events. This man invited her into his house when he only knew her for what, an hour? The problem with this world is too many dishonest people walking out there; unless you have something life changing, they will not have the patience to put up with multiple public meetups. This is the greatest countermeasure we have.

I don't know if it would ruined the ending but to give it a somewhat more of a plot twist, I thought of a continuation. The guy plans a revenge. He actually kidnaps her. When the actual police come to investigate he easily dodges punishment telling about the previous incident. It would've turned into a thriller horror short, but it would've kinda fit into this theme.
@frankey-h35b3
@frankey-h35b3 4 ай бұрын
@@SimpSanji I thought there were already good twists in it... Starts off as a romance, but next thing you know the girl is missing and he is being suspected, we are worried for her and wonder what he could've done, then we see in fact the major twist is they are thieves who are robbing him. That's pretty good IMO. I would love a continuation of this story actually, I would easily watch a feature film version of it where we see the background to the girls and if the man did anything to get to the bottom of it. But I appreciate this is a short film and only a short story can be told. Here it seems it's more about the man's journey from perving on joggers to learning his lesson.
@frankey-h35b3

@@SimpSanji There already was a good twist though, the romantic prospect who was thought missing was actually a thief who was scamming him. If he wanted his revenge he would have to find her which I think wouldn't be easy and remember this is a short film so you can only tell a shorter story.
