This is how he did it: he went off camera, paused the video, added a bit of liquid into the medium and large cup, resumed it, then topped it up with the small cup. You can see when he lifts the medium cup, there is clearly water vapour left on the table, indicating the liquid has been in the cup for a while, ta-da.

Technically, mcdonald's do these kinds of things. To cut cost, they would raise the bottom of the cup so their people don't need to spent as much money on the soda. So he is somewhat correct on this.
