One of the things you have to respect about VP is the artistry, not just the singing but they do the majority of their own arranging, video editing, costuming, lighting, etc.. Geoff (Mr. Melty) pronounced Jeff, arranged this piece along with doing the video design and editing and he arranges almost half of their covers. Layne on the far left of the video is their vocal percussionist and does the other half of the arrangements. His voice has the sweetest tone and is such a delight when we get to hear it. If you liked this I recommend Can't Make You Love Me cover they did that was also arranged by Geoff. It has two different singers because J. None (long sleeve white shirt) and Earl (AKA Squiggles, hee hee, in the short sleeve button up) both left but Eli (rhymes with Jelly) in the hat and glasses is still with them and will make you tear up. While I enjoy the technical proficiency of PTX and the fun that Homefree brings, for me they can't beat the emotional weight and journey that VP brings. Can't wait to see what you react to next!

They don't get the publicity they deserve or that some other acapella groups do, but they are wonderful. Don’t ever think that Voiceplay is “underrated!” They CAN and WILL hold their own, and prove you wrong!!!! Every time!! They truly challenge and “one up” themselves with every song they put out. I’d recommend diving very deep into some of their older stuff to show their beginnings on a National level, as well as seeing the progression of new members and featured artists to show their growth!

Jesus, your eyes are gorgeous! Had to say that lol This is why Voiceplay is my favorite. They show their passion for music because they love it, not because they're being paid. Plus the fact all their voices are so angelic.

Fun fact: Home Free and Voiceplay competed on The Sing Off the same year, then toured together. The groups still collaborate on occasion.

One of my favourites. This and True Colours are the two I know that don't include any beatboxing. Instead we hear Layne's beautiful gentle voice. Left to right we have Layne Stein, (usually the beatboxer), then J.None, Eli (say it like elly) Jacobeon, Earl Elkins Jnr, and then bass singer Geoff (Jeff) Castellucci. Their harmonies are always luscious and beautiful.

Yep, that's how these boys do it. There are plenty of a cappella groups out there, but there is just something different about the way VoicePlay approaches their arrangements and performances. Their sound is distinct and original, and they will never, ever bore you. Literally- it is delightful, when you really listen closely to one of their songs, how they never repeat themselves. Sure, they will repeat text from a song, or even a certain vocal motif, but there will always be something- maybe the backing vocals, maybe the rhythm of how a phrase is sung, maybe the position of the voices within the mix- that has been switched up, so that it always keeps your ear interested. They also utilize some amazing chord structures; I don't know enough music theory to identify them, or explain why they are unusual, but those crunchy chords and fascinating dissonances set their sound apart in the best possible way.

The Trifecta of Acapella is Pentatonix, Home Free & Voice Play. All 3 groups shine but each have their own style. Mr Melty is Geoff Castellucci... He just put out his own arrangement of The Sound Of Silence. They are my personal favourites (love PTX & HF), but yeah... VP are my boys

These guys are amazing! I've seen a few of their songs but hadn't heard this one before. Even Elvis himself would shake his head and say "Thank you very much!" to them for doing such a great cover of his song haha! Cheers!

Their lineup has changed somewhat since this was made, but 'Mr. Melty' (Geoff Castellucci) is still an integral part of the group and he also has his own channel for his solo work--his recent cover of Simon and Garfunkel's The Sound of Silence is gorgeous. Also, I can't share any details and they haven't yet given us a release date, but keep an eye on VoicePlay's channel for an upcoming song I bet you will enjoy.

I loved your reaction. It really doesn't get any better than that. If you haven't seen it yet, check out their rendition of Oogie Boogie's Song from the Nightmare Before Christmas. Geoff is the lead (Oogie Boogie) and the other guys sing in character voices. It really is amazing. Prepare to spend a lot of time reacting to VoicePlay... their repertoire is extensive. You're already familiar with Pentatonix and Home Free, both phenomenal groups. There is a fourth group among the elite in a cappella, and that group is Voctave. They are different than the other three in that they are larger and have no beat boxer. If you want a comparison, VoicePlay, Pentatonix and Home Free are the combos and Voctave is the orchestra, each wonderful in their own way. The interesting thing about these groups is that they all know each other. For instance, Kirsten Maldenado from Pentatonix was featured by Voctave in their Disney Love Medley. Avi Kaplan from Pentatonix was featured in Home Free's rendition of Ring of Fire. Lane, the beat boxer in VoicePlay wrote several arrangements for Home Free, including their collaboration with the Oak Ridge Boys on Elvira and their extemely funny Butts Remix. Isn't VoicePlay amazing? They generally do all of the production work themselves - arranging, producing, directing, lighting, sets, costumes. They sometimes have help with the makeup when they're doing one of their really theatrical productions, but I'm guessing on one like this, they probably do that themselves as well. They are one of the oldest a cappella groups around, starting in 1997 - Geoff (Melty guy, the bass, pronounced Jeff), Layne (far left, beatboxer although he just sang in this arrangement), and Earl (big guy with full beard, high tenor) are original members. Eli (rhymes with jelly, bald with glasses, tenor) has been with them since 2010. J. None (baritone) is the newest member in this video. Earl and J. None have both left since then, so there is a new member Cesar that you saw in the first video of theirs you watched. You haven't seen them in one of their more theatrical videos yet - try Hoist the Colors, We Don't Talk About Bruno, The Dragonborn Comes (from the video game Skyrim), or Oogie Boogie's Song (from The Nightmare Before Christmas). BTW - Pentatonix has also done a cover of this song. Theirs is a slightly more "traditional" version, with a single lead singer throughout, but they also do the song as 5-part harmony, and it is absolutely gorgeous!

I love Voiceplay. 2 videos you might like are their "Queen in 5 Minutes" medley or "Boy Bands in 5 Minutes" medley. If you checkout Geoff's solo channel you would likely enjoy his recent cover "The Sound of Silence," and "Blackbird," or "Shenandoah". But whatever you choose you can't go wrong with Voiceplay

This is one of their older videos and contains two members no longer with the group today. Since Earl (bearded guy 2nd from right) left they have been bringing in different people for each song or set of songs. Jay Nun (second from left) left to join the Navy and they brought in Cesar De La Rosa. Cesar has been a phenomenal add to the group. But with him, they are still just four, bringing in a fifth for every song. If you decide you want to stick with them and hear another song that like this does not have Layne (far left) beat boxing, look for their cove of "I Can't Make You Love Me". I will warn you though, set a box of tissues handy before you start.

You really need to get headphones for these guys--you miss so much without them. Suggestion for VoicePlay songs: Nothing Else Matters, Dragonborn, I Can't Make You Love Me, Little Mermaid, Carry On My Wayward Son, Boy Bands and Oogie Boogie. As for Geoff Castellucci's solo channel it's got to be Sound Of Silence, Misty Mountains, Big Bad John, Ain't No Sunshine and Monster Mash. This is a pretty good cross section and all of these were arranged by either Layne (beatboxer) or Geoff.
