Wow. I was in college in the 70's and loved John Denver's music. Hearing this tonight just grabbed me-I really needed to hear this. My husband of 45 years has been in the hospital unconscious for over 2 months. He just opened his eyes for the first time this week. I'm going to put this song on my playlist for him and play it tomorrow when I visit and sing "Come let me love you, come love me again..." to him.

Doesn't every woman dream of being loved like this? I saw a documentary about John Denver where Annie (his first wife) spoke about this song, which John wrote after they had a fight. She mentioned that even though their marriage couldn't survive his career, how she felt every time she heard this.

Years back, my husband had the opportunity to respond to a need Annie had at her house in Aspen. My husband was a huge John Denver fan. They talked a short while about John and my husband said she still had so much love in her eyes about him, even though they didn’t get the fairy tail ending. I can’t help but cry every time I hear this song, because I know that at one time, the words were meant with all the heart he sings it with.

I saw John live in Pittsburgh in the 80s and it was the best concert I ever saw as well. That is true for many, I think. That man had what my favorite author calls "The Bardic Gift." No matter the size of the venue, you felt like he was in your living room, singing for you and a few friends. He held the Civic Arena in the palm of his hand. I still cry at many of his songs, and when all's said and sifted, he remains my favorite singer. I also get tears when I think how he would be now, an old man with white hair, still crafting songs and making his magic and doing his good work in the world, if not for a lever in the wrong place in an experimental airplane. At least he went out flying... But dammit, couldn't it have been some decades down the road?

This song was released just a few months after I was born. I was about 8 or 9 years old when I somehow heard it somewhere. Immediately asked my parents for the album! All my friends only listened to modern pop music, but I didn't care. I remember thinking it was one of the most beautiful things I've ever heard. And since I was/am Swedish I didn't even understand most of the lyrics yet. But I could "feel" the lyrics because they shines through!♥️♥️♥️

Yes, it was a beautiful song he wrote to his first wife, Annie. She couldn't have children so they adopted. It is said of Henry John Deutschendorf, Jr., which is John Denver s real name, that he didn't realize how many people really loved him and his music. I cried the day I found out he died. He was on his way in an experimental plane to see his daughter.

I grew up with his music in the 70's, and loved him dearly. Still do. He taught me to revere wildlife and all of nature, and leave the land pristine and wild, for the animals that would come after. It was him and my adventurous brother who were my greatest inspiration in moving to Colorado, where I still play his music with the same feeling you expressed so beautifully. He sang his heart out to us and for that the world is a far better place. This song expresses it perfectly.

One of my favorite of his is Rocky Mountain suite ( cold nights in Canada ). Was never one of his popular songs but showed of his voice beautifully. Calypso was another I loved. It was about the boat Calypso used by Jacques Cousteau in his the ocean documentaries that introduced the world of the oceans to so many people of my generation. Yes, I’m a baby boomer 64, but until he came along we knew nothing of the wonders in the ocean. John Denver was of my generation and loved the documentaries also. Everybody knew the name of the boat was Calypso.

Some of his signature songs were "Take Me Home, Country Roads", "You Fill Up My Senses", "Grandma's Feather Bed", "Fly Away", "Leaving On A Jet Plane", "Poems, Prayers & Promises", "Rocky Mountain High", "Calypso", "Sunshine On My Shoulders" etc. John appeared in several films & television specials during the 70's-80's, including the 1977 hit "Oh, God!", in which he starred alongside George Burns.

@@davidg4595 I remember that, it was Charlie Rich who set the card that announced John Denver's win as Entertainer of the Year on fire during one of country music awards shows back in 1975 or 1976. John Denver played more than country music. Actually, I put John Denver in a category of music all his own. To this day, I still don't understand why he was continually ridiculed and made the brunt of some pretty mean-spirited jokes made by comedians. He wrote his own music, and even sold his songs to other artists, he could sing anything and he had the best yodels. His music has lasted decades and he still has followers decades after he left us. John deserves all of the accolades he receives, and I personally was very sad when he passed, and I miss him greatly.

John's music defies any music category. He began as a folk artist and "Leaving on a Jet Pane" was recorded by Peter, Paul & Mary who had a #1 hit with it. Later "Take me Home Country Roads" was a natural for country music stations. But his other hits were not really "country" and not really "pop"...Rocky Mountain High, Annie's Song, Poems Prayers & Promises, Calypso...outside of any category I can think of.
